It once held a high place in the Heavens, but was casted out. Forever to roam the Earth until Judgment Day...
During the days of kings and dragons, a great evil walked and spread chaos wherever it touched. No one spoke its given name, too afraid that speaking out loud would summon it. The evil spirit was given the reference as the "Shadow". The demon jumped from many forms, deceiving all who crossed paths. Something had to be done in order for their to be peace.
Blinded by a force from within...
Humans and Dragons have always fought against each other. Basic instinct took over and they killed what they did not understand. The "Shadow" helped keep the fighting going for over 200 years. It would jump from man to beast spreading it's lies. Non realized the harm that came from the blood that flooded their homes. That is, until their young started dying because of the drought.
A secret pact was made between enemies...
There were ten Dragon lords that came according to the color of their scales. For each Dragon, there were ten Kings that represented the lands from all over. Together they set up a meeting place and made a circular mark of large standing stones. Gathered each year, they dug deep within their history in order to find the root of their problems. It wasn't until the seventh year that a common factor was found. Some sort of shape shifter that could only be identified by a black mark on its neck. The mark was Hebrew and translated to "Azazel".
For fear that the demon would deceive them once again, they gave it the name as "The Shadow". If they could not identify the spirit by the mark on its neck, then asking for its referred name would throw it off and warn the others. They needed to devise a plan in order to catch the "Shadow" and destroy it.
Capturing the demon in one form...
A plan was devised between the allied group. They informed their countries that an alliance was made, keeping the fact of how long it was going on. Each leader inviting their courts and neighbors for a huge celebration of Peace. The party was to be held in one of the palaces in the desert, that way they could assure no quick escapes.
Knowing that the "Shadow" would do anything to keep the war from ending, it would attend the party in one of its guises. As they had predicted, the demon arrived and started making trouble. They were prepared and had all their sages, wizards, and anyone else that had experienced in the craft.
They bound it to a human form that went by the name of Malachi and imprisoned him into a stone with holy incantations engraved on it. There, they buried him under the sun and warned all those who tried to set him free. The punishment was death.
Peace did not last long...
Over the next hundred years, new kings were appointed as representations to stand in the place of their fallen kings before them. The dragons, however, had long life spans. Malachi was still buried in his tomb, and the only thing that kept him there was the incantations...but that didn't mean he couldn't use his powers to reach out to those near him. There were a few close calls and it sent fear through the veins of the allied group.
They began to argue over how to destroy the demon. The dragon leaders would pressure the kings to keep him imprisoned and only renew the spells after every ten years. The kings pressured the dragons to seek a higher power. Though, the dragons did not believe in higher powers and would not seek, nor bow down to them.
Gossip of war spread across the lands and even without the "Shadow" among them, its evil spirit still roamed in the hearts of man with the help of his fellow demons. No peace would be settled until the spirit was completely destroyed.
An answered prayer came with a great price...
In order to keep others from discovering the tomb of Malachi, ten humans with a pure heart were chosen from each land. Those who would guard the chosen ten were another ten trained in the craft by the dragons themselves. The twenty were to gather and guard the grounds at all cost. The demon could not escape.
Even with pure hearts and excellent trained warriors, the demon still got to them. He pitted them against each other and within no time, was set free. However the century of being encased and in one form had weakened him. Malachi knew nothing of the different laws and culture and that was how the allied group was able to pin point him.
They were able to capture him once again, but he became resistant to the tomb they once put him in. The dragons, who had had better experience with the demon, had enough powers and skills to tune out his deception. But they were creatures of flight and freedom, with young ones that were slowly falling under the demon's will.
With the new generations of dragons bowing down to Malachi, they began to kill innocents and force the humans to take revenge. The dragon race slowly withered until the original dragon leaders were all that was left. Hope for them was dying and they felt that there was no way out for any of them.
And then one night a beggar-looking woman appeared at one of their meetings. She told them the story of Azazel and revealed that the demon could not be destroyed until the End of Days. She asked if the allied group was willing to do anything to rid the world of the spirit's influence. When they answered "anything" she told them that the answer came with a price.
Since such and alliance had grown and stayed without the help of a celestial guidance, their bond was strong. They would have to perform a ritual that would keep the blood flowing on after the death of the dragons. Blood would be split from their veins and transfered to someone of their choice. This time the kings would choose those who would be the keep.
Malachi was moved to the meeting stone of the island. The body was encased under ground and there he laid dormant. This time it was the power of the dragon leaders united. Only someone with the blood of the magical creatures could release him.
The chosen ones took a vow to never release them of their own will. They were the only people that were ever allowed to know where he was. As a security measure, knowing the Malachi's followers would seek out any way to release him, the dragons placed the knowledge and their vow deep within their minds. Only when someone interrupted the demon's resting form would they gain the power of the dragons.
Long after the death of the allied group...
Over the years the lands changed and numerous people came to inhabit the country of Ireland. In the early 1900's a man of great wealth and power came to an area above the shores that lead to the Atlantic Ocean. Galway Bay--the first meeting place of the allied group. His name was Magnus Briar and he felt drawn to the stoned location. There he built a mansion of great size. It was to be the safe haven for those out casted or no longer allowed in society because of their differences.
Little did he know that under the large mass, was an evil deep within. It waited for the opportunity to find a willing soul that would do his bidding. That willing soul was Magnus. Tricked into creating a place were people were already having problems to deal with so they would not be aware of his presence underneath. The energy of these people would draw in those who could release him and then he would get his revenge.
That is where Harbor Academy came in. A high school isolated from the world, except for the cities below the cliffs. A place where "gifted" children could come and be influenced by Malachi's demonic ways. Once Magnus out lived his usefulness, he was forced to kill himself. Leaving a way for his two nieces to take over.
