| Lily had never had any intention of saying 'yes' to one of James' invitations to dinner. Her response was usually a look of disgust mixed with some kind of refusal. But each time he asked, she became more and more annoyed. And today seemed like the perfect storm. None of her classes had been going right, the first years had to be the most useless students ever to walk the Hogwarts grounds and she spilled potion on her new robe. Overall, things had not been going well at all. Then James' came by and asked her out and it was simply the icing on the cake. She had found the way to vent her anger. Lily was usually not sugar sweet when it came to turning down James. But today, all of her hatred and anger went into the declination. She told him he was vile and she informed him of all the people she would rather go on a date with. Then she stormed away in her usual fashion. James didn't know, but Lily had a habit of watching him after she refused him. It started as her trying to see if her would ever lay off. Then it turned into facination of his persisitance. However, today, her refusal struck him differently. James almost always continued on with his day after she said 'no'. He had snapped and yelled at his best friend. And what's worse, Lily felt awful. She had been hoping to make him have some sort of human response to rejection and now that he had, Lily couldn't help but feel guilty. Her own problems seemed meaningless now that she knew James was so messed up by her. It was her fault and she now knew that it had to be fixed. Lily had moped around for the rest of the afternoon after the incident, until her roomates kicked her out. They had seen what had happened, but she had been rather annoying and so she began to wander. Maybe she would find James and be able to set things right. The sun was setting and Lily had made her way around almost the entire school. SHe still hadn't caught sight of messy black hair and a pair of dark glasses. She was about to give up when she realized how stupid she was being. James was always at the Quidditch pitch. Elated that she found the one place he had to be hiding, Lily took off in a run to the pitch. It loomed ahead of her, enhanced by the sun. As she reached the edge, she stopped short. She could see him, laying down on the ground. Lily leaned against one of the stands. What was she doing? He wasn't of her concern. But somewhere inside, she knew she had to fix things. Taking a deep breath, Lily entered the pitch. "Hey" she said softly, pushing her hair behind one ear. |
