I refuse to let that retarded spammer bump this off the newest reply status.
RCW FOREVER MOTHERF'ERS
ProfessorDoran - April 30, 2010 12:36 PM (GMT)
We need the original Glory! The most controversial night in RCW history!

So what's the story on that?
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 19, 2010 05:27 PM (GMT)
It's the "Dan Kauffman wins the title for no apparent reason" incident. Possibly the most maligned booking decision in RCW history.
ProfessorDoran - May 19, 2010 05:34 PM (GMT)
It's fair to say the idea behind it did not match the stratting of certain handlers...
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 19, 2010 05:36 PM (GMT)
Here's the summary from another thread:
| QUOTE |
The only thing that could've saved that Dan Kauffman thing was...
...well, nothing could.
It made no damn sense and no one in the fed except Andy liked Kauffman at the time. Kauffman was feuding with Luke Kinsey at the time and Devon Case was in the middle of a world title feud with JEALOUS Alex Extreme(the greatest Alex Extreme of them all!).
Even worse, I was in the middle of a Vasquez/Madison J Valentine feud at the time over the Gateway title and ended up being collateral damage in this mess.
So what happened?
Kauffman wins the freakin' Gateway title the show before the ppv. That pretty much killed the heat for my feud. I was okay with it, I guess. Even though I had no idea why the Kinsey/Kauffman feud needed MY title included in it to make it any more important.
Then Kauffman goes off and fights Devon Case after he was in some 10000kb epic with Alex Extreme. Well...so much for Alex Extreme's heat. Hell, so much for Devon Case's and Luke Kinsey's. So much for Juan Vasquez's and MJV's too! You've all just been punked by Dan Kauffman.
End result? Dan Kauffman has both top titles in the fed and he's some unbeatable monster.
I know the justification was that Kauffman had some standing feud with Devon Case that absolutely NOBODY knew about up until Kauffman said so in an in-ring, but man...talk about something that killed a fed's momentum. Kauffman up until that point, had been feuding with Kinsey for the better part of 6 months with no end in sight.
|
And here's Andy's take on it...
| QUOTE |
The problem vis a vis the Kauffman thing was the execution of it all. As I remember it, the original plan that Fletch and I drew up was Kauffman and Case having a 5 minute match that ended in a double pin. German suplex with both sets of shoulders on the mat, botched roll up, something to give us a good reason to throw the match out. We wanted to move RCW up to World title status, and wanted to have a tournament for it. So, rather than to crown Dan Kauffman king of the world, the point was to have a Dusty finish, throw everything out and hold a tournament for the new world title. Didn't work out that way because someone stratted to win clean after a DDT and Fletch was under such pressure to get it out in a timely fashion that he most likely forgot.

StevieScott - May 19, 2010 05:48 PM (GMT)
Unrelated note: I forgot I was even in RCW, much less jobbing to Langseth on that card. Must have been one of the times where I quit doing anything e-w related while still being on a roster.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 19, 2010 05:58 PM (GMT)
Adam Rogers could've stopped Kauffman from killing RCW's momentum if he was only paying attention. I blame YOU, John! YOU!

