Here is some of it as I have not collected all the evidence in the book, just general information I remember.


I think RAB is Rufus Scrimgeour, the new minister of magic. Now, I know his last name starts with an "S" but it could be an alias or a working name, or his mother's maiden name,

Now, as we all know, Rufus was an auror, which means he knows how to track dark wizards, and knows a decent amount of magic.

Think back to the Christmas chapter in HBP. Rufus talks to Harry about the rumors flying around that he heard. Why would he take more interest in it than most? One is obviously because he is the minister, and the other, he heard part of the prophecy himself. He was an auror which means he had to track Death Eaters. He was mostlikely trailing Severus, and heard the portion he gave to Voldemort. And when he heard the rumors, he put two and two together.

Now, Rufus has a limp. Now, we don't know much about his past, but I am assuming he did not get caught in a bad spot in a duel, otherwise he would not be minister. I am assuming that he went to get that locket, and he had to go through the trials, and during it, he got attacked by the flamin corpses. Being an auror, and now minister, he has to know a fair amount of magic, and he could easily have been the one to get the locket first. He could have ben spying on Snape when he was working at Hogwarts, and when Snape talked to Voldemort, Voldemort let slip the location of one of his horcruxes.

Voldemort is powerful, and he probably knew the person was there. But at the same time he did nothing, thinking that the person would die in trying to get at it. but he was wrong.

Wow. You've got a lot of supporting details there... Although, telling somebody about his horcruxes, doesn't exactly sound like something Voldemort would do. That aside, it seems that Rufus could possibly be R.A.B.

OK I think your theory is very plausible. The only problem I have is the above statement. As we have seen with Fudge the MoM isn't always the strongest of characters. Just because he's minister doesn't mean he is untouchable. Remember that Moody was the greatest auror out of them all but he still had a lot of injuries sustained from his fights with DEs.

No, but we have also ben told you have to pass a series of tests and such to become an auror. He may not be the best, but he is certaily more capable than Fudge.

True. Just wanted to point out that tiny flaw in your theory. I like it though. It's an original one although for some reason I'm still going with Regulus.
