"South Pit Ramblings"

by Alvin Reed

Tuesday Afternoon November 3 Report/Pictures

I was busy shopping last night for some foam brushes (first to Lowes then to Walley World where I found some nice ones) for the clear coat paint application to Tony's L-4 Cub and the very special flat clear coat paint had only just came in by Air Express as ordered by Tony. Wayne had picked up the paint and some brushes earlier today and so we had to get on out to the Secret Skunk Works Factory to see how it was working out.

The engine cowl has received a coat of clear coat as the pilot proudly points out and the window metal flashing is mostly all painted and is being riveted down in final position. The top hatch window is finalized and shows just how realistic the finished riveted window flashing treatment looks.

The Skunk Works was busy today with a second customer's airplane being worked on. Scotty had his big KIA Dog airplane in for application of new graphics. Wayne's eyes were probably happy to be looking at another color besides Olive Drab for a change. wink.gif

The new graphics looked way cool, colorful, and professionally applied. The KIA Dog was getting prettied up for an out of town event this weekend.

I heard talk at the Skunk Works about this weekend looking nice weather wise and we will probably see the L-4 Cub at Irvington Field with all the little details finished out and it might even go for a flight. unsure.gif

They been working on the "glutching" problem by rerouting/locating radio equipment/wiring in the L-4 and testing on ground with engine running.
Seem to have done some good, as I heard from horses mouth.

On my cub they used diigtal servos and on the ends of the airilons they used a ring on the ends of the servos extension wires. Wayne told me what the rings were for but I have forgotten. Something to do with magnetic fields I think?

That would be a "Ferrite Ring Filter" used to prevent RF breakthrough into servo signal wire, I think.

I mentioned this to Wayne, but he did not seem to think that it would help in this case.

I understand that the clear coating is now done and window flashing treatment completed.

Might just be another report from the Skunk Works today. unsure.gif
I might get to eat one more time at the Dog Track Exit Pilot/Wendy's (best Chili around almost).
