Kirby was used to the idea of leaving his place to go out to places but to day was a bit different. Most of the time he avoided other people and today he was blatantly going to visit someone he really liked. Now certainly not more than a friend but definitely someone that he wanted to avoid hurting. That was always his problem. That and the fact that he really didn't know the feeling of anything beyond a lack of trust. But Rori seemed to be unique to him. She took an interest in him online and constantly spent time talking to him overnight and just kept him company despite her constant attempts to get him out of his shell. At least in his defense he had a good reason for wanting to keep her at a distance. But each time they spoke, she wore him down. And little by little he gave in, until today when he finally said yes. There were parts of him that were ready a while ago but he still doesn't have a complete grasp on his powers and is afraid to really put them to use. Other than the fact that he could make her disappear he was in good spirits. Again, Rori wasn't like anyone else that he knew. She was the opposite of the guy that Kirby was and didn't take any sort of shit. She was straightforward and told him that he was stupid straight to his face. Sure, he was good at hiding what he did and kept avoiding the serious questions, but he was sure that their relationship would change after today. She would pull him out over and over after this and he would be forced to constantly be on guard. He just knew that he needed someone to trust.

There was only so much of a relationship that you could honestly have with someone in a computer screen. He knew that he wanted a real friend and that was something that he hadn't had for a long time. There was a minor part of him that was screaming to the ignorant and retarded majority that was scared. First off, she was a girl, and she was willing to hang out with him. Second, she had never gotten him to the point of being angry so why would he ever wish for her to go away. But on the other hand there was always that chance. So yeah, he was always gonna be guarded and keep that wall. That was until Rori decided to burn it all away, literally. She was his biggest match and as he walked along the streets, steering clear of the people he didn't recognize, that was what he thought about. He was just wearing a regular t-shirt and a dusted-off pair of swimming trunks that he actually decided to buy a couple years back. He just flopped along the streets with the smacking of his flip flops against his heels ringing in his ears. Soon enough, he finally made it to the beach and figured that he was the first one. "I guess I'll just wait for her then." He said, hoping that he was making the right choice. In the end, it was just the fact that he thought too much about irrelevant things that stopped him from enjoying life. He had gone through too much and been used up too nothing and wanted to really seek out something real. Would he find that in Rori? Who knows...only time would tell.

the beach. oh the beach. rori seriously despised that place due to the fact that she was so close to a large body of water that could easily pull her in and drown her, for she wasn’t the best swimmer and she hated water. then again, she should’ve expected kirby to invite her there seeing that they were on an island and water covered them from all sides. still, rori wasn’t used to it. she usually kept to the center of the island and only came out a bit to either visit her friend dahlia, who swam almost twenty four seven, or possibly soak up a bit of sun- which was the only great thing about the beach. it was warm and sunny, but seeing that they were going in the afternoon, she knew it was going to be a bit chilly. thus, shifting through her room, rori pulled on a pair of jean shorts, a grey v neck and a black jacket. she was going nowhere near the water even if kirby begged and pleaded. he should just be happy she was going in the first place.

still, as much as she hated that watery hell hole, rori wanted to go for kirby, an internet friend of hers who she marked as one of those super shy people who needed to be social and learn to be a bit more confident so naturally, she bugged him each time they talked to step out and talk to people, get a few friends or do something outrageous and crazy. finally, she was able to get him out of the house, allowing rori a good reason to escape her room despite her mother’s fury. it was only misfortune that brought them to the beach. just suck it up, rori. it’s for him. she thought, setting up her bed with a row of round pillows under her blanket, and with that, she pulled the window open before leaping out into the bushes. ”shit.” she hissed as the branches poked at her skin and for a moment, she considered just burning the plant down, but seeing that rori was sneaking out, she thought against it and hushed her temper.

the beach wasn’t too far from her house. it was a good walk through the lower class neighborhood, which she knew they end up sooner or later. her mom was struggling with her job and with the economy sinking lower and rori still in high school, she knew they’d run out of money. adding to that, her mother spent money as if they were still part of the upper class on this island. thus, rori refused to spend any money on anything. thinking twice, she was a bit glad kirby decided to meet her at the beach. the place didn’t cost a thing opposed to a high class dinner and if kirby was one of those men who didn’t pay for the meal- which she doubted- rori would have no money to offer up and they’d have to make a break for it.

rori couldn’t help but hiss in disgust as the familiar salty smell of ocean water hit her nose. the light tan sand came into view and after a few moments of lingering upon the line between the parking lot asphalt and the sand, rori realized she didn’t know what kirby looked like. ”aww fuuuck.” she murmured out loud, running a hand through her bright red hair. pursing her lips, she sighed before taking in a deep breath and with that, she screamed, ”kiiiirbbbyyyyy! where are youuuuu?” she should’ve known better than to go out without a reference to what he looked like, but being a naturally laid back person, rori shrugged and slowly stepped onto the warm sand.

”hey do you know who kirby is? i think he’s sorta dorky, thin and a complete wuss.” rori asked, pulling a random beach-goer out of their previous conversation. ”do you know who gameman is?” she asked another. after a few more people with no answers, rori let out a frustrated sigh, a light flame flickering off her tongue to express her anger. ”kirby where the fuck are you?”

