Deputy Headmistress Hedwig arrived outside the great hall just ahead of the students who where arriving outside the main entrance to the school all with gleaming smiles on their faces. She had watched them arriving and looking up at the beautiful building that stood before them.

The excitement at the start of a new school year was building inside the deputy head as she opened the magnificent oak doors that led into the great hall.

The great hall was quiet and peaceful and looked as wonderful as she had remembered it from many years ago, she too had attended the school during her youth.

The deputy head walked into the centre of the room and took out her wand, with a small flick and a flash of white light from it's tip all the candles where ignited bringing a wonderful warm and welcoming glow to the room.

Hearing the chattering students approaching the main doors she quickly turned on her heel and went out to greet them.
