Why did Jo give the book two names? In Britain, it is known as Harry Potter and the Philosophers stone.
I think that sounds better, but why did tht happen? -------------------- [rpgcode:0|Mike|0|0|0|0|0|{}|{}|0|0|3|2|01/01/87|None|A wizard in disguise]

Because she didn't think that Americans would understand what a Philosopher was. She explained this in an interview I believe.

Well, while Bloomsberry was totally up for using Philosopher, Scolastic doubted it's worth and acceptance in American culture. But, because they wanted to keep it (or because they'd already spent, like, about $1 million for the rights to the book), they decided to just change Philosopher to Sorcerer.
I don't think Jo really liked the idea of having the title change, but she gave Scolastic permission. -------------------- [rpgcode:0|NoName|0|0|0|0|0|{}|{}|0|0|0|0|01/01/01|None|None]
