The roar of the crowd was almost mind numbing as Elwise walked into the open grounds of the arena. The Colosseum was nearly filled with spectators who had come to witness the tournament, and Elwise had been chosen as a participating representative of Arcane University. The other competitors were mages from the University, Knights from the Army, Clergy from the Church, Nobles seeking acclaim, and Freelancers looking to make a few rupees. As the arcanist entered the dirt field of the amphitheather, he had no idea who he would be facing off against in this semi-final round of the tournament, but he clutched the bronze wizard staff Heimdall in his right hand and strode proudly into the view of the crowd.

Looking to the east, he saw his challenger approaching, and the mage began to search the energies around him in an attempt to Scry out the coming events. He saw what seemed to be quite an eventful match, but he could not place his finger on the identity of his opponent. The mana around him was surging from the adeptness of the mage and his opponent, as well as the fervor of the crowd, but whoever it was the mage was going to be prepared for them. The mage raised the staff above his head, and lightning surged around him. The electrical energies condensed into an orb that began to revolve around the mage. The lightning would serve as a shield to keep physical opponents at bay while conducting opposing spells safely away from the scholar. It was an excellent defense for the start of the match, and it would give Elwise time to learn more about the fight by observing his foe's movements. However, before he could even make out said opponent, the announcer with his voice enhanced by magic declared, "Let the battle begin!"

((OoC: Won't let me post anywhere in this forum/thread as anything but my mod account :/))

The crowd around had grown anxious and loud, which in turn threatened Morgana with a headache. She had forgotten why exactly she had come here …to the arena… After all, she didn’t care much for show-fighting. Taking her time, she sauntered toward the battlefield all the while questioning herself. The druid coughed and winced a bit as she got closer. Something had stirred up the dust and she could hear the distinct crackle of electricity up ahead. Looking into the stands, Morgana sighed heavily as she remembered why she had entered this thing: to show the knights what she could and could not do. It was her and Selkie’s luck that two of the guards had thought them worthy to join the ranks of the Knights of Hyrule, but in order to prove so to their comrades, the two men had suggested that the girls enter the competition.

Hesitantly, she edged forward until her opponent was in clear view. Morgana, using her so-called “nature” magic, summoned a few thorny vines which began to swirl around her as a sort of protective barrier. The young woman groaned as she noticed the man had an energy shield as well—one of lighting it looked like. Dipping her head in a short prayer to the Goddesses, the Druid flipped back the hood of her cloak and tried to prepare herself. She placed a hand to her hip, clutching at the jeweled dagger her brother had given her. Morgana didn’t want to get up close and personal with her opponent, in fact, due to her physical weaknesses, she preferred to remain at a distance and cast from there. That is not to say, however, that she was afraid of throwing her weight around if she needed to.

Her eyes widened in surprise as the announcer shouted for the fight to begin. Letting out a small squeak-like noise, she nearly froze, unsure of what to do. However, after overcoming her initial shock, she commanded the earth under the mage to move upward under his feet. The rock and dirt, like thick javelins, burst forth and began to move up and down rapidly, as if trying to pierce their target multiple times in whatever area they could. Again, the Druid bent the earth to her will, but this time, it rose as a thick shield in front of her to protect from any counter spells or physical attacks from the front.

Elwise caught sight of Morgana's vines, and he prepared for an attack. The girl was undoubtably skilled, but Elwise was a master of the arcane who knew not only the technical aspects of magic, but the theoretical. The wizard knew how to create new spells should the occasion arise. Now of course was no time for spell inventing, but with that knowledge, Elwise had several custom abilities that suited his own style of combat.

Before he could unleash an attack of his own, the wizard was faced with a barrage of rock lances that were rather clumsily thrown at him. "Protega Maxima!" He pronounced, and a dome of light before him rendered the assailing lances harmless, transmuting earth into harmless air. When his barrier dispelled, Elwise saw Morgana had erected her own of earth. His lightning skills would be grounded by her control of the earth, so the academic would have to rely on his mastery of radiant energy. Perhaps he should show Morgana just how powerful photons could be, a physics lesson was in order.

Elwise grasp the end of Heimdall which was significantly thinner than the rest of the shaft of his staff for just such an occasion. He swung his crosier about his head rapidly with the magic crystal projecting and cutting the boundary of a magic circle on the ground about him. The markings of the interior the circle completed themselves in the instant the boundary was finished, and radiant energy began to gather in Heimdall's crystal. Elwise made three very quick revolutions then declared, "Sumbol Luciem Equestras!" He swung Heimdall the final time like a club and unleashed a massive burst of light energy. The neighing of a horse resounded throughout the arena as the light took the form of a horse, shaking its mane of light as it charged towards Morgana's rock wall. The collision released a blinding light, shattered the edifice, and showered Morgana with rocks large and small.

((OoC: The lances weren’t “thrown”. They punched up from the ground at him. Just saying))

Morgana remained behind her earthen barrier, frowning to herself as she heard the man call out his spells. Though he may be powerful, she thought it a bit stupid that one would announce their attacks in such a manner, not to mention it all seemed a bit cliché. Though it did not truly affect her, casting spells in such a manner did irk her to some extent because she just thought it was really annoying. However, at least she would know when some things were about to happen—that was one benefit.

Peaking behind her barrier, she watched as the man transmuted her attack into nothingness, but he had left his guard down after that as he began to summon, what she supposed had something to do with, a horse made of light. Though she was not as “schooled” as the mage, she did have some knowledge of the old arcane languages and was able to pick words and phrases out here and there. It may be advantageous for her to apply such knowledge, if, of course, she didn’t get too caught up and remembered to do so throughout the course of the battle.

Though her first attack had apparently been overcome, she used it to her advantage. As the mage worked on summoning his horse, Morgana took control of the air surrounding the mage. It did not attack him, but instead, it collided with the ground and began to stir up an abundance of dirt and sand, which created yet another shield. This one, however, affected both parties’ range of vision as it began to spread out into the arena. As the sand whipped about them, more air had begun to form miniature twisters which in turn picked up and hurled rocks in whatever direction they fancied.

That was all Morgana had been able to cast as the solar horse collided with her own barrier. Instinctly, she slammed her eyes shut as the steed approached, but its luminous explosion still managed to leave her seeing some black spots when she finally opened her eyes. Having been knocked down, and after a few rocks had managed to successfully bounce off her noggin, she decided that she was officially pissed off. Under the cover of her artificial sandstorm, she rose onto her hands and knees and pressed her hands into the earth. Several figures rose from the ground, each in the guise of her own body form, and began to move toward the man. They would not attack, but due to the sandstorm’s affect on vision, as their blurred, shadowed figures moved about him, it would appear that Morgana had somehow managed to clone herself.

Transfiguring into her animal form, Morgana decided that it may be best to try melee for a while rather than attempt to match the man’s magical prowess. Slinking along the outer edges of the arena, far from where the two opponents had been standing and casting their spells, she waited. Her large ears twitched to and fro as she tried to decipher any noise apart from the howling wind. The Druid would wait until her opponent gave away his location before she leapt back into the battle. It was, after all, better than blindly and foolishly trying to look for the mage in the midst of the storm. She was in no hurry. She could wait all day if she needed to.
