The crisp turn of the page and the dust sauntered off the cover. Never judge a book by it's cover was how the old motto went. Well, from this cover Valirea guessed the book was old and she was right. Maybe it was more meant for the content of the book. After all, she had thought this to be a simple book from the plain cover, but found everything in it to be written complicatedly. Miss Reynolds had had a hard time deciphering the sentences... and those were the ones written in English. There must've been at least a dozen different languages in the one book alone. Two she knew. French and English. The others... well, she was guessing one was Celtish and another Latin, but the others must have been forgotten ones. The book gave off another wave of dust as she closed it and slid the linen thing back onto the shelf.

She wiggled her nose and brought her hands up, the sneeze echoing throughout the lonesome and nearly empty library. She was silent for a moment before looking over the spines of the old books, grabbing one she thought might be readable. Her nails slipped over the gilded edges of the pages and flipped to the middle, those green eyes focusing on the words and finding them to be English. Thank God really.

... and so it came to pass that the Shadow was locked away by the Guardians and... The words here were blurred for the rest of the page, so Val turned the page and her eyes followed the blur to the last paragraph of the page and read on. ... only in this way could the Shadow once again be freed. But pray these instructions never fall into the wrong hands... pray someone destroys this book before things get any worse... before things progress. I know that... The rest of the words were blurred and the next pages were blank. Valirea found this puzzling and bit her bottom lip.

"You know that what?" She whispered to herself, eyes trying to make sense of the blurred ink before she looked up.

"Keys... find the keys..."

Valirea spun around, her eyes darting around the room as the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end. Her smooth skin formed goosebumps, feeling the familar cold on her spirit and knowing there was no one there. The whisper had been given because of her gift. She hated what she heard. It... it made no sense. Find the keys? Find the keys to what? But of course they wouldn't tell her. Good for nothing spirits... they told her useless things and never told her how to use the important things. A sigh passed over her glossy lips as she closed the book and put it back.

She rubbed her arms to bring warmth to them and then sat down in one of the chairs provided for reading, thinking of matters. Why things had to be so cryptic all the time puzzled Val. She flipped her curled hair back over her shoulders and arranged her lengthy skirt so that her knees were covered by the army green linen. Her light brown tank top sat lazily on her as she sat lazily in the chair. She opened a book on the table, finding it to be a chemistry one and read over the lesson. At least everything was explained in this one.

Caleb had been to the administration office and met with the head mistress and registered himself for the school year. After his meeting he was advised to go to the student lounge. He did so and found himself alsone as no-one was here. He left the lounge and his mothers voice appeared in his head. It was telling him of the famous library in the school. Caleb smiled as he remembered his mothers words and made his way to the library.

He arrived at the large oak doors of the library entrance. He gripped his hand on one of the large cast iron rings of the door and puled. A small grunt escaped his mouth as he tried to open the massive door. "Phew" he said as he finally opened it and peeked inside. It was almost deserted, the librarian was there and a woman sitting by herself.

Caleb walked over to the librarians desk and awaited for her head to pop out of a giant book imprinted with tiny letters. Caleb faked a cough to get her attention. The librarian lifted her head. "Oh hello there. How can I help?" she whispered.
"Oh I'm looking for the history books!" he whispered back.

The librarian got out of her chair and motioned to Caleb to follow. He did so and she led him to a large area full of old, thick and dusty books. "Thanks" he whispered with a smile. The librarian smiled back and left.

Caleb looked all over the shelves until one caught his eye. It was a bright emerald grren leather bound book with gold guiled edges, but it was too high for him to reach. Caleb looked around and saw no-one was looking. Caleb stared at the book and it pulled itself out of the shelf and levitated in the air for a second then lowerd itself into Calebs open hands. He blew the dust off it and went over to the seateing area. He nodded to the woman sitting opposite him and rested his eyes on the book again.

"History of magic, myth, and war in Ireland." was the cover name of the book. A smile crept accross Calebs face as he loved to find out more about his country. The text was in Gaelic but Caleb was fluent so he read on.

Those long lashes never feathered away from the chemistry book until she heard the door to the library open and small whispers. Thn those eyes travelled up the page and pieeked over the edge of the book. Spirits didn't ask for history books. Or ask what someone was looking for. They simply told the answer before the question was known. She watched the young man approach, her eyes hardly shown above the edge of the book.

The librarian left and she pretended to read the book. Something about trans structural formulas for molecules. Something she had already learned. Those eyes flashed with slight surprise when she looked up to see a book slide off the shelf of the history section. Now, since she was only seeing one side, since it had happened to be facing the chem. book she had retrieved earlier. The only thing that greatly bothered her was that she had seen no fingers along the book. And that boy had not seemed to have small hands.

Valirea bit her lip and gave a shy half smile to the boy who sat opposite her and tucked her peering eyes back into the chemistry book, waiting for a few minutes and then pulling the book down. Her eyes travelled over the lettering. One of the books she had seen that she hadn't been able to read. Her legs uncurled from beneath her as she got out of her chair and walked over to the young man, looking over his shoulder.

"You can read Gaelic?"

This she whispered softly, in slight amazement since it had not been taught at her schools. Valirea realized how rude she must've seemed and stood up straight, blushing lightly. She took a step back and felt her cheeks turning even a darker red.

"I...I...I'm sorry... I normally..." Her words drifted off as she heard whispers pushed at her, almost suffocating herself with the intensity of the speech.

"Keys!!! Keys!!! Keys!!!! Keys!!! Keys!!! Keys!!!!"

Her eyes flashed with alarm as the whispered words came louder in her ears and she winced, her eyes travelling up from where they seemed to be coming from. The hanging lamp swung wildly and she could see it coming lose. Her eyes widened and instincts took over. Her fingers began playing invsible keys as she dived at the young man in the chair. Instantly five walls appeared, four on the sides of them and one above. The lamp shattered to pieces on the wall just above the two and she heard the voices and whispers dissolve.

"Valirea.... protect the Keys..."

She was breathing in deeply as she found herself in a half turned chair with walls surrounding her and a strange boy and strange events that had set in motion something far greater than Miss Reynolds could have ever imagined possible. All she was aware of was being on the ground with a boy and tumbled chair, her cheeks flushing as she stared at him with wide eyes, having lost her touch for apology at the moment.
