Day 19, noon

Another Wave. So many people died in the last few days. How many more people had to die? Ice stared at the plane as it descended. The Aqua sniffed and rubbed her eyes.

This Wave was a little early, but it was no doubt thanks to the numerous deaths that had occurred recently. Of course the Omnipotent wanted more subjects to fill in for the deceased. Ice's eyes narrowed. She felt like she was burning inside.

She glared at the airplane as it stopped nearby. She marched toward it and waited for the subjects to step off. Someone had to break the news to them, and of course it had to be her.

shariah

His stomach was churning.

It was one thing to be suddenly told that he was leaving home for possibly forever, without any family or staff to help him out, but another entirely to have to catch an aeroplane to get there! What was his mother thinking?! The boy was feeling incredibly sick after the ordeal of a flight, stumbling out of the plane like a wounded puppy. Where was the nearest bathroom? Uurrgghh...

"... Where the hell are we?" Muttered Shariah, staring at the sandy beach with one arm huddled over his own stomach. He hadn't even spoken to anyone else on the flight - he'd been too busy clinging to his seat belt, or with his face buried into the seat beside him in terror. Arceus knows who would be stepping out of the plane behind him. He just about had enough sense left in him to stagger off to the side, allowing the others a little room to move before parking his hind quarters firmly on the sand with a groan. Man, he did not feel well.

"An island paradise!" Lance, the newcomer psychsomething had arrived on the island only two days ago, and now he had decided to receive the first patch of arrivals during his time here. His appearance was the usual, black Team Rocket suit, red shirt and sunglasses. His hair was tied to a ponytail, and his hands were in the pockets of his suit pants. "Hey, Ice." He said, casually as if he'd known the female scientist for a long time. "I figured I'd come and back you up with this lot."

Reianna was anxious during the whole flight. She wouldn't have really spoken to anyone else on the plane. She would have kept to herself, listening to some music on her headphones while they flew to try and calm her down. Of course, that didn't help her any. Cyberblue was used to going to places far away from family, though this was the first time the girl was doing it to do something productive in her life. Somehow, she got lucky enough to get picked for this big project they were whispering about. Something more productive than getting kicked out from her old band and turning into a miserable alcoholic. Something more productive than staying in bed all day being depressed as hell. This was her chance!

When the aeroplane landed and the passengers were asked to leave, Reianna packed up her headphones and strode right down from the ramp and onto the beach with the luggage she had to carry. She didn't really speak to Shariah, not yet at least, though she did nod to Ice and Lance. Reianna made a big smile and nodded to the two - especially Lance,
"Yeah, this looks like a pretty fun island! You guys sure have been secretive, though. I tried learning more about the whole operation when I applied, but uh, I didn't really find much. I'd assume you guys'll talk about it with us, right? You two look like you're part of staff or some-such."

Reianna totally played right into their hands.

As the rather spacious – at least for a sea plane – aerocraft began its descent, Devereau decided that no, she did not like aeroplanes. They were stuffy, cramped, and lacking in privacy. Not to mention that she had expected the metal bird to plummet out of the sky into the ocean below, burying everyone inside with it.
“Naw, such a thing ain’t gonna happen, ‘specially while I’m flying this thing,” the pilot had said. “This ‘ere bird’s as reliable as any ole Pidgeot. Did you know, there is a greater chance of dying from a blow to the head via coconut than a plane crash?”

Dev had tuned the gentleman out after he said ‘reliable’. While he – and her three fellow passengers – seemed to absolutely trust the machine, she was not as sure. And the landing the plane made; while the pilot tried his best to make it smooth, Dev was still clutching the handle bar parallel to her seat, knuckles white and her hand beginning to cramp. In an attempt to make herself appear less rattled than she really was she straightened out the new creases in her white, loose-fitting vintage pirate shirt and the navy tank top underneath. They were advised to pack for warm weather, although she brought along a sweater or two, and so she did; ridiculously, she was already beginning to sweat.

“Ladies and gentleman, we have officially made it to the island,” the pilot said, unbuckling from his seat. “As smooth a landing as ever, if I do say so myself.” He grinned and brushed his hands together, as if dusting them off. “Make sure to grab all of your belongings, because you will not be getting them back if they are left.”

