Jackie sighed. She was tired of school, exams and family. She needed a break. A getaway. Her mind was rampaging with thoughts and gossip that she had heard. Some bad and some good. She wished she could go on family vacation. To bad she had another month until Christmas holidays. She sat down under a shady tree and gazed out past the lake.

Beth pulled her winter cloak tightly around her as she walk, or rather roamed the grounds. She didn't know why she was even out here. She hated being cold. The wind was always biting and it chilled her to the bone. And yet she still found herself outside near the lake no less, where the wind was the worst. She had pulled up her hood to block the wind from her ears and hair, but it did no good as the hood was blown off every time a gust picked up. So now she had taken to holding her cloak and hood on tight making her left hand freeze while the right was semi-warm in her robes always upon her wand just in case.

She spotted a figure under a tree and cautiously drew nearer. She hoped it wasn't a Slytherin. They had taken to making her uncomfortable in the last few months now that she had shown herself back at Hogwarts. She knew some of them were planning on being death eaters if they weren't already. She was glad to see that it was someone from her own house. She smiled and sat down next to Jackie. It was good to keep in the warmth on her legs as well.

"Hi, Jackie," Beth said hesitantly. She hadn't really talked to her much since she had returned from being...well 'dead.' She wasn't exceptionally close to Jackie but all the Gryffindors had seemed to take the loss of a fellow house mate rather hard. "How are you?"

Jackie noticed a figure walking towards the lake. She ignored it and continued to stare. At, well pretty much nothing. She hummed a little tune in her head. 'Laaa di la di da la la,' she thought. Her head quickly shot up when she heard someone talking. It was Elizabeth. She was a year above her and she knew that she was in Gryffindor like Jackie. Jackie smiled and replied.

'Oh hello,' she said still smiling now looking at Elizabeth, 'I'm fine. Bored, but fine,' Jackie turned back to the lake and looked at a tree while continuing to say.
'What about you?' Jackie picked up a bit of her hair and started to twirl it randomly. Jackie beckoned Elizabeth to sit down. She liked having company. It was nice to talk to someone every once and a while.

Iaa had been sitting in the very tree that fell over Beth's and Jackie's heads right now. When she saw Beth approach she swung down from the tree upsidedown.
"Hey Beth! Hey Jackie! Aren't you guys cold?" Iaa, who was never cold, was feeling a bit chilly so she knew that any person other then herself mus be freezing. She flipped to the ground and sat next to them kicking her feet in the water. Something grabbed at her leg, she guess it was the giant squid.
"Not now!" She whispered to it.

Jackie noticed Iaa come to sit down. Jackie smiled.
'Hey Iaa. It is quite cold when i come to think about it,' she replied. Jackie didn't notice but she had started to get goosebumps. she rubbed her arms to heat them a bit as she didn't have a jacket.
'Hows Jay doing?' she asked. She hadn't seen him in ages.

Jackie picked up a rock and skidded it along the water. It didn't really work. The rock jumped once and sank into the bottom. She tried again. No success. She frowned. Jackie was never really good at skidding rocks.

Beth raised her eyebrows to Jackie's comment on how she was doing. "Bored? Couldn't you be bored somewhere else? It freezing out here. I'd go in myself but..." She stopped herself from saying that she was doing her usual patrol of the grounds to make sure everything was all right. She knew people who didn't know her well would think it odd that she was doing this and doing it often. It was almost like a compulsive obsession.

"I saw you out here so I thought I'd stop by and say hello." What about you? "I'm good. Best as I can be with having to worry about NEWTs and graduation and the real world. You have a few months before that sort of stress comes to you. Everything else is fine though," she half-lied. She had just broken up with her long-time boyfriend, Kal Keleka. So there was that drama, but also that she had left him for Remus Lupin. It was a horrible thing to do, she knew, and she felt terrible about it, but these were the way things were. She hoped people wouldn't judge her actions because they really didn't know the whole story. So she was happy to be with Remus but sad as well to know and understand the consequences of her choices.