Sounds good to me.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 19, 2010 07:35 PM (GMT)
It'll be duly noted when I write up the history of RCW on the wiki.
ProfessorDoran - May 19, 2010 08:38 PM (GMT)
What thread are you getting this from? I remember responding to it, I just don't know which one it is!
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 19, 2010 08:59 PM (GMT)
Booking decisions as a fedhead or something.
The one where John K apologized for the screwy booking of the nUWF in its dying days.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 20, 2010 11:39 PM (GMT)
So, I went and reread it.
And hot damn, I raged.
Kauffman's promo to set-up that match effectively buried everyone in the promotion.
Oh god, oh god...this is worse than I remembered...
ProfessorDoran - May 21, 2010 12:54 AM (GMT)
I dunno man, aside from that minor incident, GLORY is one of the most perfect PPVs ever put out in e-w.
Which is like saying, aside from the gunshot how did you enjoy the play, Mrs. Lincoln, I know.
NotFlowers'Computer - May 21, 2010 01:02 AM (GMT)
Dan Kaufman once attended a college party I was at, true story. Thus inhibiting me with a fear of this whole thing crossing over to my real life. So, what I'm saying is.. we can pretty much blame Dan Kaufman for everything. Even outside of the e-world.
True story, btw.
Can somebody explain his spectacular run wherever he was, btw? I never "got it".
NotFlowers'Comp - May 21, 2010 01:04 AM (GMT)
Wow... I used "btw" there a lot.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 21, 2010 01:43 AM (GMT)
It was about early 2000, when Andy came up with this brilliant scheme to bring Dan Kauffman into RCW, so he started praising and campaigning for him on RSPWF like some crazy mark.
So...Kauffman shows up in RCW. A feud with Luke Kinsey quickly develops. The feud is pretty heated and Kauffman's work is better than it's probably been in years. Really, credit to Dan for being super motivated for that run. Anyhow, RCW was on something of a hot streak as everything in the fed starts coming together. A great top champ in Devon Case, entertaining feuds all around and all that.
Going into "Glory", Kauffman vs Kinsey was the "hot" feud and Extreme vs Case was a title match feud that probably exceeded all expectations. Then the Glory ppv card goes down and everything I described above happens.
Kauffman had an issue with Case? What? Kinsey doesn't matter??? Huh? WAIT...did you just bury the entire fed in that promo!?!?
Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa??????
Everything that was clicking so well beforehand, suddenly wasn't running so smoothly anymore as what was perceived as an inexplicable Kauffman "Jesus push" jumbled up about 90% of everything else going on at the time. It took a while for the whole fed to right the ship.
I know the idea was to turn the national title into a world title, but the whole execution was botched in such a way that it actually harmed the fed. It was that clunky.
But yes, for a time, Dan Kauffman was a-okay.
ProfessorDoran - May 21, 2010 02:14 AM (GMT)
Timeline's off.
In early 2000, I was filling out a TNM app for HIWF and putting together a post-prom party. If I recall correctly, Dan came aboard because he and Mike wanted to work together. Devon Case was totally the hot character at the time and was kicking ass in the E and in RCW. They concocted some feud based on Case holding a birthday party for Kauffman's dead wife at her grave, with Case being all psycho heel and revealing that his wife was cheating on him, etc. Why they chose RCW, I don't know, but they did. Remember, Fletch came back online in August of 2001, right before 9/11. I'm guessing Dan and Mike probably came up with the angle in the summer. I got on board in my menial role as VP/match writing guru because RCW was about to explode, and an IIWF "legend" coming to town would be a good thing.
To get Dan ready, he and I feuded and put together a feud that, I think, still holds up. Kauffman's the returning legend who thinks he's above everyone, Kinsey's the up and comer who wants to be the man... it fit. What was meant to be a time wasting feud actually turned out to be as strong as any program RCW had ever seen, and shot up to semi-main. Fletch felt that his two top feuds should be for titles, hence Kauffman's win over Vasquez (sorry dude).
With RCW on pay per view, we wanted to upgrade to a World title while at the same time running the Case-Kauffman feud. So after Case's awesome win over Alex Extreme, the plan was for Kauffman to challenge for an impromptu match that was never official and the match ending in controversial fashion, so that there was no doubt the result had to be thrown out and giving us a window to create the world title.
Dan stratted to win clean with a DDT, in a pinch Fletch went with it and the best laid plans of mice and men, blah blah blah.
Good idea, bad execution. But other than that little blip that would end up being a footnote anyway, Glory is one of the best shows I've ever read. Rembrandt cripples Eddie McIntyre, Chris Courtade retires Ken Curtis, a three way LHW match of the year, the infamous dance off with MJV and Juan Vasquez, the highly underrated Culture Jam regain their tag titles, Kinsey and Kauffman blow off the feud of the year, and Devon Case closes down the show with a classic win over an RCW all-timer.
GET (re-)HYPE!
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 21, 2010 02:44 AM (GMT)
The timeline's still off.
The Case birthday party thing came AFTER Glory, I'm pretty sure of it.
Fletchanator - May 21, 2010 05:29 AM (GMT)
About time for me to wade in on this I suppose.
My memory's pretty bad, but I do remember two things:
a) Andy was the main driving force behind Kauffman getting uber-pushed.
b) I screwed up the execution of the end of Glory. Either I didn't fully comprehend how it was supposed to go down or I just messed it up during the matchwriting. Either way, it was on me.
So yeah, I guess Andy and I are jointly to blame. And Kauffman if he stratted differently than what we'd agreed to, I suppose.
But hey, if the WWE can edit Chris Benoit out of all of its DVDs, RCW can release a new edition of Glory with the ending missing, right? :)

