As i'm the kinda guy who prefers a crowd to disappear in then an awkward convo with individuals, i find myself always in need of a good anime stress reliever.

As i've discovered from countless attmepts at conversing, everyone knows sometihng that's hawt and something that's nawt so suggest an anime or put one down.

Baccano! get's a thumbs up from me. 13 eps long (16 if you have the dvds) with a puzzling yet rewarding storyline that will force you to want more.

Gilgamesh get's a thumbs down. A long series that is hard to keep watching due to ghastly character design and an incredibly boring way of telling what i'm sure could be an intersting story.

Now someone else give it a go. You can be more descriptive if you like (or less) and be less biased in your opinions.

It'd just be nice to have another thread worth checking every once in a while.

JUST Anime...?
I'll spice it up and do two versions (In one post) Anime and Manga version.
Anime:
Hawt: Hellsing OVA's. Holy Poop, they're amazing. If you enjoyed the Hellsing mini-series of 13 episodes, you'll love the OVAs. It sticks closely to the Manga plotline so it will naturally be a tad longer, but the animation, plot, and everything else is definately raised in quality. Ceres also becomes 3x more BA.

Nawt: Rosario + Vampire II. I'm a manga person, and I decided to try and watch this some time back, to be disappointed. The animation seemed... choppy to me... and the characters ill-developed compared to the manga. A plot was near-absent, and of course, veered away from the one I knew. It had an entire episode dedicated to people being possessed by CURRY! Come on. D:

Manga:
Hawt: Though I have many, I'd have to say Negative Happy Chainsaw Edge. About 8 chapters of 50 pages, (so approx. 400 pages total) but it's packed with a great plot, good artwork, and everything you could want. Chainsaws, Large Hooded Guy, Super-Powered Fighting Girls, Romance, and a Trippy/Deep plot. A story of self-discovery and a supernatural adventure to change two people's lives. I give it a great rating and say you should check it out.

Nawt: Bobobo-bo bo-bobo... Just... Augh... I guess it's supposed to be Zany and Hilarious, but it's... just augh... I read 2 chapters, then had to read 5 different good Manga to counteract it. It's about some guy fighting with nose and armpit hair. Nuff said.

Don't believe Guy's lies. Bobobo is awesome in any form sonic-1.png

We are officially using the Hawt and Nawt scale for this thread bowser-1.png

Anime:

Hawt: Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. The anime that's swept the nation. Should you believe the hype? Heck yeah! It's one of the smartest animes to come out in awhile, plus it's got a main female character that is ACTUALLY interesting and likeable. Kyon is pretty cool too. A definite download if you haven't already.

Ultra Mega Hawt: Paranoia Agent. It's my favorite anime. And yes, I've seen Cowboy Bebop. It's The Twilight Zone in anime form. It's nearly impossible to explain without giving anything away, but the jist of it is that there is a boy called Little Slugger that is attacking people in Tokyo. All hell breaks loose after that!

Nawt: Bleach. Unless you've been watching this show for a while, there's no point getting into it. It's pretty standard and the story moves way too slow. My friend says it gets good after like episode 50, so it's up to you if you want to stomach episodes 1-49 to get there.

Ultra Mega Nawt: Inuyasha. I could talk about this show for days. Just trust me. It sucks.

Manga:

Hawt: D. Gray Man. A clever action shonen manga with a great art style and interesting characters. It borders on cliche at times, but you probably wont care. It's an engaging read that'll leave you waiting for the next volume to come out. Also like for similar reasons: Claymore, Black Cat, Hunter X Hunter, and Yu Yu Hakusho (anime for this one is great too!)

Ultra Mega Hawt: Negima. It's amazing. It's by Ken Akamatsu. It's stars a ten year old wizard that becomes the teacher of an all girls school. It has robots, lesbian samurai (no joke), aliens, and crazy cosplayers. No, this isn't hentai. It's amazing. Check it out! My current favorite manga!

Nawt: Bleach. Boring. Read first two issues and couldn't continue. Pass.

