AIVAS does not exist, and the dragons still fight thread. This is how it looks to always be, and why not! Dragons need this purpose, as it is proven many times over in history. Yet, it seems it is a waning threat, as the star passes once again - looming over us all. Thread falls, but clutches fluxuate, and mutations have been seen on our sands - female bronzes are just the start of it!
The great golden queen lies dead from a thread fall tragedy. She was not ignorant, for thread was not supposed to fall when she took to the skies, but she flew, and the weyr lost many. It was the first of many tragedies for the weyr. The death of many of their own - threadfall took one gold, assassinations took others. It seemed that everything is getting darker for Benecio, the weyr sinking into its darkest hours.
The rebellion that sprang from the very clutch of their great queen - lead by a killer obsidian-colored dragon - is thriving. Even when their leader was captured, their Command Second lead them in a mighty raid. It cost them their leader’s killer obsidian dragon, a heavy price to pay for their freedom. Their new leader, on a volatile copper dragon, has stepped up from his position as Second, determined to ensure that they thrive where others would have fallen. Despite rumors that his dragon is mad, he continues to press onwards. Whispers speak that he is willing to ally with an enemy of Benecio - to ally with the very Weyr he and his copper ran away from...
Due to Benecio's relaxed standard on tradition, they have fallen out of favor of many other weyrs. Their new Weyrwoman is not so forgiving of their liberal ways, but perhaps her presence will be what the weyr needs to regain favor with the other Weyrs - and the are thankful that she was able to transfer while their two golds are still immature, though only by months...
This is Benecio weyr. Choose your side, the lonely Benecio Weyr, fallen from favor with the rest of Pern, or the survivalist Onyx Rebellion, against all traditional hierarchy. Yet, even as these two factions battle, be aware of even greater dangers just beyond the horizon.