Who? What? Huh?
...it must not be important.
So, what you should do is edit in Tommy Stephens instead.

This is the third time we've talked about this on JTF, by the way. It deserves it's own FAQ.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 21, 2010 04:08 PM (GMT)
I should punch Doran in the nuts for wanting a Dan Kauffman push.
And there was no reason he should've had the River City title. NONE! That feud didn't need it at all!
Then he goes and buries the title at the ppv!
:chairbash: :chairbash: :chairbash:
When that RCW wiki page goes up...this part of history disappears forever!!!!!

On a totally different note, I'm re-reading Caged Rage 3, and this little bit at the end of the match has me cracking up. After Magnus Colby offers Marc Gioffre money as he entered the ring to start the match, he loses to MJV. Afterward...
[Colby gets up in the ring, looking extremely groggy as Marc Gioffre helps him back up. He suddenly snaps to attention and drops Gioffre with a vicious headbutt! HEEL POP!]
RP: Holy crap!
LVK: What did he do THAT for!?
[Colby sticks his hand into Gioffre's shirt pocket and pulls out the roll of hundreds
he had placed in Gioffre's pocket at the beginning of the match, before exiting the ring to the jeers of the crowd.]
LVK: What a scumbag!
RP: Yeah, screw you, Gioffre!
LVK: *Sigh*
HAHAHAHA! That's an awesome little moment.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 22, 2010 02:50 AM (GMT)
I remember writing that match and really wanting to put Magnus Colby as a top heel for some reason, so I threw in that dickish moment. Maybe some day I'll write another match with the desire to make both guys look good!
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 25, 2010 04:20 PM (GMT)
NEVER WILL RIP CITY RIPOFF...the FAKE RCW, ever ever ever be on top of the updated pages list!
RIVER CITY FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ProfessorDoran - May 25, 2010 05:35 PM (GMT)
I prefer to remember it as the River City Juggernaut.

When did we ever call it that?
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 25, 2010 11:26 PM (GMT)
BTW, if anyone out there's got a copy of the original Maximum Risk supercard(feat. Alex Extreme vs Johnny Axis for the national title), it'd be greatly appreciated.
I'd gladly trade you a copy of the ultra rare Law and Order supercard featuring Vlad Stukovski vs. Eric Vanguard~!

It didn't.

Damn you Doran, you're the worst VP since the time I was VP of GIW.
ProfessorDoran - May 27, 2010 06:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but I rebuilt the tag division and wrote an Unholy War. Therefore, Me VP >>> You VP.
Frankly, the Unholy War might be the gem of that whole card. Forget the 3 all time great matches Fletch wrote... it was the return of TLM that stole the show.

I don't think you understand what the word "worst" means.
And I wrote about 90% of the tag matches in RCW history. I SCOFF at your puny efforts. Try to make Rick Sly and the Monster look good! That takes effort beyond mortal comprehension!

I was just stating my case for not being the worst.
Overly_Critical_Jue - May 27, 2010 06:25 PM (GMT)
I think it's pretty obvious that I'm the worst. I couldn't even parlay my VPing into Kendrick Lane winning any matches.
Overly_Critical_Jue - June 1, 2010 09:13 AM (GMT)
I really wish Joe Petrow would stop spamming this section. Spreadsbury is gone. But Fletcha is still here to defer all RCW trivia to me or Andy!