Ultra Mega Nawt: Buso Renkin. I had high hopes for this one, cause it's by the same guy who did Rurouni Kenshin. Boy was I dissapointed. This is at best a cliche action story with a dim-witted hero. Check out the above manga for your shonen fix and skip this one.

Oh man. Bringing Anime Justin into this. Okay. Uh. I actually haven't studied up on my H/N of anime in a long time, so

Hawt: Elfen Lied. I probably shouldn't say that with children around. But it's freaking amazing. Like, I can't even go into how amazing it is, because even if I were able to put it into words, they would NOT be allowed on this forum. sonic-1.png

Nawt: Freaking.... CODE GEASS. I had really high hopes for this, and several attractive women put me on to it... But I fell asleep in the first episode. It felt like I was playing Final Fantasy X, and just constantly being underwhelmed. Steer clear of this anime as if your life depended on it.

Hooray! It took off without a hitch!

Sorry Weasel my man but i just can't agree with your nawt. Your hawt however was spot on. IMO

Ultra Hawt: Code Geass! In simplest terms, it's a cross between gundam and death note.
Incredibly intelligent plot line with character design by non other then clamp, the same people who brought you xxxHOLiC!
This animu is difficult to stop watching since it always leaves you at an important moment. It's difficult to tell who is really doing the right thing, making it so much more interesting the further you go.
Rather then spoil it, i'm just gonna say "I command you to watch it!"

Hawt: Air gear. A hilarious show with more action then a movie starring Keanu Reeves. The character designs are pretty good and it's got something for just about everyone. The anime does stop halfway however so if you're a manga addict, check this out. It's even better (if that's possible).

Definitly Nawt: Gun X Sword. A rather zany anime about a swordsman (with a flexible sword) who wears a tuxedo (and eats using every condiment known to man) who rescues a little girl who promises to marry him. I found it ridiculous and not in a good way. It felt like it was trying too hard to be like a good anime rather then come up with something out there and original.

Anime Justin has been brought into this falco-1.png

TOO HAWT FOR SCHOOL: Fighting Foodons. I don't even remember what this show was about. All I have is this dream where I'm making a sandwhich, and the sandwhich comes to life and starts screaming "BLT! BLT!" Then we go on an adventure to defeat the dreaded "Five Month Old Pizza." If an anime has that kind of effect on me, it must be incredible.

I'm just going to list some hawts and nawts in any random order.

Hawt Manga: Bakuman. Unlike Bakuman it's not a traditional Jump manga with no plot, but rather about 2 kids who aspire to be mangaka and follow how they go about it. I find it awesome. Same artist as the one who did Death Note (and I love all the stuff he draws for [except Death Note, ironically])

Hawt Anime/Manga: Eureka 7. I know, you've probably all heard of it, but it was definately worthy of mention here. I don't know how to describe it, but everyone about it seems freaking awesome.

Nawt Anime: Inu-Yasha. Sorry, I just have pent up hate against it. Like majorly pent up hate.

Nawt Anime/Manga: Death Note. The starting and the ending were mpretty awesome, in my opinion, but after Light loses the note I completely lost interest and thought it just went downhill from there. (Up until the very end, as I said.) Good concept, not so great excecution.

Hawt Manga: MxO. Pretty awesome comic about a guy being where he doesn't belong... In a school full of magicians, with no ability of magic... while they think he's insanely strong. Sounds kind of lco,mon for a plot, but I think it's done really well. The ending is a tad too abrupt.

Hawt Manga: Pretty Face. About a guy who ends up in a car crash, then a plastic surgeon gives him reconstruction surgery to look like a picture he's carrying... a picture of the girl he likes. I loved it.

Eh I'll throw in my two cents in though I feel like I'm more of a anime/manga noob. I've always like the format and art of anime/manga better than any of the actual works. As storytelling is concerned well.....anyways (oh and all of this is manga just if your wondering)

Hawt:Pokemon adventures: that's the noobness coming in. I'm a pokefan (pure blood) so I had to add it in. Yes it's a children manga but it has some suprisingly good points and any plotholes that the games or the manga might leave are always filled in with an amazing almost psychic answer that correlates with pokemon games 3 to 5 years in advance. Either these guys are psychic or geniuses when it comes to story development. Though i will say the early stuff sucks to go through.