Beth jumped when Iaa appeared out of nowhere. She had to stifle the urge to draw her wand and hex her, not because she was mean-spirited, but because the 5th year had startled her so. "Hello, Iaa. Yes, I was just telling Jackie that I'm freezing and perhaps we should all go inside to warm ourselves by the Gyffindor CR fire."

The 7th year girl allowed her mind to wander as the younger girls began to talk about someone named Jay. She didn't have a clue as to who that was so she stayed silent until her attention was grabbed by the squid taking hold of Iaa's leg. She drew her wand and sent a harmless spell in the tentacles' direction. She didn't want to her either Iaa or the squid. "Perhaps dangling your feet in the water, teasing the squid isn't a good idea unless you want to go for a early November swim."

Iaa laughed, "I guess not." Iaa pulled a light shawl over her shoulders as an especially large wind blew over them. Iaa took her feet out of the water and pulled her knees up to her stomach. She heard some crows cawing over her head and looked up. She thoughtlessly changed Accuri's color. She chirped loudly and Iaa was jerked back to reality.
"Oh sorry."

"So how's Remus? I hear you guys have been spending alot of time together!" Iaa said smirking.

'You two are going out? How come I'm always the last to know these things,' Jackie said. It was true. She was almost always the last person to know things. Jackie was used to it though. She'd get told something and then complain that she was last to find out then she'd get over it almost instantly. It was a strange habit she had.

Jackie looked down at her reflection in the water. The water slowly moved. She studied it for a while. Jackie noticed she was getting a zit. She made a mental note to put some cream on it when she got back up. Other than that her hair was messy, her nose was red from being cold, her lips were bright blue and her face was a pale as a ghost. She rubbed her face slightly to keep it warm.

Beth's face turned an even brighter red than before, which was from the cold wind blowing at her frozen cheeks. She and Remus had rather avoided people so that they wouldn't be found out and talked about but it looked as though their luck had run out. She treaded cautiously, considering the situation and what could have been said about them, particularly her.

"Iaa never said we were going out. And anyway, we were trying to keep it under wraps for awhile." She tried to placate Jackie. "We didn't want people talking like they always do about...other couples." She had a heard a bird chirping nearby and wondered where it was coming from.

"What exactly did you hear, Iaa?" she asked curious. She knew how people could be, vicious and unrelenting in their gossip. Not that she could change the way people thought of her or Remus or them as a couple. She probably shouldn't have been even asking but her desire to know was getting the better of her. "And who from?" She ignored Iaa's question about Remus' health and well-being because she really didn't feel like talking much about him and their relationship. She felt like there were so many secrets that were suddenly brought on them that she was afraid to talk for fear of slipping.

How can it be so sunny and yet so cold at the same time? Guillermo thought bitterly to himself, expelling a cloud of vapor through his loudly chattering teeth. He had been traipsing across the grounds with Felix for what seemed like a chilly eternity, their destination being the lake shore, which loomed closer with every passing second. It was true that the sun was shining brilliantly overhead, but it's rays gave no warmth, and fell on the young man's flesh as cold and discomforting as the rest of the world.

One of Guillermo's hands was tightly clenched around the fingers of his towering companion, and the other was clutching a loaf of stale bread that he had obtained from the house elves only after he assured them that he did not intend to eat it. It was in fact intended for the squid, which as everyone knew, resided in the School's massive lake. He could see that it's normally glassy surface was choppy and tossing about violently today, obviously due to the large gusts of wind that had been whipping across the school grounds for the past week and a half. He hoped that the frothing, tumultuous waters had not caused the squid to settle at the bottom of the lake to wait for a stagnant day.

Guillermo, growing impatient, tightened his grip on Felix's hand and quickened the pace, pointed leather boots kicking up little droplets of near-frozen water as he began to bound across the ocean of damp grass sprawled out ahead of them. The world became a blur as he raced towards the lake, Felix in tow, the bitter wind whipping against them both, seemingly cold enough to pluck the nose from their faces. The viciously frigid air was burning his lungs, his breath billowing from his mouth in great bursts of steam, and the damp skin of his eyes was freezing over as he attempted to blink back reflexive tears caused by the intense cold.

