I know most peoples around here have little faith in them, others just plainly hate them. Besides, some just blame FFs from replacing FRs, yet many of the cheap sport cars have been replaced by SUVs, wich are FAR worst in my opinion...
Another sad thing aside the poor reputation of FFs is there are very few places where you can learn about advanced FFs driving techniques. I had to look for a while on the net to find them (was at Drivingtechniques.co.uk, now dead link), most sites not even bothering, some almost claiming the only one is the hand brake turn... .......... So here the ones i do know : Left foot braking Lift off oversteer trail braking (or delayed braking) Hand brake turn Powerslide Feint Pendulum Scandinavian flick One thing i find puzzling is the claim FF can powerslide easily... Might be true on heavily race modified ones, but on thoses i owned or driven, turn too quickly or put too much power while cornering and they loose traction, going forward despite the wheels fully turned. Doing a powerslide does require some technique as far as i am concerned. Left foot braking is a powerful technique, and has multiple uses besides racing at high speed. For exemple, in the snow or ice or any low traction surface, applying the brakes while attempting to accelerate prevent the wheels from spinning. But so few FFs drivers are aware of this and just curse their cars when they start to accelerate sideway instead of forward... Engine braking is also a strong ally of the FFs as it can allow the car to oversteer, but also as it can be used as antilock brakes. As long as the engine don't stall, the front wheels can't lock under the braking, fairly useful when you have weak brakes or very bad tyres. Let's see where this will lead to. I hope this won't lead to flames or bring back the "FFs can't drift" debates (please don't |

In the small sport coupe class(EG6's) FF's are actually faster and can outmanuver FR's. However, they can't hang ove a longer period of time for the simple fact that the Front tires are doing all the work.
I actually like FF and have a lot of fun driving them. I'm probably going to buy another one....RSX-S B) |

Honda's do own. Just look at the touring races. The Realtime Racing team wins so many of them it's not funny. They only drive honda's.

Of course Front wheel drive vehicles can drift, it may not be as varied in technique as RWD, but it can certainly drift. My friend AutoX's a FF Golf, its a great car, the FF's work very well in tight corners like that. And with his tires, he does occasionally lose his gripping power.
Honda's the "Pretty Boy" of the industry? Thats certainly the first time I've ever heard it called that... what's the resoning behind that? It really doesnt make much sense. Meh, well if thats the case, you may be interested to know that Toyota has cut production of its Celica's and MR2's.
Its the driver, not the car, I've seen a Cavalier AutoX, and I've seen much worse race as well, and still get amazing times (my bro raced a stock aveo, you cant get much worse than that) |

Really? no more celica's? ANd I know it's the driver. When I took my stock cavy to the track I was able to hang with miatas in the twisty's so I'm a halfway decent driver of a semi decent car! LOL  |

Uh...ok. well I'm all about the Integra/RSX and of course the NSX. Civics are generally weak unless severely modded. Integra's on teh other hand have an incredible power to weight ratio(better then S2000) and can become excellent track and road race cars.

I tried drifting in my FF Honda Acord and when u try to drift it doesn't really work on a few ocasions it would be awsome but i would have to Feint drift but i would be the coolest cause there was barely and counter steer envoled but i mainly think this car is for grip and relys heavly on ur brakes and ur E-brake those have very important when trying to drift in a FF. :Vroom:

To answer to the original post, yes...FF cars can drift. ANY car can drift as long as it has four wheels...only difference is the way in which they can drift. Although yes, FR DO drift easier, and tire wear is distributed more evenly across four tires, and they provide a bit of control, but don't discount the FF
Personally...I'm not a Honda/Acura fan. I love the RSX-S and the NSX (HEAVILY overpriced for a honda though...), and the EK9s, but other than that...not a fan. Not so much that I hate civics (which i kinda do), but more the fact that I do NOT want to align myself with things like Civic Nation and such. Around the area I live in down here in California, the vast majority of Civic "racers" are assholes...and idiots...and I mean that in the meanest way possible  They spend $300 to put on an exhauast and they think they're God's gift to racing...and they think they've gained bragging rights just because you slap on a tailpipe...shameful. What's even worse is that they don't even KNOW what the part does...they just put it on because people tell them too, and it sounds cool  And don't even get me STARTED on people who do upgrades to a BRAND NEW CAR before they've even driven a couple hundred miles on it. |
