Okay, so maybe I'm weird... but I have a soundtrack for each of my characters when I'm trying to write them, or even just get in their mindset for something. I've asked around here and there about the idea in the past, but never anything too concrete. As such-- do you use a specific playlist to help you write your character, do you just require background noise, or do you just write without focusing on that?

As a bonus, for those that do use a playlist-- list 5 songs from it, and explain why they're important/inspire you. In the name of fairness, I'll go first.

Excerpt From Sachiele's Playlist

1. Sick Is The One Who Adores Me by Panzer A.G. - I don't remember the exact thought process, but this is the song that ultimately inspired Sachiele's creation. The second verse is what really stuck out to me, if I recall right.
2. Eternal Winter by Through Darkness - Sachiele's entrance music is a song I actually found while randomly digging about on Youtube-- and shy of a brief period of using the next song, it's always been her entrance music. The visual in my head of her entrance has always been a strong one, and I see no reason to change it,
3. Cold (But I'm Still Here) by Evans Blue - The first time I heard this song, I immediately made the association to Sachi-- and that association has only grown stronger over time. While I didn't quite like it as an entrance theme, but the lyrics and the tone of the song just... embody her to me, for lack of a better word.
4. Precious by Depeche Mode - This song isn't so much a song about Sachiele as it is how certain people in her past-- the ones that have a heart, at least-- regard her. She's fallen rather far emotionally, after all, and it's only going to get worse before it gets better. One has to wonder; will she ever thaw?
5. Crash My World by Lovex - As for the event that ultimately brought about the cold woman known as the Angel of Winter? Yeah, this song about sums it up on a lot of levels.

So... yeah. Share, damn you!

Or make suggestions for other peoples' characters.

Or something.

Oh, I love having music on when I promo. I can't have TV on the background because I'm so easily distracted ( and don't get me started about how YouTube/The Internet is right at my fingertips). I never have any specific tracks I have to play when I'm writing, though. Usually, it's whatever has grabbed my interest. Usually instrumentals of some shape or form. A place I love visiting is www.musigh.com for good tracks. There and www.ocremix.org for sure. And, of course, whatever goodness I locate on Youtube. I also have a standing playlist of songs I always love listening to on my iPod that always keep me energized and focused.

This time, in particular, I fell in love with one song. It was a bit cheesy, but the vibe it had just made me fall in love with it.

Tony Burden's TOP FIVE PLAYLIST!

1. Alley Cat - Seventh Wonder
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sRDa-xTfwg

Tony's entrance is actually a super, happy-go-lucky song about wanting to be somebody's 'hero' even though he's knowingly not the perfect guy.

2. Dying For An Angel - Avantasia
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=quH_vUCdy2o

Definitely his anthem for his pursuit of Sachi. Tony knows something happened to her to make her the cold woman she is nowadays, but he doesn't quite know what, and he's unreasonably optimistic that he can get through to her.

3. Black Sheep - Sonata Arctica
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAIgr70zrBw

Another song that really holds true for Tony, he knows he stands on the outside socially, that he's a bit off.

4. Medicate - Flaw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cCs5bJRpiGc

One of those songs I write to when I need to remind myself that, oh yeah! Tony's a heavily medicated borderline psychopath!

5. Ih Ah - Devin Townsend Project
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp5uMxhsmcI

When Tony is manic, or wacky, or scheming some sort of stupidity... he's actually a fairly laid back human being, also, when he's been properly medicated, he experiences no highs or lows and stays on a pretty calm wavelength. Whether he truly likes that feeling though... is unknown

Nice list. Might I also suggest "Normal" by Bumblefoot?

I don't really have much of a soundtrack for Siegfried. You'd think there'd be lots of Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance or whatever, and maybe if I constructed a soundtrack for him, there would be, but really I just need something playing for me to focus on that isn't Netflix. Typically, because I either create a character around their theme song, or pick a theme song because it fits the character, if I need to get into a character's mindset, their theme song is sufficient.

Usually, it depends on my mood if I listen to something while I work on anything, RPs or graphics. More often lately I just write while it's quiet (well, as quiet as my house can get, which isn't saying much) and listen to music while doing graphics, but sometimes I'll put something on when I write. And when I do listen to something, it's often the same song on repeat until I either finish what I'm doing or need to take a break from it. I have no idea why that wouldn't get annoying after the first couple times playing a song, but I guess I'm just that OCD about it.

When listening to music when I RP, I'm kind of in the same boat as Kilroy and really just listen to whatever I happen to come across whether it's on YouTube or ocremix or some other place. Most of the time I find myself listening to my opponent's theme song (unless it's rap or dubstep, the only two music genres I can't stand... save for only one dubstep group, and they're usually never used for themes) since it just keeps me focused on writing something against them. Otherwise, the second most used option is current and/or past themes I've used for Aaron Rupp/D'Aubergine and Thirteen, and there's a lot of songs between the two of them I could list off but don't really want to post a huge ass list of every song I've used for the both of them. If somebody really wants me to I could do it, since it's more music for all to listen to. And if I do that, I guess I could see what songs I typically listen to that haven't been used as themes by me and throw them on there as well.

I tried listening to music from my stuff I have on YT while I write but I can't. It's hard enough for me to write and with music playing I'll end up writing the lyrics. But listening to Imagine Dragons Radioactive does get me in the mood to do a promo.

It just seems an odd choice given your character. Then again, I can't judge. I've written several RPs for my main character Tobias to the Best of Meatloaf

I parlayed your mom!

I dunno.

As far as music goes, not sure. Haven't really ever vibed out to music while doing a promo, probably because most of what I listen to doesn't exactly translate to the gimmick I'm working with.