He halted suddenly, skidding a few inches across the slippery grass as a result. He nearly fell over, but luckily for him he was still holding onto Felix, who provided him with a quick means of stability that kept him on his feet. There appeared to be a group of girls sitting near the waters edge, Gryffindors, from the looks of it. He made an uneasy glance over his shoulder, and then continued forth in a much more collected manner, taking the opportunity to catch his breath, which had since vacated his lungs and was returning to him in sharp, icy pangs.

"Come on, Felix." he said, approaching the shore and nodding stiffly towards the trio of girls.

There had been a lot of tension between his house and theirs in the past months, something which he didn't wish to agitate, but he had no other choice. They had decided to lay about and chat near the best location for spotting the squid, and he wasn't going to miss the opportunity just because of a few insufferable tarts.

"I suppose I'm to be held responsible for this fear of yours, much as I hate to admit it, and I guess that makes me responsible for dispatching it. Come on."

He tugged Felix right up to the edge of the lake, and then released his hand, dropping it quickly as if it was something he never wanted to hold again in his life. Which was not far from the truth at all, seeing as it gave him an unsettling bout of nausea in the pit of his stomach, that faded as soon as their fingers unraveled, and found themselves back in their respective pockets.

"Look," he said, tearing off a piece of bread and tossing it into the water demonstratively. It was quickly swallowed up by the lake, and not the squid. Guillermo frowned and then pushed the bread into Felix's hands.

"Think of it like a duck, except it's a great...big duck, with tentacles. They both have beaks and live in the water, so they're not too dissimilar, right?"

The day had originally promised to be as boring as ever for Felix as he wandered about the corridors of the school. None of his books seemed to catch his interest and its not like he was the guy who had loads of friends to chit chat with. But of course as soon as that thought came up he bumped into Guillermo, who had apparently been looking for him. When he had first explained to Felix what they were doing Felix immediately turned the other way, not wanting to have anything to do with the lake monster. It seemed like a trap to him anyways. It was, after all, Guillermo who had started his fear of the squid. But Guillermo obviously wasn't going to take no for an answer since he grabbed Felix's hand and drug him down to the lake. Felix thought of trying to pry himself away but figured that he had nothing better to do anyway.

Of course thoughts of turning back arose again once they got outside. the cold wind hit hit face hard. He looked to the sun for some help in warming up but it was no good. Winter was here and he would just have to tolerate it. He looked forward and saw the lake. He knew those waters would be cold and would hate to be found dangling above them again. His stomach turned this way and that but Guillermo had the death grip on him and there was no letting go.

They finally reached the Lake only to find a few Gryffindor girls chatting about. He recognized Beth from their adventures in the Forbidden Forest but the others only offered faces that he had seen in passing.

When Guillermo finally let go of his hand Felix shoved it down into one of his pockets. He used the other hand to wave at the girls. He didn't want to be rude.

"Hullo Beth" he said quietly before turning back to Guillermo.

"Look mate the bloody squid is not going to bread. Its a giant bloody squid!" He said with a slight hint of an annoyed tone in his voice. He couldn't really digest the fact that they were out in the freezing cold to give a sea creature bread. it was just ridiculous.

Felix looked at the bread he was given for only a moment before just flat out dropping it. His face held an annoyed look for a moment but suddenly out of nowhere he burst into laughter.

"Its just so bloody ridiculous Guillermo. Given a bloody squid bread as if its a duck! there is a difference mate! One is a duck and one is a giant squid" he shook his head and patted Guillermo on the back before picking up the bread and observing it. He grabbed a slice and chucked it into the water before watching it float away.

"See there? no squid. None. Squid doesn't eat bread" at that moment he realized that he was actually being rather loud and obnoxious. Or at least he thought he as. His face quickly changed to one of embarrassment as he looked at the girls and gave them an apologetic look.

