Benita (ChampeesmomTotograndmom) posted about this on our other board, after finding out about it via Twitter.

PetAg has an announcement on their site about some Kitten Milk Replacer (KMR) formula being spoiled. They will replace it. They warn consumers NOT to use the product if it has an off odor.

Benita also posted this link about problems with the formula

and I found this link via Google

I hope the company can correct this problem and that it won't ever happen again. I've given KMR to my cats when they were kittens for more than 20 years, and I've always recommended it as a good product. But I did have some problems with the canned KMR last fall, giving it to Rusty after I rescued him. Some of the cans turned bad, the liquid formula smelling sour, in about a day instead of the three days they were supposed to last. I called the company to complain, and they sent me replacement cans, which were fine. I don't know whether that problem was related to the current problem with the powder formula.

I discovered tonight that the KMR Powder Update page has been removed from the company's site. The Indybay.org page that Benita found the link to has comments about the announcement being removed, plus a link to this site

http://www.animaladvocates.us/petagesbilac.htm

which saved the PetAg announcement and has more info.

I don't know whether the announcement about not using the product and calling for a replacement will reappear later. This was the information about the problem, and reporting it (which Benita had posted, but I didn't copy here earlier since the link still worked then):

QUOTE
KMRŽ Powder Update

Recently, a limited number of KMR powder users have experienced product producing an off odor. Normally, the product exhibits a faint "milky" smell.

It has been determined that some packaged KMR powder may have been exposed to excessive heat outside the manufacturing process.

Do not use the product if it has an off odor. Please contact PetAg Technical Services at 800-323-0877 and provide all of the information printed on the bottom of the can.  For any bagged product, you can find the information on the sticker near the UPC on the back of the bag. This will provide production and tracking information for further analysis.

Replacement KMR product will be sent, following contact with Technical Services.

Liquid KMR products have exhibited no impact from heat stress.

This was such a surprise to me! I hope they can get the problem fixed quick. There are so many people who give this their kittens.

I've edited my first message here to provide another link, and the specific info on reporting problems with this product.

Here's a link to another forum's discussion of the problem:
