How to Train a Dragon, a manual on Dwarven Spikes. As compiled by Gru Kenshin, an Elf of Atlantis.
Chapter One: What is a Dwarven Spike?
Dwarven Spikes are a finicky but intelligent race of dragons native to Atlantis. They were the first dragons in recorded history to be domesticated. Naturally Dwarfs did so with the assistance of enchanted artifacts now known to cause rapid development of a frontal brain lobe. This increased intelligence allowed them to learn language and social customs quite quickly, with a specific breed from the Kara region of Atlantis becoming the most prized for their valor and magical ability. Dwarven Spikes are descendant from Greater Spikes, a greenish variety of dragon now extinct but sharing many similarities with their smaller cousins. Again Dwarf-folk are to be held liable for the smaller stature of the Dwarven Spike, as they bred them to fit in their miniature tunnels as beasts of labor.
Physiologically Dwarven Spikes are no different than other dragons of Mithiclor, with obvious exceptions explained above. They are little more than intelligent lizards. Dwarven Spikes are not known to breath fire, although they can be taught to manipulate magic to perform such a feat. Due to their increased cerebral capacity, this race of dragons is capable of being taught magical songs. Like their host race, Dwarves, these creatures prefer warmth and suffer from mild agoraphobia due to their typical long below ground life.
