..so, I'm in the process of writing a full-blown novel. Daring, I know. I'm posting my character bios, in hopes that you all can help me with some development.

More stuff will be added as I go along, such as backstory and a written appearance... and maybe even a few theme songs if I'm motivated enough.

I don't know if this is in the right topic or not but... *shrug*

For now, this is what I have, (this was written a while ago, and I'm in the process of editing it so it's more thorough. It's not as in depth as a bio for an RP, but it's going to be when I'm finished) :

Name: Tia Merlo

Theme song: Second one on this video, "Superhero"

Age: 14, (yes I'm making her young for a sophomore, but the real Tia I know has a late birthday. She was 14 in the beginning of the year.)

Personality: She is younger than most kids in her grade level, but only sometimes does her age show. She is a freelancer who likes sugary foods, and is only quiet when in the classroom. Otherwise, she is loud, but hilarious; (often showing the pervyness of a middleschool boy). She has a deeper set of emotions, but she rarely shows them. The emotions that do get though the mask of her childishness are often misinterpreted. She is quiet and foreign with people she doesn't know, but a crazy Philippina karaoke party girl with her close friends.

Brief Character History: Her mother's side of the family is pure Philippine, while her father is a red-head Caucasian; probably with some Scottish and German blood. They divorced, and both remarried. She lives with her mother, her two step-sisters, and step-father. Her step-father is a valuable man in the navy, so they tend to take family vacations all around the world as a result. Her passport is nearly full with stamps.

--------------------------

Name: Ericka Destler

Age: 15

Theme song: Mysterious Paridise,or, Stranger in Paridise

Personality: She is of the liberal arts side of inteligence. With her creativity and deductive reasoning, she can solve higher math problems but contrary to that, she has trouble with organization, simple times-tables, and linear thinking. In English, she can have a wonderful discussion of Shakespear's Taming of the Shrew and it's deeper meanings, but has trouble translating that into a 6 page formated essay. She loves drawing, her head being in fantasy for the greater part of the day. She is drawn to old fashioned things, but is all in all a very modren person.

Brief Character History: Daughter to an artistic mother and musical father, her life has never been without colour and sound. Her mom is a high-school teacher, but does not teach at the school Ericka attends. She is outgoing and calm, yet always content.. Her dad is a music therapy psychologist, and is quiet and watchful. Her personality is a direct blend of the two, as a result. All in all, they're the average family. The person she holds most dear is her twin brother, Adriam.

-------------------

Name: *TRUCKNOISE* Adriam Destler (He doesn't like his first name, so he goes by his middle):

Personality: He is a dreamer, but not in the sense that he is dumb and absent minded. While he may dream of dragons, it involved their air-speed-velocity, height, weight, and other technical statistics and how they would influence the real world if they existed. He's known to write pages and pages of plot, filling quite a few notebooks with his ideas for fantasy. He's generally quite among adults; preferring to seek shelter in the back of the room and watch when they're around. At times, he can be manipulative and sly, however. He and his friend are part of the mock-UN talks at their school. It isn't uncommon to see him whispering in the ear of said friend to get his ideas known. All in all, he's quite the mastermind, but likes to play behind the scenes. In a game of Dungeons and Dragons, his most probable role would be that of the Dungeon Master.

Brief Character History: He takes after his father the most. He is a very talented singer, but only does so when in class or a contest that his dad makes him compete in.

--------

Name: Michaela Millet

Age: 16

Personality: Creative, OCD, "phangirl" of Phantom of the Opera. She loves darker characters of fantasy. She is often described as a blond pushy Irish housewife who loves the old fashioned bad-ass guys in black cloaks. She says what she thinks; her wit making every sentence hilarious. This might seem mean, (if on the receiving end of the insult), but she is very kind and accepting of others. She loves literature and her French heritage. Her love for theater always has her humming songs under her breath.

Brief Character History: Her father is French, and her mother pure Irish. She too has been to many countries, but at leisure. Her family is well-off, but not necessarily snooty. She is fluent in French, and an old friend of Ericka's.

------

Name: Ian Destler

Age: 11

Personality: He's just a few years younger than the twins. He, like the rest of his family, is musical, but not in the classics. He can play the electric guitar decently, and, like his brother, loves fantasy. All in all, he's still just a kid. He loves to play video games and make stories with his older brother.

Brief Character History: Number three out of four children in the Destler family.

------------

Name: Mr. Michael Destler

Theme song: Cloudburst

Pic:

Personality: As a Psychologist Major, he is very thoughtful and understanding. Observant by nature, he is generally quiet and serene. As a musician at heart, he is a listener instead of a preacher. He expresses himself the most when he is at the piano. Every time he finished a piece, he sits in quiet wonder and awe of the sound.

Brief Character History: He met Elanor at the opera, Carmen.

-----

Name: Mrs. Elanor Destler

Theme song: Nocturne

That's a lot of fucking characters for a novel.

So anyway, all of your characters are hoity-toity liberal arts majors who sit around at coffee shops and talk about how cool it is to be intelligent, attractive, pretentious and knowledgeable about the fine arts? From these simple bios (yes, i'm taking in the fact that you said they're not very in-depth but too much depth in a book and you'll drown) i can't find even the smallest connection with them, which may or may not be what you're going for.

I get the feel of a really bad teen-angst soap opera.

XD!

No, that's just the Destlers. It's not a soap opera at all, actually. the characters themselves are perfectly average, (well.. most of them), but the situation and plot involved supernatural events and places.

..huh, now that you mention it, they do sound a little... soap-opera... ish. I can assure you that it's not going to take that route. If anything, the plot is...uh... sorta like Dinotopia, if you're ever heard of it... but... uh... not

I don't get it. Where's the dragons, elves, spaceships, lightsabers, katanas, shotguns, and evil space aliens?

...not there yet

<.<;;;

Also, it's not so much fantasy, but more of an alternate reality. this was largely inspired by wicca and the book Sophie's World.

Thanks!

Also, this is just a little... introduction. I don't want to give away too much of the story. One of my favorite things about this is that I like to reveal the characters as our narrator, Tia, comes across them. I'll be posting Evangelist soon enough.

if its a novel shouldn't you wait until it's done and then get it published?

The rule of novels:

Anyone attempting to write a novel who is not being pressured by fans or a publishing company will fail.

Even if you are being pressed to by fans you'll still probably fail. Just look at me with Jormungandr.

The only thing that can really save a novel is a deadline. Those aren't always effective either. Just ask Stephen King.

The truth behind that statement is greater than you'll ever know.

As Jesus quoth unto man, "Maybe some day I'll rise again. Probably not, so don't hold your breath. Fags," as did man ignorantly take the first half of that sentence and picked out the brown little bitter bits, so as doth thou minions unto i do has. Werd.

...XD

Also, I can tell I'm going to have to read your story, Ordin. Migard Serpent?--Norse mythology is my sweet-tooth.

More of an update on my writing.. I've been e-mailing Stephenie Meyer a lot for her advice. Her writing style is a lot like my own, and when we read each other's stuff, it's a lot like reading a fanfiction that you wrote and forgot about. It's a sort of... homey feeling.

Anywiis, when I have more typed, I'll be posting large sections. For now, I'm just surfing youtube and some photography sites for picture references and theme songs. ....ahh.. the wonders of the internet.
