~The World Left Behind~

Where do you come from?

(THE WASTE)

Population:
Scarce
Technology Level:
Primitive
Magical Level:
none.
Environment:
desolate wasteland
Overarching Government:
anarchy
Language Notes:
A vowel-heavy language which relies more importance on syllables and how the syllables are pronounced, other than just individual sounds. There is very little known about the language.

Description:
The Waste. It is the most blinding of bright with its sun so close. During the day the rays scorch the earth, burning and leaving rare vegetation black crisps of nothing. At night, the skies are starless from the pollution of the Time Before, and thus are the most pitch of the blacks. There is no temperature that is “nice”. It is either freezing-cold or hot as tar in the sun. People there have mutated and become scavengers, their bodies far different from those on Earth. Their skin is tougher and their eyes elongated and more to the sides of their heads; to see danger in their peripherals.

The Waste is not mapped. In the Time Before, it was probably, but that was thousands of years ago. It was then that there was tech and people who lived, not just those who barely existed. A moon was thought to have crashed into the planet, leaving it in ruins, and the only ones who survived were the criminals that were buried under ground in high-security cells. It was they who repopulated the world, and as time passed, the people became more monstrous. The Averi was a name they gave themselves many generations later. By then, there was no peace, just pure hate and trying to survive. That's now all that matters in the Waste, and that's all there is to live for.

Character’s Role:
She was a child when she was folded, and had no role.

~The Character~

Play-by:
Dren from the movie Splice
Appearance:
Lottie looks rather humanoid. Her people are very much like humans, but she tries extra hard to look more human. She has light skin of no special color. In fact, someone could probably pass by her before seeing the very obvious differences between her and humans.

Her eyes are much wider apart than a human's. This enables her to have 50% better peripheral vision than others. Her pupils are oddly shaped, this allows her to see in darker environments. They are light green in color. She also has a second eyelid, which slides over her eyes when she gets sleepy or is zoning out; she doesn't need them for just blinking normally, unless her eyes is agitated. Her eyes are longer and larger than human's, giving her an unusual quality to her face. Then again, she is unusual. Though she doesn't naturally have eyelashes, she sticks extra-long ones on her eyelids in an effort to be prettier. She has long, expressive eyebrows, though these are the only hairs on her body.

Her lips are one of the more lovely things about her, in her opinion. It's because they are thick and plump. She likes keeping lip gloss on them, though their color is rather nice without it.

Charlotte's body is slim, but strong. Her hands have three fingers and a thumb, with long fingernails, sharp at a point. She tries to file them down, but the pain that she feels when she does this is often too much. She also tries to paint them, but fingernail polish does not like staying on her nails.

Lottie's legs have two sets of knees. These extra joints give her powerful legs and she is capable of jumping thirty feet into the air, cold. Because of their odd shape, she is forced to walk on her opposable toes, giving her legs the same shape of those which “fictional” creature, faun, has. It's because of these unusual ligaments that she cannot wear pants of any sort. Not that this matters; she likes wearing her dresses. She wears shorts under her dresses, as she is often running, jumping, climbing, and hanging up-side-down. Her bone structure allows her much more flexibility than most humanoids, and her spine is also very flexible, enabling her to remain in a crouched position for long periods of time. It also gives her the ability to perform amazing contortionist-type fears without any damage to her back or spine or nerves. Her agility, balance, bodily coordination and flexibility are at superhuman levels. Her hands and feet secrete a gland-activated substance that allows her to climb vertical surfaces.

The teenager also possesses a long, thing tail with a retractable barb at the end. She rarely lets the barb out, but sometimes it unsheathes if she is absolutely terrified. Her tail is strong and prehensile, allowing her to grab object and hold her for short periods of time. She doesn't often use it to support her, though it swishes around rather animatedly, and she really can't keep it still, not unlike a cat's.

Personality:
“Chuck”, “Charlie”, “Lottie”. Never “Charlotte”.

Lottie grew up on Earth Prime, so she seems like a regular teenage girl for the most part. She's adventurous and active, always moving and keeping active. She likes to dance and listen to pop singers and is extremely outgoing. She knows most of the people at The Point, and those who look radically different like she does has a special place in her heart. If you're going somewhere within the bounds of the town, you can be sure that Lottie has been there before you. She dreams of having some great love story and has such great expectations of life.

Many people who don't know Lottie may would assume her to be a harsh and cold individual. Perhaps this is because she is not only a physically strong humanoid, but a strong-willed teen who firmly believes in the power of individuals. She is calm and collected and has a powerful will and a great inner strength with unflinching conviction and a lot of perseverance. Though her animal-esque features are hard and unkind, she is sarcastic and clever with her words, and she genuinely likes all kinds of people. Because of this, she communicates with many of the people in the Point often.

Even though she is stubborn, Lottie is by no means “fixed” to her ideas. She can be reasoned with if the argument to hers is reasonable and intelligent. And though she is more “head” than she is “heart” she is still passionate and caring, though sometimes this is not obvious. At times she can become detached and harsh towards people, especially those close to her, but usually this is a phase that has nothing to do with the person.

Sometimes, Lottie's sarcasm and harshness can be completely tactless, making some people dislike her. She isn't critical or underhandedly mean, she just says what she means and means what she says. No matter the upheaval, challenge, or triumph, Lottie has the amazing ability to bounce back. Sometimes it takes longer than others, but her faith in life and the future always seems to remain untouched by the hardships.

