I know this is last minute but if there's no problems with it, I would like to schedule a Sailplane Flyin/Gathering for the 24th of this month. That would be this coming weekend.
There won't be a scheduling confilct with work and I know I'll be home! With everything that's going on in the gulf this is the only way I can schedule things like this. If you would like to attend or know someone that would like to attend you can send me a PM with a cell # and I can send out a text to everyone for a reminder and I'm sure Fritz wouldn't mind sending an e-mail out. We'll plan on bringing out whatever food and drinks we can and start it around 8 or 9AM. This will give us time to set up any HighStarts we can. If the weather would happen to turn for the worst we'll schedule it for the next day with e-mail and text notification. I'll get Elton's HighStart if he doesn't come so we'll at least have one. I'll bring 2 cases of drinks, ice, and chips. -------------------- |

I don't think that will be a problem. The gliders won't need the runway area and we would be able to provide extra help, food and drinks when needed! I was thinking of setting it all up on the south side of the field anyways. How's that sound? -------------------- |

There will be around 8 to 16 members out ther doing ALL the work for a 150 member club. I don't think they will take kindly to someone flying while they are out there working & sweating. We had a AWESOME day ( Sunday) A lot of gliders today. When you decide to change it to Sunday Put all the info in an E-mail and send it to Frits . A lot of club members done use the forum. What kind of contest or games are you thinking about?????I like spot landing and limbo. Don't give up. -------------------- An armed socitey is a polite society!

Well Johnny, I know you don't need a runway for a glider. But I know that work and play do not go together. We will need all the help we can get because most club members won't come to a work Day. This work is too benefit everyone. Im not talking about people who have to work on these Day's. And that is sad. Some members have never lifted a finger to help the club. We have a hard time getting the trash can's empty. Maybe we can work and then fly when we get done or put it off untill Sunday. -------------------- Tony Farmer

Tony, I'd like to apologize early for not making the work day. This is the 1st one since I joined and I would be there, but have to catch my boat Tuesday and will have to pass. I know what you mean about a few guys doing all the work. I'm a marshal for my wife's mardi gras society and we have about 15 guys that do all the work for a 300 member woman's society most of the time. I hate I can't be there!!! -------------------- Steve Toland

I had no idea about the work party until this thread. And now that it's only 5 days away I can't make it because I already have plans for the weekend. I imagine that's probably a similar case for the 90-something members who don't read the forum and can't make it to all the meetings too.

The e-mail about the work party is about to go out.
The work party was mentioned and the July 24 date was decided on at the last club meeting. This post has been edited by Flying Dutchman on Jul 19 2010, 06:48 AM -------------------- Frits - AMA Member 403246 (since 1990)

Whether the e-mail about the work party was sent today or last week probably wouldn't make any difference in people's decision to attend... I don't believe people will change their vacations to be at a work party...
You send a message too early, people forget. From my experiences, sending it a few days ahead of time is usually best. The quickest way to spread the word to all our 106 club members is to actually compose an e-mail yourself with all necessary information, send it to me and I'll gladly pass it on right away. (Like the glider event...) Too many times that is not done and it's left up to me to call people, get details, etc. I should not have to do that. Anyway, the work party word is out... Well, since I go back to work today, I wouldn't be able to attend either the Glider Fly In or the Work Party, sorry. If I were going to be home, I'd gladly attend both.

I'll put in another post for rescheduling it and if you would, Fritz, send out an e-mail for me to everyone notifying them. Thanks, for your help by the way. For future reference we could get a listing to Fritz of everyones cell numbers and send out a text message reminder, the week of an event that is scheduled. Even a day or 2 before also. This would be after an e-mail is sent out a week prior to the event. Just a suggestion. Robert--I was just gonna make it a noncompetative event for now. This would be good to get together all the people interested to discuss future events and ideas! -------------------- |
