Hubert had found the body. It was in the second floor, in moaning mytrles bathroom. A toilet had flown half-way across the room and the room was almost flooded.
It boggled the mind. Why had the student died? It was like the chamber of secrets all over again, even though Hubert was sure that the Basilisk had been killed and that there was no chance it could come back. But then if that was the case, why had this student died?

Hubert had removed the body to a safe location and kept it there, he had also called all the staff to the staff room to tell them teh news.

Reta stood outside the door to the staff room, and then opened the door and stepped into the room. She had been called there, for what she knew not. She stood slightly in the center of the room. "What happened?" she asked. It had to be something serious, for him to call the whole staff together.

Falcon was new to the school, at least in the teaching sense, but he was under the impression that this was relatively true for several of the teachers. However, he knew his way well enough to the staffroom, and found himself arriving just after the door closed. Hoping he wasn't the last to arrive (always a social embarrassment), Falcon slipped quickly through the door, glancing around.

Nope. Not the last at all. Indeed, the only people here thus far were the headmaster himself and a young woman who looked quite a few years younger than himself. Smiling cordially at the headmaster, he draped himself languidly in an armchair and summoned a glass of water. The start of the school year was proving to be rather more trying than he had expected.

"I was wondering the same thing."

He smiled at the girl as he took a sip, and then set the glass down before realizing that he should stand and make an introduction. Being rather tired, Falcon's manners weren't quite up to par.

"Pardon me."

He stood, offering his hand.

"I don't believe we've met. I'm Falcon--Falcon Meadows."

Reta conjured herself a chair and took a seat while she waited for the others to arrive. But as another Professor entered the room, one she had met yet (considerign she had only met Terrance), she stood as he spoke to her.
"Hi." she said, taking his hand and giving a quick shake. "I'm Reta Grace. Pleasure to meet you." she said, giving him a quick smile before returning back to her chair.

He sat as well, though made sure that she did so first--as was, of course, only polite. The headmaster had remained silent for the exchange, and Falcon had the impression that he wouldn't be saying much before the whole of the staff gathered. It didn't make much sense to explain things more than once, after all.

"I must say, you don't look at all familiar, and I'm sure I would have remembered such a pretty face. Did you attend Hogwarts, or did you only just graduate recently?"

He smiled charmingly behind her, but there was nothing at all behind his compliment. She was pretty, of course--but in a modern sort of way, and Falcon had always been the traditional sort. But he was curious as to why he hadn't seen her before, and he had an eye for faces--her was distinct enough that he was sure he would have remembered it.

Reta turned in her chair to face the Professor, then decided to just turn her chair altogether so that she could talk to him. After all, they still had to wait for the other Professors to arrive.
"Both." she said simply. "I attended Hogwarts since I was eleven, but I jsut graduated last year. This is my first year teaching." she said. "And you? Did you attend Hogwarts as well?"

"I did."

That made much more sense though. If she had only just graduated then she would have been several years below him, in which case he didn't feel nearly so bad for not noticing her. So she was--what?--nineteen? Twenty, maybe?

He felt old.

He had known, of course, that his apprencticeship would take several years, but it had never occured to him that multiple years of students would have graduated since then. But if she had just... as was maybe nineteen, twenty... then...

His head gave a sharp jerk, and he turned his focus away from the direction it had just been headed. If she said anything about his apparent tick, he would chalk up it to Ravenclawness--getting lost in your thoughts and then jerking suddenly back out of them.

"I must have been several years ahead of you, though. I graduated, ah... four years ago? Five? Merlin, I can't even remember."

He sighed, a soft smile gracing his features.

"What is it you teach?"

Reta smiled. "Well, then, you must have graduated when I was in second or third year, so chances are I didnt know you in school." she said. Up until her fifth year, she had only been with her group of friends she had made in first year, and didnt venture out and collect more friends until she was a bit older.
"I teach Flying." she said. "It was just about the only position open." she added. "It's good though, not having to deal with the older students. And yourself?"

