Title: SPECIAL ULTRATITLE TOURNAMENT
Hopper - April 14, 2012 01:18 PM (GMT)
I'm not sure if this has been touted here at all or not....
But there is a tournament that includes several circles....and it is a straight roleplay tournament. I found this out during a radio show I was on Friday.
They have 89 in right now and are lookign to get to 128 by tomorrow night....inthis tournament from JTF feds already are....
Chad Allen
Derek Martin
I'm in the ACW (an angle fed) right now....but wanted to reach out and get more of the handlers here involved....
Here is the link...

Because of the differences in circles, I'd guess a JTF guy has a pretty small chance of actually winning the tourney since people judge RPs differently. Not a shot on them though... the best guys in their circle probably wouldn't win a JTF tournament that included guys like Vasquez and Martinez and Monosso and Hayes either, and I'd imagine Martin would do better in a JTF tourney than he would in this tourney. A panel set up here would judge RPs differently than they would as well.
That said... it seems like a great way to advertise our circle to handlers outside the circle. We can't rely on the old RSPWF crew forever. I may add a character to the tourney just for that purpose... even one or two contacts from another circle couldn't hurt.
And I admit I'd love to see someone like Jer or Terry or Dave try to make a legit run through the thing, just for the hell of it.

we did another podcast with the guy running it......and he runs an RP-based league (competition and not angle-driven)....they have numerous judges for it and it is a committee thing for each.
From what I have seen and heard.....if there was a tourney that coudl happen to truly compete circle VS circle.....this is the most "up-and-up" one I have seen. Chad is a really solid guy running it (and he is not handling a character in it either)
Hopper - April 14, 2012 10:55 PM (GMT)
On oen of our podcasts about the tourney, I gave a list of 5 characters I wanted to see from JTF in this for pure competition...
Alex Martinez
Doc Holiday
Juan Vasquez
Sean Darring
Sammy Knight
I know Will (Knight) has done massive tournies before and done well.
These will have written matches as well....not just naming a winner or summary....but commentary matches

| Which David? |
I meant Garcia... I thought about you when I typed that, but I wasn't sure this was quite your cup of tea. Besides, Gibson would go right over the heads of some readers who never heard of him... either Martinez would be a more readily-defined character for an unfamiliar reader in a one-time event.
Dr. Baad, however... that I could see being fun.
You should join it with Dr. Baad, then do a PickyCast for each round of the tourney and post it over there. I wanna see the reaction when you first go Fontana on one of their characters. Maybe not the best strategy for unifying the circles... but totally worth it.
Neige13 - April 15, 2012 04:05 AM (GMT)
I saw the Native American All American Alexander Hayes and just thought it was just a different Hayes cousin I hadn't heard about.
Picky - April 15, 2012 08:37 AM (GMT)
Damn it, there is no relation between any Hayes.
Yeah, Gibson isn't easy to jump into (actually, I can't think of any of my characters that is too easy to get into) but I did think about using Dr. Baad since I have a soft spot for the fella.

I've RP'ed in those feds before and done well. In fact, FWCentral grew out of the Prodigy Classic leagues, where I got my start.
That was the main reason I entered -- figured it would be fun to see some of the folks I used to RP against and see how things go.
Hopper - April 15, 2012 07:21 PM (GMT)
sign-up deadline is today.
field is 93 and growing....
Hopper - April 16, 2012 11:07 AM (GMT)
Not sure if they have cut off or not.....but as of last nigt at 11:30 pm
105 entrants
and I noticed "RSO" Frank Wilkes is now in the frey.....
Any others from here going to show up?

The first Bracket (Region) of the Ultra Title Tournament had its first round released this evening....
"Jester" Chad Allen picked up a round one victory over Tarrasque and advances to the round of 64.
Congrats Chad
ShaunSindelman - May 4, 2012 03:23 PM (GMT)
Don't forget Marcus Davis advancing as well. =)

And that was considered an massive upset as Kin "Muffin Man" Hiroshi supposedly was the circle's pick in that match....
Great work Walter.
Walter has another character in bracket 4

IPW's Freddie Sagawa, I presume?
Hopper - May 4, 2012 09:12 PM (GMT)
No....That is Eibach
I believe he has Kiyamori or something like that. He faces a character with the nickname "The Dragon"
Flouzemaker - May 4, 2012 10:58 PM (GMT)
Ah.
Shows you what I know.
(Fact remains that Sagawa is currently in IPW)

Ahhh.....now I didn't know that.
ShaunSindelman - May 8, 2012 05:43 AM (GMT)
Congrats to Chris Hopper for advancing to the 2nd round.
Unfortunately, Spooky Doom advanced as well.

Congrats to Chris Hopper for advancing to the 2nd round.
Unfortunately, Spooky Doom advanced as well. |
He did have a jobber match, so that was inevitable.
His next opponent is OK, but he ought to win there too.
Mine defeated Bob Morris' Derek Martin character.....so it will be tough
Hopper - May 10, 2012 11:47 AM (GMT)
Walter picked up another win with his Kiyomori character in a Bracket 3 Rd 1 upset.
TheFlodaddy - May 15, 2012 10:10 PM (GMT)
I refuse to acknowledge any tournament where the muffin man loses as a legitamate organization.
Hopper - May 24, 2012 04:07 PM (GMT)
Hopper advances to the 3rd round and will be one of the last 32 left in the 128-man tournament.
He will face "Suite" Pete Whealdon in a match to air in a couple of weeks
pretty fun.
Spooky Doom, Spike Saunders and others also picked up victories....
Marcus Davis was defeated in a close contest by 2-time former UltraTitle winner Joey Melton. (I actually felt that Walter did enough to win, but his opponent had the veteran with former winner cred on his side)
Chad Allen also lost, but because Chad didn't show up in Rd 2 at all.

Has the ULTRATITLE Tournament adversely effected any of the JTF Squaretable affiliated e-feds or handlers at all?
Just curious.
Hopper - June 7, 2012 12:27 AM (GMT)
There weren't many form this circle who were in it really...
Chad Allen disappeared and Spooky is.....well I'm not sure he is in a JTF fed after he left SPW
So I doutb it has effected anything. Any delays here are status quo.... :-)

Never let a good scapegoat go to waste!
Overly_Critical_Jue - June 7, 2012 06:01 PM (GMT)
This tourney killed PVW and IPW. A pox on you all, tourney organizers!
sychosys - June 7, 2012 10:55 PM (GMT)
Everyone must be writing stuff for Blue's tournament. His master plan to sweep the Squaretablies has come to fruition!
Scumsucker - August 11, 2012 03:27 AM (GMT)
And what a strange world it is, that the notorious flaky John Eibach actually made it to the Final 8 of the UltraTitle Tournament before losing.
Heh ...
