[L & T] R u l e sThese are the rules. We all know what they’re for (and no, the answer isn’t “to be broken”). Starting;- Guests planning on joining the site – please, when registering for the first time, sign up with your character’s first and last name. No middle name, please, just to keep things organized. The first part of the applicant code is Lies.
- When applying for a new character, whether original or canon, make sure they have realistic issues - human beliefs and opinions – and incorporate them into your character’s thought process and actions just as you do with your own. However, be sure not to place too much of your own personality into a character, or you might find yourself offended by another members’ characters’ opinion of your character (if that makes sense). If you’re too similar, your own feelings may be hurt.
- The second part of the applicant code is bind. When making a new character, please consider the character limit on the site. Members are allowed a maximum of three characters here on L&T, and that’s a final decision. This is to support the idea of quality over quantity. We’d rather have one character that knows almost everyone in the school than three characters that each know one person.
- Plot characters, a.k.a. canons, are only loose ideas. While the general idea of the characters is introduced by the administrators and should be carried out as asked, don’t be afraid to make the character your own. Develop beyond the task set down for that character. They existed before whatever role they play in the plot, and they’ll exist afterwards. Tell us why they do what they do, and how they logic out their actions. But be careful! Out-of-control canons (meaning those that don’t play their roles any more or are doing so erratically and against what’s written in their applications), or extremely inactive characters will likely be taken away.
Posting;- All posts should be in third person format and tense limited to past only. Also, each post should be at least 200 words long, worst come to worst. If the administrators catch you repeatedly posting below this limit, you will be warned. The third part of the applicant code is us. If you’re really stuck in a rut, ask one of the administrators or moderators for tips on spicing up your writing. We’re always happy to help.
- Regarding fighting – your character can be hurt. This is realistic writing. Physics apply. Guys are probably going to be stronger than girls, unless, of course, you play an incredible athlete and you’re talking to someone who lives in the library. Just stick to your character’s abilities. The fourth part of the applicant code is together. Also, power-playing and god-modding are SERIOUS no-no’s. You may throw a punch or try to slap someone, but it’s up to that person whether it actually lands (be realistic about this, of course. You can’t dodge every blow). If someone has given you permission to hit their character, please leave an OOC note somewhere in the post stating so or you will be warned.
- This is a mature roleplaying site. There will be violence, there will be drugs or alcohol mentioned, and there might be sex. While we will try to keep things from being too graphic, warnings should be posted in mature topics’ descriptions. We expect people to accept these things maturely and without complaint. If you don’t like it, don’t read that topic.
- If you plan on killing your character, please leave an OOC note in your post. The character that is dying must be in a realistically dangerous situation, and the person who plays that character must give their permission for that character to die. If you plan on killing off a plot character, please contact an administrator for permission. If your character faces a scenario where death is unavoidable, like getting cornered in a burning room, they ought to die. Don’t get into something like that unless you want your character to die – you can’t take it back.
- When you make a new thread, please let us know who you plan on replying if you had someone in mind. This can be done through the tag system, by writing something along the lines of “Tag: other player name” in a topic’s description. If you’d like someone else to join after that person, add “then open” to the above phrase. The fifth part of the applicant code is truth. If there is no one in particular you’d like to post in that topic, just type, “Tag: open”.
- Finally, chatspeak is not allowed. We understand ‘lol’, but we don’t want to see any, “OMG, ur goin to the store! me too! brb!”, not even in the chat box. Sorry.
Images;- While an avatar or signature is not strictly necessary, it’s nice to have a visual of your character. Please look around when creating a new character, to see if there’s a real-life person you can use as a basis for your character’s appearance. Please make sure, however, that the chosen person isn’t taken by checking the Face Claim topic in the Signature Request forum. The sixth part of the applicant code is isolates.
- Detailed art, particularly anime images, should not be used as a basis for a character’s appearance in signatures or avatars.
- Avatars should be no larger than 100x100 pixels.
- Signature pictures should be no wider than 500 pixels. If avatar-sized pictures are used in your signature, please limit yourself to a maximum of four.
- Please do not post any offensive material, as in disturbingly violent images or pornography. The seventh part of the applicant code is us. The picture will be removed and your account warned - or should it happen again - deleted.
Cbox;- Do not spam the cbox. No one’s going to want to join a site with “I’m bored” written at the top of the message board.
- Don’t advertise in here. That’s what the ad forum is for.
- Please don’t cuss or say anything insulting to other members in here. Disputes should be settled over PM. The consequences to breaking any of these rules is a warning, suspension, or removal of the right to post in here. The eighth part of the applicant code is from.
Administrators/Moderators/Members;- Please be respectful of other people’s characters and writing. Don’t complain to others about a certain member, and don’t spend an entire post having your character chew out another.
- Remember – Administrators and Moderators are not gods! They’re people just like you, interested in maintaining and improving the site. Please don’t be afraid to approach us with a problem or suggestion. There’s a board for both in the Welcome Forum, called ‘FAQ’. We care about our members, and don’t need to limit our advice to writing. The ninth part of the applicant code is each.
- Don’t forget, though, that administrators reserve the right to remove accounts if the owner repeatedly breaks these rules, or to restrict characters that are becoming out-of-control. While these consequences are both last resorts, we’re not afraid to do what we can to keep the site running smoothly.
The final part of the applicant code is other. These rules may change and lengthen as the site grows. Please read them regularly.