He murmured in agreement with her first statement and nodded to the second. That made a good deal of sense. Flying was probably one of the few subjects that could be taught straight out of school--that he was demoting it in any way, simply that almost all of the other subjects would require teaching students only a year younger than oneself, and that simply didn't sound like a good idea.

"Arithmancy."

Not most people's favorite subject, which he actually considered a good thing. It meant that anyone who stuck to it actually cared about the subject, and therefore left him with a focused, motivated class.

"I just finished an apprenticeship in both Arithmancy and Ancient Runes, but it was always my favorite."

"I never liked that class." Reta said softly. She looked at the other Professor. "No offense to you or anything, I just never got it." she added. It had been pointless for her to continue in that subject longer than she needed to. She had tried it, failed, and so never tried it again. "As for Ancient Runes," she said, "That was one of my facorite classes. I thought it neat how many different runes and meanings there were, even if it was hard trying to memorize them." Reta had ecentually dropped that subject as well, taking only necessary subjects to qualify her to be an Auror, but then hadnt followed that dream. She could still go back and train, maybe, but at the moment she was content with teahing, even if the first year buggers got frustrating.

"Just as I was never much of a flier."

He took another sip of his water, dissapointed that they were still the only two to have arrived. Not that he minded--it was good to get the chance to talk--but he would have liked to meet a few of the other teachers as well. It was odd for him to be so completely out of his element, as he had spent the last few years almost exclusively in the company of his Master.

"So tell me Reta, is there anything new to do around here? Or is it still the same castle, same Hogmeade... A few small shops and Rosie's place?"

He missed the Broomsticks, actually. Maybe he'd go for a drink later.

ooc: ...Master? so hes with voldemort??

Reta smiled slightly. "It's still the same. A few new Professors, or maybe theyre just new to me, but there's a new Waitress at the three Broomsticks, thats about all." she said. "Oh, and a new shop opened up. Another quidditch shop, of course, so maybe that wouldnt interest you." she added softly. Of course, she had been in there a few times. She loved flying, and missed playing Quidditch with her teammates. "Do you like Quidditch?" she asked curiously. Someone could hate flying, but still appreciate Quidditch.

OOC: In this case, Master means... like... Doctorate. They use the term 'Mastery' in the books, so that's what I'm going with. Not to say Falcon wouldn't support Voldie... he is a bit of a pureblood traditionalist.

"I... respect the players. They have a great deal of talent."

To tell the truth, it scared him a bit. All those flying balls, and the heights... he had always hated heights, and watching other people fly was not much better. But some of his best friends flew, and so he had always been supportive. He just had no intention of following them some fifty plus feet into the air on a stick.

"Perhaps after the meeting, you'd go have a drink with me?"

He paused, and then suddenly realized that, having just met her, he might have to explain his intentions.

"Purely as friends, of course. I'm sure you have a boyfriend already."

Hubert noticed all of a suden, that there were two teachers already waiting. Instead of waiting for the others to arrive, which frankly could take ages, he decided to speak now.

'Right then, earlier today I was walking down the second floor corridor and I happened to come across a large puddle. I am aware that Moaning Myrtle likes to flood the bathroom on occasion, so I simply stepped inside intending to clear up the mess.... what a mess I found.'

He sighed, running his hand over his face. 'Carly Newton, a fourth year Gryffindor was lying on the floor in the water, a toilet had been ripped off it's fixture and was lying several feet away. Carly was daed.'

He paused

'Now what this means I do not know. There seems to have been severe damage to the bathroom, but there appears to be no physical injuries on her. I have called her parents and they will be arriving shortly. What I don't know however, is what we will tell the students. They are bound to realise her disaperance.'

Reta smiled politely. She didnt answer the boyfriend part, but she nodded. " Sure, a drink, as purely friends only." she said. "Sounds good."
Just then, the Headmaster began to talk, so she turned her attention to him.
She gasped when she heard the news. "You dont think..." she trailed off. The last time Voldemort had come back to power, there had been deaths as well, with no apparent injuries, as if they had just dropped dead.
