thoughts meander like a restless wind
inside a letter box
The only sound in the Divination classroom was the steady click click click of the clock as the third hand trekked its way around the face. Ten minutes until class would begin. Upon each of the small round tables, covered in a deep red embroidered tablecloth, sat three to four delicate tea cups on their matching saucers and a steaming tea pot, hovering a little above the table. Today was not a discussion on tea leaves, as she considered that approach to divination absolutely ridiculous. What the hell could anyone see in sodding tea leaves? She'd thought it a complete joke when she had taken the course during her years at Hogwarts as a student, and she still thought it the biggest load of Hipprogriff shite she'd ever heard. However, tea was entirely a different matter. It was necessary for one to be relaxed when delving into the inner eye, and tea was an excellent way of doing so. She served her students tea (and occasionally biscuits) every class period. Though she'd recently heard one student whisper rumor to another that she was slowly poisoning them all. She merely laughed, which unfortunately sounds like a cackle, and scared the poor kids into an abrupt silence.
No, this tea was not poison. It was merely a potion. Of sorts. Still tea, but specifically designed to encourage one to open the mind and heart to new ideas. To thoughts and impressions that are all too easy to miss every other day and time. Humans were busy creatures, and the mind was a machine, for lack of a better word, constantly running. With all the go go go and now now now, the soft whispers of the Inner Eye, gently warning of what was to come, were incredibly easy to miss. It was her personal belief that everyone had a small element of the talent. She theorized a witch or wizard's tiny capacity to tune in with the Inner Eye was the driving force behind 'instincts'. She felt that if people payed more attention to that small, instinctual voice, they could circumvent grief and pain. For those who had the Gift, like herself, instincts meant much more. It was just for herself but for others as well. A talent she was still trying to perfect. Divination was the hardest of magics and the certainly the most elusive, even for her. Yes, she had greater natural talent, but she had to apply discipline to that raw power or it would come to naught.
The barest hint of a smile ghosted at the corners of the rouged lips as students began to trickle into the class room. She was not yet in the classroom, but was looking at it through her, yes, crystal ball, in her office. Her office was connected to the classroom by a small staircase. Her personal suite, however, was located in the dungeons in close proximity to her House. Just in case she was ever needed. The prefects always knew how to get a hold of her. Fortune favors the prepared, so she issued each of her prefects a ring that could contact her in case of an emergency. She felt very smug in the knowledge that the other House Heads were not nearly as ingenious as herself (take that, Carlisle!). When more students had arrived, Tethys carefully draped Boo over her shoulder. Tertius hissed, annoyed at his interrupted nap. She ignored him, since he was always complaining. The other two heads of her Runespoor snake had been awake, and conspiring against him. Poor Tertius. After the three-in-one had comfortably settled, Tethys snatched up her clipboard and swept out the door and into the classroom. Looking down her nose at the students gathered, she said, "Quickly find a seat, would you, Harker? We don't have all day for Divination class. And do try and NOT break a tea cup this time. I am rather partial to my collection."

The professor may not want her students to see this class as an easy 'O' but Maz certainly did. Her talent was strong having been passed down from both sides of her family and she rarely needed to put any effort into making the arts work. Also, since she had quite a disciplined mind she rarely had trouble concentrating properly on the arts when she needed to. Divination and its many branches came far too easy, even for Maz's liking. She liked to be challenged, she liked to learn and most of all she liked the type of problem solving that came with Divination.
When she entered the class she quickly found and settled herself at an empty table at the back. A quick glare at the leering boy on the table beside made him look away and left Maz to get comfy without feeling his eyes on her.
She smiled when a couple of the giggly types of girls jumped at the appearance of the snakes. Stupid girls, they had wands, snakes did not. How exactly was a snake a threat when it was in plain site?
With suspicion in her dark eyes she looked at the cup on the table. She wasn't drinking that. Sure, she loved tea but not any of the pansy flavoured teas and she had an inkling that this was something more. She crossed her arms and waited for the teacher to start the lesson while shooting glances at the cup.
