Finished Dance With Dragons over the weekend. Really, really enjoyed it. After the quasi-disappointment of my first reading of the last one (but not as much on my re-read), Dance turned out quite awesome in my opinion. Some really gripping stuff, some strange scenarios for some of our favorites, and quite literally a chapter near the end that had me get goosebumps with excitement about two pages before Mr. Martin ripped my heart out of my chest and did a little jig on it knowing I'd have to wait Lord knows how long to see the fate of one of my favorites.

Just finished Dance With Dragons. Fortunately, I was able to read Feast of Crows and Dance With Dragons back to back so it made it much easier than it must have been for the rest of you who were on the bandwagon long before I was and had to wait. It probably would have seemed pretty disjointed.

As to your post... Agreed, Blue. I'm really, really hoping that the not-to-be-named favorite is still upright five years from now when the next book comes out. I'm also interested to see where this is going with Arya (Or, No One, depending on how you look at it) as well and how it'll work out when Daenerys and Young Griff find out about each other.

I really love how this book puts everyone in an almost "tweener" role (well, save Cersei and Ramsay I guess), with very few "faces" and "heels". Jaime, I think, is a perfect example. I hated that dude for the first few books and now he's one of my favorites as I think he's pretty misunderstood.

Now let's see if Martin can put something together before I turn 40.

I'm not denying the brutality, or the body count, but in terms of main credit (TV show) cast, or POV (book chapters) characters that die? At most, we'll lose a handful of supporting cast members and a number of extras.

I still expect the blood to flow, especially what Cat does, including to herself, and there'll be a major body count and I hope they render a good version of the Rains of Castamere. And, like I said, it's a gamechanging event. But, you know, it's hardly half the cast; so numerous the characters created by G.R.R. Martin.

And, come on, Lady Stoneheart!

EDIT: In fact, I can see why they'd want to take a step back and take a second look at how to proceed with the seasons after RW, especially considering how extensive the story grows. And there's also the way Feast for Crows and Dance with Dragons are constructed.

Uhhh...you want to re-read that bit, I think.

I recall it being pretty brutal.

Off goes half the cast.

Yes. And no.

In that, it's a game-changing event, but I don't think too many major characters die.

Guess we're not getting Ecclestone as Stannis. Instead, Stephen Dillane's been cast for that role, with Liam Cunningham to play Davos. Also, at 6' 3", Gwendoline Christie's got the height to play the Maid of Tarth. Still pretty hot, though, if I may say so myself. Dutch actress, Carice Van Houten, as Melisandre is an interesting choice...

Game of Thrones' executive producer David Benioff has revealed that the show will begin to change from George R R Martin's books in the third season.

Speaking at Comic-Con, Benioff explained that the third novel is too large to cover in one season.

"If we're lucky enough, if we have a season three, that's when it will start not corresponding so neatly to the books because Storm of Swords is too big to do as one season," he said.

"Our hope has always been that we can keep this alive somehow. There's a certain scene - I'm not even going to say the name of the scene because the name itself is a spoiler... Let's call it 'RW'. We've always felt that if we can get to 'RW', then we've accomplished something."

Martin added that he does not want to watch 'RW' on the television as it was so disturbing to write, saying: "When they film it and show it, I'm going to try to arrange to be out of the country during that period and some place that doesn't actually have television yet."

Oh yeah, shit's gonna be really hitting the fan with RW.

For those reading the books, how's everyone finding A Dance with Dragons so far?

I'm on Storm of Swords right now and now I'm all eager to blow through the book to see what "RW" is. Nobody will notice me with my Kindle at my desk...

Not sure if the term for which "RW" stands for is used in SoS, or if it's only referred to as such in Feast for Crows, but I guess you'll figure it out by the general horribleness of the situation.

***STORM OF SWORDS SPOILER ALERT***

***LAST WARNING***

I think he's referring to Red Wedding. And yeah, I'm not sure how they're going to pull that off. Off goes half the cast.

Any excuse to add Christopher Eccleston or Ian McShane to this case would be awesome.

Happy birthday!
