"South Pit Ramblings" by Alvin Reed Saturday Afternoon August 1 Report/Pictures It looked like ,on the weather radar, that here would be a several hours break in the rain and I decided to go visit the field. I arrived to find very few folks there, most can be forgiven for not showing, but Russell will have some explaining to do as he is so regular. Russell's brown leatherette lounge chair sat empty all afternoon. Not to fear though, we left some dirty dishes in the sink for Russell to take care of. ![]() There was no waiting or fighting for a prime pit area spot today. Grass out front looked very nice, Jeff must have just recently cut it. Has been a good grass growing year with all the regular rain. ![]() Katarina was happy that her Trex 600 Nitro Pro chopper was doing much better after a glo plug change seemed to solve her engine operation problems that plagued her last weekend. ![]() A view in the side door of Kat's RC aircraft hauling trailer showed some neat things ready to go if the Trex gave too much problems today. ![]() There was a stranger at the field today, seemed somewhat vaguely familiar, said his name was David. ![]() In an effort to be one of the elite Cub pilots, Roger Hagler had this sort of imitation Cub flying today. It is yellow and notice the Cub decal on vertical fin and the black lightening bolt down the side of fuselage. ![]() It was reported to me that Paul Verger had been at field earlier, but he had cut out just before my arrival. A good thing to, or we would have been a hot dog short. ![]() Last I heard, the chance of rain had dropped to only 40% for Sunday, so I expect a good bit better turn out of people. Try to be one of them if you are able. ![]() Tony has promised to be out and if Robert shows and with kitchen helper first class Russell, I hope for a nice buffet to be set on the table by the time of my arrival. Sunday Afternoon August 2 Report/Pictures
Not as rainy today and this was reflected as a much larger group of people and aircraft at field. Sorry that I missed Tony, he had left field early just before I arrived, or so I was told, they may have just been funing with me. Even Andrew managed to slip off from home for a field trip with Randy helping make some excuse to Amber for the trip probably. ![]() There was a beautiful very scale Champ out to field today, brought by Al. I understand that this was a project by four local modelers and was under construction several years ago. It has never seen flight and did not today due to some problem with the engine quitting as it neared the runway. ![]() The Champ had a very realistic engine compartment, with the operating twin cylinder four stroke engine. ![]() Just one example of the scale detail on the Champ, was this rib stitching and pinking tape work. ![]() As with any large complicated project like this, it takes a crew of helpers and supervisors. ![]() Carl has the crying towel ready, just in case anything goes wrong with Dewey's P-51 Mustang flight, was not needed today. ![]() Frank Madison was giving his nice Pitts Special bipe an outing with Mike McLaughlin as the pilot, best I remember. ![]() A simi-new guy was getting some help from Frits with his trainer airplane. I remember Sam from a couple years ago and he has returned to pick up on the flight lessons. Sam and Alvin had a great informative discussion about Egyptian Antiquities and a possible treasure expedition. ![]() We had a grill full of meat and the table was laden with Robert's usual vegetable buffet plus some watermelon, cake, ice cream, cookies, and candy, it was all mighty tastie. ![]() Here, we have Henry polishing off the last of the ice cream, I think with a Log Cabin syrup topping. ![]() It does not look like Henry's Spacewalker pilot got any of the ice cream. ![]() I caught Katarina looking over Dewey's Cub, she says that she is getting one just like it. ![]() While dreaming of one day having a nice J-3 Cub to play with, Kat works out her Trex 600 Nitro Pro helicopter. ![]() What a sweet couple, Mike and Dawn with the kids, and they love hot dogs, but are not allowed to partake except for what I slip them. -------------------- Alvin Reed™ - MARCMAF Admin

Sunday Report Continued
I caught Mr. Herbert giving a look over to this neat little black and yellow Yak RC airplane. Mr. Herbert is involved with Country Music like Tony's dad Melvin and they threaten to come out with something to fly one day. ![]() Robert Sanderson shows his twin engine Double Demon speed plane to RCer and competition U-controler Russ Green, I think they were discussing the addition of a rocket booster pac to the Demon plane one day soon. Andrew flew the Demon plane today and lets just say that the landing was eventful with one of the engines parting company, I think. ![]() TJR's Lanier Stinger airplane is on the ready table in preparation for the cranking up procedure. ![]() Well, the little brown leatherette lounge chair had it's usual occupant today as Russell made a return to the field after a few days layoff. ![]() Russell's return to the field found a pile of dirty dishes awaiting him in the sink and Russell soon made quick work of getting them all scrubbed and polished and ready for the next cooking/eating. Thanks Russell for doing the donkey work. -------------------- Alvin Reed™ - MARCMAF Admin

That is perfectly OK Elton. I do appreciate it that folks are so anxious to read my twiddly little field reports that I see them checking in all through the night. Hey Elton, have any of those bayou "Lock Lizards" been knocking on your tugboat cabin door lately. -------------------- Alvin Reed™ - MARCMAF Admin

I enhanced this photo to bring out more of the pixel relics and look what slowly faded into view.
Seems that Tony's spirit had hung around the field in order to get a look at the nice scale Champ. -------------------- Alvin Reed™ - MARCMAF Admin
