Title: SOD Performer of the week
Description: Laura Wright

When Laura Wright traded in GL's sweet Cassie for GH's brash Carly, she brought a mix of power and passion that made the part her own. More than two years later, she's still finding new layers to mine in this complicated, fasinated and often maddening character.

Pregnant Carly survived her cannery explosion order, but stress and high blood pressure threatened the life of her and Jax's unborn baby. "It's a sharp, sharp pain... Do what you have to do. I don't want to lose this baby!" With Jax by her side, Carly tried to concentrate on the positive. "I know it's good for the baby to have you here." she smiled softly. "It's good for me too." Wright's delivery touched the soul because she whispered those words: It was as if she said them too loudly, fate would retaliate by taking her blessing away.

Carly can be so in-your-face that it's not always easy to sympathize with her. But when she heard those two dreaded words from Kelly after an ultrasound- "I'm sorry- she covered her face with her hands, ripped out her oxygen tube and let out a guttural cry. "I'm so sorry." she then sobbed to Jax. "I'm so sorry I lost our baby." Despite his reassuring hug, Carly was inconsolable.

Later, Carly went numb with grief. Wright kept her eyes down, unable to return anyone's gaze. "I wish I could say something like, "I'm sure I'll feel better soon' Or "Who said life was fair?' But that seems pretty empty to me right now. I just want to go home."

Wright soaked those words in melancholic richness, revealing a vulnerablity we've never seen before- and affirming that, as Carly, she clearly is home.

Major kudos to Laura and I hope that she will get more praise next week in SOD for her performance this whole week with her portrayal of Carly. And how the emotions of the character ran true to form- the anger, hurt, disbelief, denial, helplessness of wanting to do something and every other emotion that Laura put out in those scenes.

LW so deserves an Emmy this year. With all the stuff she has had to do...and pulling it off flawlessly to boot...I will be so mad if she doesn't get one.