Nawt:Wallflower: I'm all for this kind of manga but really there has to be some form of attempt of storytelling or at least if nothing else, comedic value. This has neither and doesn't even try in the catagory of art either (most of the art is chibitized beyond belief). I just....couldn't get into either it or the characters.

Hawt:Pretty Face: Like Guy said this is a great manga. The only problem was that it was to abrupt. I would have loved for Yasuhiro to continue the second year and maybe have developed more of the characters (there's too many cliffhangers). But still besides the fact that the mangaka tries to get you all homosexual for the main character at the beginning of each chapter, the series is good.

Nawt: Code Geass: Boring, I heard the anime was good, but I didn't even want to waste my team reading the manga (which I read because I don't like wasting the time it takes to watch anime). Oh well.

Hawt: Dragon Ball series: Everyone has to give credit to the originals. Even if you aren't a fan of Toriyama's work (and if you arten't you are a failure of a human) you have to respect the series at least for inspiring some of the greatest mangas out now. It's story isn't super spectacular but the characters are great and the action is top rate. The anime was cool, but the manga is really were dragon ball shines (it gets rid of the whole staring at each other for three episodes and trhe horrible "next time on dragon ball Z"). Know your roots.

Hawt: Energy: Not a well know series but it will rock your socks off. It was made by this sexy lad named Church. I'll post some scanalations when I get the chance.

I gotta agree with Death Note. After all the hype died down I found myself looking back at it kinda disappointed. No matter how much symbolism it may have, the half way point really ruined the series for me. And unlike Guy, I thought the ending was pretty lame (well done, greatly executed, and made sense from every stand point, but still really stupid).

You have a new manga Church? Bust that out!

A few more:

Hawt: Claymore-a very engaging Shonen manga. It's about girls who are trained to fight monsters in their world by becoming half monsters. Very violent and kinda complicated, but not in a bad way. It makes you think about morals in way you may not have thought about before.

Omega Hawt: Uzumaki-no, not the ninja. This horror manga really threw me for a loop. The premise may sound stupid (spirals infecting a village. Yeah...spirals), but don't let it fool you. This is an actually scary book. It'll leave you up at night, trying to avoid spiral shapes at all costs. Must read!

Haha, ah well, more code geass for me then.

Hawt: .Hack//SIGN
The story is about player character known as Tsukasa in the online game 'The World' which has millions of player worldwide. Basically, Tsukasas' consciouness has been trapped in the online world, leaving the body in the real world in a coma.

That's a reeeeally basic idea of what this show is about. Currently it is still one of my top 5 anime. I wish i could describe it a bit better. It's not for everyone as it's basically a dialogue anime. It's really interesting in the fact you rarely meet the people behind the pc's (by pc i mean the actually players of the game). If you spend a lot of time in forums or online games, you'll understand this anime best. That's all i can say.

Hawt: Spice and Wolf

This is my current no. 1 anime. This is something you have to watch to undertsand why as any description will leave you wondering why. It's a story of a traveling merchant in a time when the church was steadily growing in power and electricity hadn't discovered yet. (medievil pretty much)

Aaaanyway, said merchant visits a harvesting town on his way come into contact with Horo (or holo as it's translated) a wolf diety who watches over the harvest and brings them good crops. Lately she feels the people no longer believe in her and she wishes to go home.

Convicing the merchant to take her with him in exchange for good luck on his travels and her vast wisdom of over 400 years, they set off.

Again, i really wish i could describe it better but alas, tis not my forte. 13 eps long, it was adapted from a very popular light novel. If you've read this much then good for you!

Manga, again:
Hawt: Rabbit Doubt: Ugh. I'm angry at the ending, but putting that aside it's a pretty awesomely done Manga. Complete with Saw like killings and a Mafia esque way of doing things. It's essentially a strange game of Mafia played over cellphones, but some people enjoy meeting up to do it...
Then they end up in a situation where the killings are real.

