Omega created by Heretic of the IF Skin Zone

WELCOME
Set in a world just slightly different than the real world, the comics and the movies alike, Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters specializes in the training and protection of the next breed of mutants. They fight not only for equality and acceptance, but to protect mutant and human alike from the machinations of evil forces who would seek to twist the world to their own ends. Founded by Charles Xavier, the school serves as a home for those who would otherwise be rejected in normal society.

Here's a few general guidelines/things to know before you write up a character and post it up on the site for consideration.

1. We're not looking for first applications to be non-canon/original characters, and there's a very important reason for that. There's a ton of unused characters in the X-Men's fifty plus year history, and a lot of them have powers similar to ones that people generally apply for non-canons. We ask that people looking to play non-canons start out with one or two canon PCs and then play for a while as we get a feel for how you write. If you do eventually apply a non-canon character, it's going to have to be significantly different than other X-Men characters.

2. I Ain't Your Baby's Daddy- There's a couple of characters that we don't want to see and, therefore, won't be seeing on the game. There's no chance that you'll get to play them, so asking really isn't worth your time. Period. End of story. Here's a few, and more to be added as we go on. These characters, for the purpose of this game, will never, EVER exist.
  • Daken
  • X-23
  • Legion
  • Proteus (technically, only the Ultimate X-Men version was Xavier's son, but nobody's going to be using him anyway because he's on this list, so bluh)
  • Cable
  • Phoenix II (Rachel Summers)
  • Stryfe
  • Hope Summers
3. Learn Before You Teach- We're not initially letting people start off as playing teachers, at least without some serious vetting. Now, that's not to say that we won't let you eventually, even quickly if we're really impressed with your writing and dedication to the game. Initially, though, we want to get to know you better, see how you write and post consistently, before we give you a teacher because the players of the teachers will generally be privy to a bit more of what'll be happening in the storylines and will have more influence over other player characters. If you're really looking to play a teacher first, try doing a student character and make sure to let us know that you're interested. We might ask for a writing sample, but ultimately, we want to make certain that we have people we can trust and who are excellent writers in some of the teacher positions, as it's important for the game.
If you're interested in playing a character and you want to talk with us beforehand, feel free to email us at gennextstaff@yahoo.com, or you can IM us on Yahoo Messenger on the same. We'd love to hear from you.

The Premise of our game is that of an academy for mutants to learn control, and to find new prospects for the X-men. Since our game doesn't follow any specific canon of comics, movies, or cartoons, there is a lot of freedom in character creation. We don't allow children of X-men (a la Rachel Summers), aliens (the Shi'ar), and the family trees may need to be edited (The Mystique family tree, for instance).

While we don't allow origional characters, but by allowing players to pull from different types of material, we are offering a lot of freedom on character creation. Almost any power set has been used in the comics, so with help you can often find a character to expand upon. (You really don't need to create a brand new pyrokinetic when there is Pyro, Flambe, Watchfire, Firefall, Brushfire (the last four having no real histories at all) to choose from?) We allow freedom with histories, so those characters that appear in one or two comics only are really up for grabs in terms of your ability to create a history and personality of your choosing. There are many background characters to choose from and we're more than happy to help.

There also is the possibility of taking a character that is well known, and adjusting them to our setting. A perfect example is Longshot who has been taken from a interdimensional character with a history that would never be accepted (Mojoverse, really?) and put into a 'real world' setting. An excellent example of a melding of the the movie, comics, and cartoons is Rogue.

Do remember that these are high school students. While we all have our favorite characters, it is impossible to have Jubilee have the entire history you find in the Wikipedia article. Also, please write the history or powers with a bit of your own flair. A copy/pasted Wikipedia article doesn't really give the sense that you even care about the character you intend to play. A good example of a character with a rich history that is condensed and alterted to fit our game is Pyro.

If you have any questions, or need any help, please feel free to contact any of the admin. We can sometimes be found in chat, otherwise message Xavier, Dazzler, or Forge for the quickest response.
