Rao walked on, feeling a shiver go through his bones. The mountains, they had said the mountains would help with his sickness. However, as a cough racked his body, he found himself doubting it, kneeling on the ground to collapse to sitting.

The small vial in his hand tilted up to slip a little salt water down his swiftly drying throat as he closed his eyes wearily. He knew he was close to a city, but he wasn't sure how close or how far. All he knew, was the sooner he was there, the sooner he could rest in a tub, then sleep in a nice soft bed.

Each sounded wonderful, as did food. Fish. Whatever. Just food. The smile that arched across the mer's lips was not all too kind.

Pushing himself up, he groaned lightly, closing his eyes at the sudden dizzy spell. Why had he come so far from home? Sometimes he wondered why he didn't just stay home to slowly pass away.

((Because I am bored and Owen is poking me I am posting with two of your characters. ^-^))

Owen still was not sure what compelled him to stay in the mountain ranges and travel this far from the forest. But something just seemed to drive him. Once again he gave a sigh as he silently padded along the mountain rocks. It was then that a scent came to him on the wind that really caught his interest. A Mer was on land? That was unual. Curious as to this he took off bounding easily over the large obsticles. It was then that he came across the said Mer.

The Dire Wolf tilted his head to the side curiously as he slowed his gait to a slow but steady walk. He made his was over to the sick creature and met it's gaze easily. He considered putting it out of it's misery but the creature had done nothing wrong so he could not kill it without consent.

"Something is the matter young Mer." He stated. He sat down hoping that it would make him a little less intimidating. "May I help you in any way?"

Blinking at the half stand as he found the other above him. "Not that i can think of, unless you have some miracle on you you can give up," Rao replied, staring up at the other for a moment.
He felt almost strange being recognized as what he was. Closing his eyes warily, felt a little sick again, but fought the dizzy spell. He'd be fine. Glancing at the other, he shook his head. "Thanks though."

"I am not going to leave you here alone young Mer so you might wish to think of something before I make the decision." The wolf stated simply. He smelt as if he was ill and from the looks of it his assumption was correct. "What is it that takes such light from a creature such as you?" If he could find out what was wrong with the creature then he could then possibly help. Dire wolves were ment to clense the world of the unpure souls and help those that were pure. Sometimes they were the only ones that were willing.

Raising his eyebrows, the mer looked the other straight into the eyes. "What? You wish to put me out of my misery?" Rao questioned, standing up a bit straighter. "After all the work it took for me to get up into these mountains?" He was a little startled and sighed. "It's an illness, if they knew what exactly it was, they could have healed me. All I know is noone else seems to be getting it." He shrugged with a faint sigh, coughing afterwards.

The wolf shook his head. "I have no intention to put you out of your misery. I have no reason to kill you. You are pure." He stated simply. "Let me help you. At least get you to an Inn if you wish not to be seen with me after." Dire Wolves were usually seen as a dark omen. They were not looked kindly upon even if they ment no harm to the ones around them. "You are brave to come this far from the water, it is obvious though that it is taking a great toll on you."

Blinking at the other, Rao took a deep breath, closing his eyes for a moment to recover. "I'm sorry, alot of people tend to avoid me," He murmured, blinking a few times. "I don't really know what to expect anymore." Taking a sip from his salt water vial he shook his head. "Whereever I can rest for a little bit would be nice," He admitted, taking a deep breath.

"It is alright, I understand how that can be." owen replied softly. He stood and gently moved closer to the Mer and turned to his side. "Get onto my back. Do not worry, you will not harm me." Dire wolves were much larger then normal. They were large enough to carry people and strong enough to cover quite a distance with a passenger. "I will stay with you until you are sure that you can take care of yourself." Even then the wolf would not believe it. The Mer was very ill.

Rao looked at the other quietly, before pushing himself to stand fully, shaking his head. "No, it's not neccessary to carry me," He replied with a faint smile, starting to walk a little. "I can walk, otherwise I never would have made it here." Blinking at the other, he frowned a little. "Why so concerned with a stranger?" He questioned lightly.