Kirby was more than content with just plopping against the sand and letting the sound of the ocean take over. He had to admit that it was a nice change of pace from staring at a computer screen all night. He just refused to say that Rori was right in him getting out. He was going to be as stubborn as ever and stick to his guns. There was honestly no reason for him to think otherwise right. She didn't have to know that she was right. And he certainly wasn't giving her that satisfaction. But as he sat there in the sand absorbing sun rays directly for the first time in weeks, he realized something. He didn't have a clue who he was looking for, or who would be looking for him. He and Rori almost made it an effort to not see who each other was and what they really looked like. "This is gonna be fun..." He said under his breath to himself. He knew that she would surface soon enough because there wasn't a huge draw for people at the beach. The majority of people stuck to the inner part of the island and thought that the beach was a bit too cliche considering they lived on an island all their life. But the beach was honestly one of the only places that Kirby didn't spend a lot of his time. Of course his pale skin would quickly let someone pick up on that.

Kirby just let out a deep breath as he looked out to see the sun resting in the horizon. It was getting later in the evening and he had already spent a good chunk of time waiting on her to get there. He knew that he came early but he wasn't quite sure how much time it was going to take for her to actually come. He knew there was late, but it seemed like she was pushing awfully close to the point of no return. He felt like he might just be getting ditched. But he had to give her the benefit of the doubt and understand that everyone she was looking at was a stranger. She had no clue what he looked like and that amused him. He couldn't wait to hear his name yelled out or hear some hysterical girl looking for him. He could easily peg Rori for that kind of girl. She was fearless. She also had her hot temper and he could only remain anonymous for so long. But he was going to take advantage of it for as long as he could. There was no shame in having a little fun from time to time anyway, and it wasn't at his expense, so no shame for him for sure. He just sat back and let his elbows lean against the warm sand as he looked about to see the crowds of people slowly disappear. It still seemed as though she wasn't coming, but he was never one to give up. If he was coming all the fucking way out here, he was going to meet up with her.

But soon enough, his prayers were answered as he heard a voice in the distance. It was his name being called out and little by little the woman got louder. She was just how she described her fire red hair and almost small to petite frame. He could tell just from her personality that it had to be Rori. She looked fearless. He just watched her for a while as she seemed to get more and more frustrated with where he was. He was being a bit mean, sure, but he didn't get this chance often. And he was going to leave a memorable first impression because he was never gonna live this one down. Sooner or later, she was standing within ten feet of him, her back turned as she asked "where the gameman was." He couldn't help but let a little chuckle out and say. "Hey now, I have a life behind video games..." He said, a large, dorky grin having grown from cheek to cheek. He was too lazy to stand as he just sat there waiting for the words to hit her ears. "If you are looking for a pink rubber, black hole bellied dude, you've come to the wrong place." He said, knowing it was a long winded, failed attempt at humor. "And its me Rori." He said, just being blunt, knowing that she was going to go on a blaze rampage if he didn't let on to who he was soon. He finally pried himself from the sand to sit up looking her way, the grin never leaving his expression, just waiting to see her turn and realize who she was looking at.

now rori’s anger was getting the best of her once again. hands starting to glow a light red and almost automatically, she glared down a little ten year old playing in the sand as if he was keeping kirby’s whereabouts a secret. she knew she was over reacting for honestly, the boy avoided people. she should’ve known none of them knew who he was. taking a deep breath, rori clenched her teeth, getting ready to burn down the boy’s little sandcastle when a voice caught her attention. she whipped around, eyes still dark and fuming with anger but then softened in confusion as she looked down at the boy in the sand. she doubted that it was really kirby until he cracked some lame joke that rori honestly didn’t understand. as he confirmed the fact that he was kirby, a faint smile danced across her lips and with a light laugh, she kicked a bit of sand onto his chest.

”lazy ass. that’s no way to greet a friend!” rori growled playfully, referring to the fact that he was sitting on the ground like he expected her to crouch down to hug or greet him. hopefully he’d get the message and get up for she wasn’t going to get down on all fours for him. however, rori couldn’t help but smile as she glanced down at him. kirby was just as she expected him to be. tall, lanky with brown hair and skin as pale as hers though his expression was soft and gentle, which rori found as a refreshing change opposed to the other boys she picked fights with like roman. men like him wore scowls on their faces being parsimonious and snippy as they were while kirby wore an adorable grin that rori couldn’t help but grin back at.

”now, are you going to get up and give me a hug or do i have to bake you in that sand?” rori threatened, a mischievous grin swiping across her face. rori would use her powers if she possibly had to. she was the kind of person who didn’t care all too much when it came to what she did with her powers. if her powers hurt others then they hurt others. they probably deserved it anyway and unless she specifically cared about a certain person so much that she would suppress her powers, they pretty much had free reign, burning things here and there at will. ”and just cause im a woman, im not getting on my knees for you.” she finished, laughing at her dry humor.

shaking her head, rori ran another hand through her hair, eyes glancing back at the water. a shiver ran down her back as if a giant wave could wash over them any minute. she knew it was absolutely ridiculous and could never happen any time soon especially with a clear sky like this one, but something in the back of her head just told her to keep away, warning her of the water’s dangers. calm down, rori. she firmly told herself as her hands began heating up again as if preparing for the bombarding waters that would never come. shaking her head again, she looked down at kirby, trying to calm her nerves.