Unfortunately, despite her triumph over bad thoughts and feelings, there are some things Lottie cannot run from. Her major insecurity is the fact that she does not look like a human girl. Of course, on her planet, Lottie would have been thought to be quite pretty, but on Earth Prime she just feels so out-of-place, even in a town like Folder's Point. She tries her best to be as normal as possible, but she cannot completely hide the fact that she feels ugly. She looks in the mirror and hates everything about herself. She hates her feet and her tail and her face. Lottie feels like an outsider, though she isn't treated like one. Lottie brings her ugliness up to make her seem a little more secure, making an ongoing joke about it, but it's just her defense mechanism and beating people to the punch before she is actually called ugly right out.

But if she really is ugly or not is up to the person she is friends with. She's friends with you. Even if you think you aren't, you are. She likes almost everyone and is quick to make friends and is very, very social. She's a “doer” rather than a “talker”, though she also loves to talk. She's impulsive, often acts first and then has doubts later. Her life is full of dramas and accidents and pure fun. Though she has never left The Point, she does have a lot of “real experience” with what she's got to call upon. When Lottie talks about something she did she's probably not lying.

Strengths:
Amazing athlete, decently intelligent, kind and accepting, upbeat, quirky.
Weaknesses:
Jealous, appearance insecurities, naïve, causes problems, hard to track down and hard to keep in one place and often breaks things.

History:
Lottie knows nothing about the world that she was lucky enough to have escaped from before she had any memories. She doesn't know that her birth mother and father were practically starving while searching The Waste for something, anything to eat. She doesn't know that savage canine creatures attacked her family, and her mother died from these things. She doesn't know that her mortally wounded father pulled from from her dead mother and ran to a small bit of ruins while the dogs tore apart her mother's corpse.

She didn't know that she and her father were Folded over onto Earth Prime until she was told. He died shortly after their arrival, bleeding to death with his baby girl in his arms. Lottie was taken from the last of her family and given the name Charlotte Moon after a missionary from the 1800's.

Outside of that, Charlie was raised like a normal girl. When she was young, she barely noticed her differences with the other kids. Sure, some of them may have acted odd around her, but her friends and her sweet personality made those strange occurrences disappear. Though better at simple games like tag and hide-and-go-seek, Lottie didn't feel like she was pushed away from others in the slightest.

Perhaps it would have been easier for her if she had been a wallflower. She wasn't, though. She was loud and kind and active. Lottie's personality was known, and she was happy for a long time.

It was near the end of Junior High that Charlie began to feel the gap between her and her more human-looking friends widen. Girls and boys started to date and hook up and dance with one another at the social events. No one wanted Lottie. She was alone. Even worse, the young girl knew it was because of how she looked. She was different. She has shed many tears over the fact that she isn't pretty. Now she tries her best to look like a human. She put false eyelashes over her eyes to hide the fact that she has none. She also uses makeup, and is in denial about how it helps her look more like a human, because it doesn't.

She is a loner with a plethora of friends now. She doesn't run around with a certain crowd by any means, she just is herself. Charlotte loves people, but it's just more natural for her to be on her own for now.

Unique Powers/Abilities:
Charlie's physiology is unique in many ways. Her agility surpasses that of an Olympic level gymnast, and her skeletal structure allows her extreme flexibility, and she can contort her body in odd ways without even realizing it. Her balance, speed, coordination are super-enhanced. She can cling to surfaces with her hands and her feet, giving her the nickname “Spidergirl” when she was little. Luckily, the name didn't stick, ironically. She also possesses superhuman dexterity. If she tells her body to do it, it probably can and will.

(from Moth's account)
Moth looked back toward the lady she did not recognize, her eyes bright with tears, and shiny trails left on her cheeks from where they had traveled. She was speaking, but not in any tongue that Moth knew. She blinked, trying to concentrate and find the pattern, hopefully so she could learn and speak it back. She needed to know what was going on.

Here and there the words the other woman spoke sounded almost familiar. Gently, Moth bobbed up and down, watching as the woman said the vaguely remarkable words. She spoke in a tone that was odd to Moth, and how she simply got up and started looking at and examining the Umbran without approaching her Antumbran first. Was basic etiquette lost on this short-haired woman?

Moth's heart fell. Mayfly wasn't there. She wasn't sure where Mayfly was. Maybe she had come with Moth to this place! Maybe she was somewhere around, being found by another woman with-

Moth's thoughts cut off as the lady produced an object that made Moth's brows furrow. She blinked again. What was it? Magic? No, Moth couldn't feel or manipulate the magic around it. It wasn't magic. She sighed, licking her lips. The other was about Moth's age, maybe a year or two difference between them, if that. With that, Moth stood, allowing the woman to do what she pleased with her non-magic magic... thing. She stood tall, the morning glories in her hair opening up and turning white proudly. She listened carefully to the words her guide said, picking up a few terms and roots.

"Ayi dete reconnais yewn.*" She let her feet lift up, floating gently so she was looking the other girl in the eyes. "Essuse mais, lùp suis-je avi a` Seis? Antumbran lai beenfore ousi hert.**"

She knew that most of her words were wrong, but the girl had seemed to understand her before. Perhaps she knew the words that Moth tried to speak. Either way, she was desperate, and doing her best to hold in more of her tears. She had seen the memory crystals of the times before the Bonding. She had seen the Antumbrans and how things fell and broke and caused so much devastation alone. For May to be alone.... Moth shuddered at the thought.
Moth took a hold of the woman's arm, desperate enough to break her manners. She floated to be sure she looked the woman directly in her brown eyes. "Plaise 'elp mais.***"

(translation notes:
*I do not recognize you
**Pardon my rudeness, but am I still on Seis? I must get back to my Antumbran before she gets hurt.
*** Please help me.)