Hawt: Change 123: Well, I like it at least. It's about a guy who's pretty much in love with Kamen Rider, and he meets a girl with a multiple personality disorder... She has 3 other main ones, each a master of a different martial art. The plot thickens, but I won't ruin it for you guys.

Hawt: History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi: If you're willing to read through 300+ chapters, it's worth it. It's a talentless kid who learns Martial Arts from a bunch of masters, then follows the troubles that come with becoming stronger.

I don't have many "Nawt"s, because I don't read what I don't like and I soon forget about them.

Bringing this topic back!

MEGA HAWT ANIME: K-ON!: This is the new project from the guys who did Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. It got positive feedback on a lot of sites, so I thought I'd check it out. And I gotta tell ya, I wasn't dissapointed! Imagine the crisp animation and well written dialogue of Haruhi, only this time it's about a rock band! An all girl rock band! There's not much more I can say. CHECK IT OUT!

If that's the case then I'll go ahead and post a Rumiko Takahashi version of the Anime to keep you going thread

Hawt: Ranma 1/2 -a classic martial arts/romantic comedy type manga/anime. Funny and subtly interesting. It has a nice mix of well developed to freakin rediculous characters.

Nawt:Inuyasha- Not much to say, it's just another pointless shonen.

I always avoided Ranma because of the obvious, though it's something I may consider checking out later on.

Plus there are like thirty volumes of the manga. I can't start something like that! olimar-1.png

Manga Hawt - Liar Game
. About people being forced into a game of, well, lying. The objective is to gain as much money as possibly through conning the other players. The main characters are an overly honest girl and the con-artist she hired.
Pretty cool, but if you don't like the detective manga format, don't bother with it.

Anime again, this time...
Requiem for the Phantom: Usually if it has "requiem" in it's title, I think it must be awesome... but anyway. This story is about a guy who wakes up and gets trained to become an assassin who 'doesn't exist' by a girl who had the same done to her. (Her name is Ein, his is Zwei... German for one and two). It's got twists and turns that I was actually going to put in a story I was writing, but they beat me to it. Ah, well.
It's really good, though Master Scythe is a creeper...

I gotta put all these anime on my list!

HAWT: Eden of the East: From Production I.G., this is a very slow anime with no obvious plot (at least in the first few episodes). The only thing I can tell you without spoiling what happens is this: There was a missile attack on Japan that destroyed a huge chunk of real estate. Strangely, no one was injured, so the event became known as Careless Monday. Years later, a girl travels to America, and is startled when she finds a naked man with no memories in front of the White House.

If you like shows that build up over time, then check this one out. It's still airing, so only time will tell if the payoff is worth it.

Hawt: Anime this time, Requiem For The Phantom... It's kinda corny, and the mob polotics don't fully check out... And there's a huge flaw in the character design when one goes from 12 to 15 (or something like that)... But despite all of that, I loved the series. It's, sadly, been completed with an ending that isn't particularly bad, but it's not the one you would really WANT.

Since we're bringing back this thread...

Hawt: Scott Pilgrim. Don't know if it counts as manga, but it's a graphic novel at least. I just checked out a few weeks ago. Really really good. It's written by this Canadian guy who really gets our generation. And to top it all off, it's being made into a movie by the same guy who did the incredible Shaun of the Dead.

Give it a look!

Check it out Guy. It's REAL good!!!

Hawt Anime: I can't remember what it's called, but it's about this school girl who was cursed by a crab god. Now she doesn't weigh anything. To top it off, she's can pretty much beat anyone up. There's also a guy who used to be a vampire, but got cured.

If anyone knows what this is called, let me know!

Can't believe I never mentioned this...
(CAUTION ONLY READ WHILE WEARING OVEN MITTS)
HAWT: Bloody Monday. It. Was. Magnificent. It was 96 chapters when it completed (Now it has Bloody Monday Season II... which I cried tears of happiness when I found out about it.) It has such a wonderous plot... It was kind of like Death Note if it was done right and less supernatural. I don't want to spoil anything, so... Just take my recommendation. I loved it.
But, be warned... It's kind of dark at some points.
