I have never really been into simluation racers in the past, but about a year or two ago, I became crazy about cars. The very first car model I ever had was a 1996 Pontiac Firebird Formula- and it remains my favorite car to this day. But still, I was not into realistic racing games, so I got F-Zero GX for the GameCube- and it's a great game, but, it really has nothing on Gran Turismo 3.
First of all, Gran Turismo has lots of depth. You can buy at the very least 60 cars, and you can upgrade them via the Tune Shop in simulation mode. In the arcade mode, you can race the computer to unlock new cars in the normal and hard modes. In the simulation mode, you can race in more than 30 cups, each containing 3 or more tracks each.
But, to race on certain tracks, like the rally races, you must aquire a certain license, and have the right kind of car. You just can't race with a Dodge Viper on ever track in the game, or you'd tear the tires apart trying to.
The first things you notice in the game is it is absolutely gorgeous. It is one of the best looking games I have seen on the PS2. The soundtrack is also great, and it sounds as if it were made including Dolby Surround, even though it doesn't have it.
But, all in all, this is a great game, and I can't wait for the sequels for the PS2 and PSP. Any racing fan who doesn't own this game needs to buy it, since it is only 20 bucks brand new. Great game for a great price. You can't compete with it.
My Score: 9.4
