Year 1
Summer
Day 26

Having recieved two letters from Teresa Delaine, Athanasius decided he would have to come see her. It was only polite to thank her for the food and the invitation in person. A little uneasy about the matter, Athe wandered out to the farmlands in search of the Delaine Property. Teresa had mentioned working on a farm, so he assumed that's where her house would be. Athe assumed right.

Finding the Delaine Fields pretty easily, Athe walked up to the door and looked around a bit. If he had any paper, he would have simply written a reply letter, but he had neither paper nor a pen. Besides, he would be seeing her on the 30th anyways as he planned on going to see the fireworks.

Reaching out, he knocked on the wooden door of the house, hoping that Teresa was home. He hadn't seen anyone in the fields, but he didn't want to leave simply because of that. For all Athe knew, the family was inside the house, despite the nice weather. The season was almost over, so the farm work was probably small for the next few days. Whatever the reason, it justified his assumption that they were in the house, and so, he knocked.

Teresa was in the kitchen making a cake, a big cake, it was her brother's birthday and they were pigs. She was making a big strawberry cake for the siblings. once the cake was at the oven Teresa heard someone at the door, normally Samuel would open the door but they were at the barn fixing what needed to be fixed.

Walking to the door Teresa opened it, only to see Athe, she was a little embarrassed due to her looks although she didn't let her appearance control herself. "Hello! Come on in." she said pulling him by the arm and closing the door.

"Sorry to pull you but I have something on the oven and we need to hurry!!" she said as she took Athe to the kitchen. "So what brings you here? oh! here!" she asked him as she placed in front of him a dish with small fried fish tempered with salt. Teresa looked at Athe before turning to take the cake off the oven, as she placed the cake on the counter she waited for Athe's reply.

Athe was glad that it was Teresa who opened the door, but being literally dragged inside was a different story. After hearing her apology over the matter, he simply nodded, as usual. As he watched her both pull out a plate of fish and a cake, Athe knew something was up. Well, nothing was wrong with the fish, she gave him fish for lunch often. The cake was what bothered him. What reason would Teresa have for baking a cake on a day like this? Unless...

"Your letters." he started, waving away the thoughts of possibly interrupting an important event for Teresa's family. He stopped there though to take a bite of the fish Teresa made for him. Unfortunately, he didn't continue.

Teresa smiled at Athe when she handled him the fish. Teresa began to decorate the cake with white cream before taking the strawberries out of the fridge. Teresa ate one and offered them to Athe before hearing him talking about the letters although he didn’t say much about them.

”Yeah I assumed we wouldn’t be talking for a few days.” she said before snatching another strawberry. ”so I left letters and lunch for you!” she said before hearing someone entering the kitchen.

As soon Thomas entered the kitchen he looked at Athe but didn’t say anything he snatched a strawberry before turning to the young man ”Hello!” he said with a smile and stretching his hand.

Seeing a strawberry being offered to him, Athe simply shook his head in reply. He wasn't fond of sweet things.

"That was very kind of you." was all he said, as he continued to eat. The fish was delicious as always. But, he stopped as soon as he heard someone come inside. It was a man around Athe's own age, who looked as though he were related to Teresa, judging by just his looks of course.

Being the anti-vocal man he was, Athe simply raised his hand in a slight wave in reply, and looked at the man with his cold gray eyes.

Teresa smiled at Athe and at her brother that tried to steal another strawberry but got slapped instead. Teresa looked at Athe "Wasn't that our agreement? By the way did you consider what I proposed?" she asked Athe before looking at Thomas who was smiling at the young man.

Thomas was clueless of what was happening although he assumed it was his sister's business and simply left the kitchen to go back to the barn. Teresa looked at Thomas and whispered a insult that sounded like 'idiot' but it was really hard to understand what she said.

After a few seconds Christopher entered the kitchen, "Hello!" he said before leaving to the second floor.

Teresa looked at Christopher and then at Athe "Don't mind them, just don't get scared when the third one enters." she said with a laugh waiting for Athe's reply.

Athe kept his eye on the man. He was never too good with strangers at first. In truth, he was never too good with people in general. But, he tried to keep from giving off an unfriendly air, and so he stopped staring.

"I'll come." was all he said in reply to Teresa's question. It really didn't take much time to think of that answer. Despite the lessons, he still felt indebted to her. As he said this, the man left, but another came to take his place, again, looking very similar to Teresa, and the man from before.

Again, Athe raise a hand as an attempt to wave at the man, but the new man left soon after. According to Teresa, there were three of them. He snorted slightly at her warning. It took a lot to scare Athe. Much more than a scary older brother, for that was who Athe assumed they were.

Teresa smiled at his answer but he didn't quite finished it "I'm also talking my second proposition, the idiots are finishing the repairs of the ceiling so it will be safe." she said approaching Athe. She grabbed his hand and pulled him out the back door, there was a large porch with wood couches and a table, a little further there was a red building that looked like a barn.

Teresa kept pulling Athe until she reached the building, she looked in side and two of her brothers were fixing the roof, well one of them, the other was sleeping in hay."So it's not much but it will keep you warm for the winter and you'll always have hot meals since the house is just over there!" she said said pointing to the house that was clearly visible from where she was standing.