Owen gave his little version of a shrug before walking next to the Mer. "Because it is my purpose. Dire wolves are given the task of protecting the earth of the impure souls. We are changed to destroy such beings and help the pure. I do not question the will of the gods. It only leads to trouble." He explained the best he could. It really was a complicated thing. He really did not understand why there were such creatures for this job. It almost seemed a moot point. Again though, he never would question the gods. "Besides, I am not normal. My personality does not really suit a creature such as I. I am an outcast per say."

Rao looked at the other, but didn't say anything for a little while, Instead, he stared ahead, taking a deep breath. "The gods have odd decisions." The mer stated simply, smiling a little bitterly. "A mer dying from water intake." Shaking his head, he merely glanced at the other for a moment. "What do you do that is so different?" He questioned softly. "I don't even know your name, do I? I'm Rao."

"I am Owen." The wolf replied simply. It took a while before he could answer the first question. Finally with a sigh his head lowered a bit. "I can turn into a human." He finally explained. "In order to save their soul a powerful warlock forced me into a human form. I now have that part left and can go back and forth. I am shunned for it though it was not my fault." It really did upset him. The friends he once had avoided him. The other Alphas that were fighting to become the new king picked on him and beat him. It was no life to have to live.

Rao listened, limping a bit as he managed to try to keep his weight from going lal over the place. He was going to die, they all knew this, yet it was interesting to hear all of this. "Hm, I can relate a small bit then, I am a mer who is dying from water intake," Rao stated with a small bitter laugh.

"That is a rare illness, even for humans." He commented looking at the Mer with a worried glance. "Are you sure you do not wish to ride? You look as if you are having trouble keeping your balance." It really was worrisome. If anything he could at least help the Mer get as comfortable as possible. He really did not know if there was anything he could do for the poor creature. All he knew is that no one should have to suffer like so.

"Hm, either way, I'll live with it," Rao murmure. "I don't have much choice. If there was anything to learn about Rao, he was stubborn, if he was going to die at any time, He wanted to be in control at that moment. "Where were we going again anyway?"

Owen nodded. "Either to an Inn or a cave. I can sense a cave with a hot spring not far from here but it is up to you. And I know of only one being that would be able to help. A creature made of the earth its self and works as its balancer. A mean thing really but get its favor and you would be surprised in what it can do." It was only something he had heard in a story from his mother but it seemed plausible. Dire Wolves and other Fire animals were there to get rid of the corrupt and truly evil. "So where is it that you wish to head?" He asked finally shifting his eyes to look up at the Mer.

The mer glanced at the other in an uneasy fashion. An inn or a cave. Either secluded in the outdoors and within a hot spring, or within an inn around people. The wolf would no longer have to concern himself with Rao if that were to happen, he would be able to let the dire wolf go, and yet, he seemed to have issues with others not accepting him. Pausing, he glanced to the other, then smiled faintly. "The cave will do fine," He stated simply. "We can take it one step at a time from there."

Owen gave the Mer a nod as he slowly turned them in the direction of the cave. It was a lot closer and would give the Mer privacy...well...except of him who would be standing guard. There were creators in these mountains just like in the forests. They would target such weak prey as an easy meal. He was not about to let this Mer die because of some stupid beast. He had worked too hard to die as a meal. It is not much father. It is a lot closer than the Inn. It might not be the most comfortable of sleeping arrangements but I do make a good pillow." He stated wagging his tail happily. It had been a long time since he had gotten to be around anyone that was nice.

"So you can use me." He added looking up at the Mer with his version of a smile. It was obvious that it would not be a problem to be a pillow. The Dire Wolf stood above the Mer's waist at the shoulders. His plush coat made him seem a little wider than he really was but it was great warmth and cushioning. "I know I'm not a bed but I do like to snuggle." His youth was starting to show through. He was still young in terms of his race.
