My SoC general’s brother.
Name: Matthias Von Carstein Race: Von Carstein Vampire (Thrall) Gender: Male Age: 362 (340 as a vampire)
Appearance: Matthias wears dark clothes, like his brother, but he has a fondness for red. As such he normally wears a crimson shirt and black pants. To show his allegiance he wears a sash across his chest of blue and black, the colors of the Saylam household. None of his clothes have any form of finery on them; instead they are purely functional though their quality is apparent anyway. A black cloak hangs from his shoulders with red trimming on the inside that reaches to his ankles and is never seen to be removed. He has long blond hair reaching down to his shoulders which has a natural wave to it. It is obviously well looked after and he attempts to keep it tidy at all times. He has cold ice blue eyes that rarely display emotion unless he feels rage and anger. He stands just less than an inch shorter than his brother but is obviously bulkier than him. A single scar runs down his face just to the side of his right eye, running from hairline to the side of his mouth.
Weapons: Matthias wields an unnamed great sword. The weapon is not magical but his enhanced speed and strength allow him to wield it far quicker than many would assume. It is a plain weapon with no extra detailing or embellishment; instead it is a straightforward efficient weapon. How, when and where he got it are unknown and, as he could get another rather easily anyway, unimportant.
Amour: Matthias wears a suit of plate mail similar to his brothers. It lacks the detail and grace of Luther’s set but more than makes up for it with sheer strength. Where Luther uses speed and grace to dodge blows, Matthias uses his armor and natural toughness to withstand them. Like Luther though he does wear it underneath his normal clothes and, though it is quite restrictive he can still move quite rapidly when needed.
Other: When wizards, of any kind, are around Matthias they find it incredibly hard to concentrate or focus their spells. It is a slightly different form of the ability Luther has that does not only activate on home soil. However it has been found that reading from scrolls or using enchanted items are not affected by this.
Being freshly reawoken after many years of sleep Matthias is quite slow and still regaining his powers. Sunlight makes him feel sluggish and he doesn't yet have enough power to call upon the clouds to shield him from its rays. Given time (and blood, lots of blood...yesssssss) his powers will return fully, however at the moment he is about as powerful as a Thrall.
History: Matthias and his brother, Luther, were the twin sons of a minor noble house of the empire. As young men they wanted for nothing, all they had to do was name it and their father would arrange it for them. They experienced parties, politics and battle in their short years as humans.
During their twenty second year they went on a hunt organized by their father to the forests around Talabheim, this was to be their end. During the hunt they happened across the dead bodies of an empire scouting party. A single man dressed in black and coated with the blood of the soldiers sat in the middle of the corpses, snarling he attacked the brothers and their fellows. It was soon apparent that they could not defeat the monstrosity as he slaughtered their companions with a contemptuous ease. It seemed to sense something in the brothers though, perhaps their survival instinct or maybe their will to defeat their opponents no matter the cost. Whatever the truth the vampire, for that is what the creature was, spared them from death, instead damning them to a fate many would consider far worse. Overcoming first one then the other of them the vampire, rather than killing them, merely knocked them out.
When the pair awoke again they found the world a changed place to them. Their senses were sharper, more acute and their physical prowess was similarly increased. They quickly realised the fact that the vampire they fought had cursed them to an existence as the living dead but despite this they returned to their family.
Unfortunately news travels fast and their father had heard about what had occurred to the hunting party, it seemed someone had stumbled upon them after the vampire had departed but before the brothers had awakened. Their father and his family guards confronted the pair before attacking. Then commenced a running battle through the Saylam estate in which the brothers used their superior speed and strength to isolate the guards before moving in for the kill. By the end of the night their whole family was dead along with their guards.
After looting the house the brothers fled to the forests, moving around constantly to avoid detection. Unfortunately for them a particularly zealous warrior priest discovered their trail and, after recruiting a band of like-minded followers tracked down the rouge twins. Another running battle started, though this one the twins were destined to lose. After eventually being cornered at the ruins of a great mansion they were struck down by the priest before being buried in ceremonial coffins and chained up to make sure they could never return.
200 years later they have awakened and now roam the land searching for the priest’s descendants to wreak their revenge.
(Please note the history is directly stolen from Luther)