From nothing someone shouted and appeared behind Teresa, Samuel was fairly tall, taller than Athe and his figure could be seen behind the other young man. "Good morning!" Samuel said looking at Athe from head to toe but unlike what he did with Andrew he didn't open his mouth but that might be because his sister threatened saying that she'll leave the house and will leave on the forest.

Soon Samuel left to grab Thomas to make him go back to work.

Mean while Teresa looked at Athe "That's the big idiot, he's just tall he's as soft as a sheep!" she said with an embarrassed face where a light pink color could be seen on her cheeks. "so . . . what do you think?" she asked him with a little excitement on her voice.

Following Teresa, since he didn't have much of a choice in the matter, Athe got the chance to see more of the Delaine Property. It was a nice farm; very spacious. As she led him to the barn, he thought about the second letter. He wasn't sure if Teresa was being serious when he read it, so he hadn't thought of a reply.

Seeing the barn, Athe simply looked it over. It was a barn, nothing more. His thoughts were soon interrupted by a voice behind him. Turning, his cold gray eyes met those of a tall man. Here was the third brother. He looked bulkier than Athe, but Athe wasn't scared. Nodding to the man who had spoken to him, he kept his gaze steady. Soon, the man left.

Turning his head back to Teresa, he blinked for a few moments and stayed silent.

"I would hate to impose." was his only reply.

Teresa looked at Athe and frowned at his reply, frowned at his reply, although she was already expecting it, Athe would be the kind of person to deny it but Teresa wasn’t going to take ‘no’ for an answer. ”I’m offering, you are not imposing, besides I know you sleep at the forest and I assume you only eat once a day, that’s not healthy!” she said looking at him.

Teresa pulled his arm for a while before talking again ”Not to mention you are teaching me how to use the sword, it’s the least I could do and knowing you I let you spend winter outside, the barn is old it’s true but you won’t freeze and you’ll eat hot meals.” probably he would refuse again, they hardly knew each other but Teresa felt like she should help.

It was a little funny to have a young girl tell Athe about being healthy. True, not eating wasn't that healthy, but he'd lived up until now, sometimes on only a couple meals a week. Athanasius was used to worse situations.

But, Teresa seemed determined. Of course she didn't know that Athe would be able to last the winter out in the forest. It wasn't too dangerous out there and again, he'd been in worse situations before. The mountains were much colder than a meadow all year round.

"Fine..." Athe muttered, feeling defeated. He knew he couldn't argue with her. For once in his life, Athe was facing a battle he couldn't win. Besides, he didn't always have to stay there. It was a little odd in the first place, seeing as how he barely knew the girl and his family. At least in the barn, he could stay out of their way.

Teresa smiled and began to think a lot of things to bring to the barn, a hay bed wasn't to comfy but it would be better than nothing, she needed sheets, maybe a barrel for a side table and mirror.

Teresa looked at Athe "I'll bring clean sheets and a blanket later, now we need barrels for the side tables, a mirror and breakfast is between six thirty and seven thirty, the bathroom is on the first floor, it has a cute thing with a tub you can't miss it." she was talking fast, real fast until she stopped to take a breath.

"oh! the back door is always open if you need anything, if you want to read there's a book shelf on the living room or you can go up to the attic to take the ones that are there but don't mind the mess." Teresa took another breath before turning to a bundle of hay.

"I know hay beds aren't that comfy but I'll try my best to make it warm . . . oh! I forgot, the barn doesn't have light so I'll bring candles and a box of matches later." she said before looking at Athe, waiting for him to agree or disagree with her.

For a moment, Athe didn't get much of a chance to get a word in, despite the fact that he rarely spoke anyways. Teresa seemed a little too excited about the matter. And, she seemed to worried about him too. Such luxuries weren't necessary to him.

Finally, he placed a large hand on Teresa's shoulder, hoping it would shut her up. With a slightly irritated look on his face, he kept his eyes closed as he spoke to her.

"Don't worry about it. It's fine as it is." In the end, as long as he didn't miss breakfast, Teresa wouldn't worry, and he would be fine. Besides, hay was much more comfortable than tree branches. A barn in general was warmer than a forest.

Teresa looked at him when he placed his hand on her shoulder "Sorry, I'm a little excited." she said while a light pink color filled her face. Teresa grabbed Athe's hand "Sorry, I just want you to feel good inside the barn since we don't have a spare room." she said with a embarrassed smile on her face for her excitement.

"So I'll shut up and I'll make things later, now let's eat, c'mon." she said walking to the barn's, this time not pulling Athe like she did before, trying to be less annoying "and I know you are probably uncomfortable with the situation but I hope that you like living here." she said walking to the back door.

After leaving Christopher entered the barn and saw Athe and assumed what his sister did "She's annoying but she means no harm, if she's annoying you tell her, she won't mind." he said before going up a ladder.

Athe's eye twitched slightly when Teresa touched his hand. It was so soft and warm compared to his. The twitch was slightly involuntary, and he hoped she hadn't noticed. If she did, Teresa said nothing about it, for she simply started walking back to the house. At least she didn't pull Athe along this time.

Taking a step towards the door, he saw one of the three brothers appear again. He listened intently to his advice, but simply nodded in response and continued through the barn door. Even Athe couldn't ever think of treating a lady like that. Only if it got out of hand in the future.