OOC: Long posts are good. smile.gif

Beth looked over to see two figures racing toward them and the lake. She didn't know the one who seemed to be a Slytherin, but she immediately recognized Felix, whom she had spent some time with in the Forbidden Forest a month or two ago. No, no it wasn't like that. Just a walk with a new acquaintance discovering nighttime beauty of the forest despite fears.

She smiled and waved enthustiastically back at the 6th year Ravenclaw. "Hi, Felix, how are you?" She watched silently the argument between the two boys. It was rather amusing. How could (what had Felix called him?) Guillermo think that a giant squid, not just a regular squid, would want something so measly as a large chunk of bread? It was sort of sweet and endearing but really, didn't he have enough sense to research these things before charging in?

Guess that's why he's not a Ravenclaw like Felix. It was rather rude of her to think that but sometimes there were truths that one couldn't avoid. Not everyone in Slytherin was so...impulsive and thoughtless; at the same time not everyone in Ravenclaw was calculating and smart. She shrugged her shoulders and got up from her seat.

Any excuse not to answer Iaa's questions were welcomed, though she didn't know if her input would be appreciated in the boys' argument. She walked over and stood next to them, their figures towering over her. "I..uh...think that the squid would prefer some fish from deep down in the lake where he likes to swim." Beth pulled out her wand and finding a rare frog among the tall grass near the lake, she transfigured the amphibian into a fish.

"Try this," she said, desperately trying to hold onto the slippery fish, making a face of disgust. She handed it to Felix.

" I'm fine." he said a bit nervously, still thinking that any minute he would be dangling over a lake. He tried to chase his paranoias away by making the situation seem humorous but it was to no avail. "just trying to give a squid bread. And yourself?" He cracked a half smile as he continued to chuck little peices of bread into the lake.

He raised his eyebrow when she handed him the fish. It wasnt the top thing on his list of things he liked to hold in his hands. He grabbed it by the tail with his thumb and index finger and held it a little away from his body.

"Er, won't it just swim away if I throw that in the water?" he asked with a look of genuine confusion. He looked at the fish in one hand and the loaf of bread and the other, trying to decide which he should throw first. He shrugged and chucked the fish and and then watched it swim away quickly. He laughed and looked back to Beth "Like that?"

He looked at the disgustingly stale loaf of bread and decided that there was really no use for the thing anymore. He threw it as far as he could and watched it float for a moment. Because it was only a moment before none other than the giant squid showed itself on the surface and ate it. If this were a cartoon, felix's jaw would of dropped all the way to the ground. But its not and it just dropped as far as it would. ther was a moment of silence before Felix burst out into laughter. He grabbed Guillermo's hand and shook it.

"Alright mate. You got me there" he said in between laughs.

Beth looked on in amazement that the squid had actually eaten the bread. Good thing she hadn't said anything. Leave it to the squid to prove her wrong. She had never seen the creature eat anything like bread. She shrugged her shoulder.

"You probably should have held onto the fish longer and held it farther over the water until the squid came. Who's going to work at catching a snack when you can easily something semi-stationary." She teased. She didn't know about his fear of the squid. She pictured Felix doing this as the creature came and gobbled the fish right out of his hand. Or at least snatched it with its tentacle.

Beth's eyes grew wide as she remembered something that she had been saving for Felix since she had first met him that dark night in the forest. She knew he would appreciate it as much as she did. She turned to him. "Oh, Felix! I'll be back in a little bit if you don't mind staying out here a few more minutes. I have something for you I thought you might enjoy. It will remind you of our fun night time trip into the Forbidden Forest a couple months ago." She smiled and waved to the others. "Bye girls, see you later."

Jackie noticed Beth get up to leave. She waved as Beth leaved.
'See you,' she yelled after her, 'Why is there even a giant squid here. Aren't they muggle animals?' That question often came across her mind. Alot. It was strange. Last year she researched them and found out they were muggle animals. Of course the subject was Muggle studies. She found it very interesting. The way they moved. How big they grew.

Jackie shivered. She probably should go in.
'Why did you want to feed it anyway?' she asked. It was really pointless to feed it. The squid fed its self. AT least that's what she thought.
'Not to be rude but i didn't catch your names,' she said.