Devereau cut her eyes to the pilot, catching the subtle innuendo. For a moment she wondered what he meant, but he was already hitting a button that opened the door and released the stairs, so she was unable to mention it. Instead she shut her Pokégear off and set it in the pocket of her laptop case. She had figured there would be a chance of no internet service, but she could still use her computer for an electronic journal. She’d brought her art tablet along, too, to keep up her drawing in between research.

After she had her case situated on her shoulder she stood to retrieve her duffel bag, and pulled it up over her other shoulder. She looked around, seeing that everyone else had already made a move to head for the door. As much as she hated to follow, she couldn’t stand being in the metal bird any longer.

She let out a sigh and made toward the exit, her sandals making next to no sound until she started down the stairs; thankfully, the racket quieted once she touched down onto the sandy beach. She then set her duffel bag down, her shoulder already beginning to ache. She glanced at the red haired kid – what was his name, Shariah? – and then back at the plane, as if the last of their crew would poke creep on out, and then took a look around.

Warm, sunny weather with a slight breeze, clear blue water lapping up against the sand, tropical palm trees, even somewhat island-style buildings (not). And the short, petite Team Aqua member standing near the plane, seemingly waiting for them with another guy… Team Rocket? Great...

“Oh, great,” Devereau murmured under her breath, already disappointed. More crime syndicates. What in hell is a Team Aqua member doing here?? And why is that pink-haired girl rambling on about fun and assumptions? Can she not see the Aqua and Rocket uniforms? She dared not to say any of this out loud, though, although she already wished she had her Haxorus, Riddick, at her side.

“Seems to me this meeting is already taking a turn south…”

if i ever leave this world alive, i'll take on all the sadness that i left behind

Libba wasn't quite sure what to expect when she signed up for this 'research project', but, this... it definitely wasn't it. The flight itself wasn't bad; no, it was quite nice actually. Libba liked being airborne. She had only received the chance to fly one other time, when she was a lot younger. It was when she was spending time with one of her close friends. That friends parents had been travelers in their youth, and had accumulated a good score of pokemon... most of which had been given away, to their children, or had become house pets. They had a Pidgeot that was such a house pet, occasionally flying off to deliver mail when they had some to send. Flying like that, it was such an exhilarating experience... it wasn't the same in an airplane, but it was a familiar feeling, so luckily Libba didn't experience motion sickness or anything of the sort.

During the flight, Libba had been less than social. She would have been fine to carry on a conversation, had anyone initiated one; stringing along sentences was something that she was easy at. But everyone seemed to be haunted, having their own reasons for doing this, and Libba wasn't about to explore them. Everyone had their own demons, even her. She was perfectly contented sitting in her seat, staring out the window, music filling her head through her small headphones while she occasionally scribbled down random thoughts and such in her very torn notebook. Silence, it was something that she welcomed. There was a lot to think about, with this radical change in lifestyle she had taken... especially since she had absolutely no idea what to expect. This "group" had been less than helpful with their pamphlets of information, or lack thereof.

When the plane landed on the sandy beach, Libba felt every nerve in her body clench up. It didn't feel right, and she was sure it was a mixture of anxiousness, nervousness and second thoughts. But there was no turning back now. She followed the others off the plane, shielding her eyes from the sun for a brief moment before blinking away the change in brightness, and taking in her surroundings. Where on earth were they? Some kind of island... Libba swallowed when she took note of the Rocket and Aqua uniforms. Definitely was not expecting that one. She glanced from side to side, at the two girls who spoke around her. One who seemed a little gullible, and another much more of a realist. This was definitely a turn south...

Ice leered at Lance. That crazy new guy had to butt into this, of all things.

"I - I can handle this myself," Ice snapped. It was hard to keep herself from cracking after so many deaths, especially Malcom's.

She glanced at the red-haired boy, though didn't answer his question. There were more important topics to discuss.

"There wasn't much information for a reason," Ice said. "Yes, I'm here to talk to you all about it. You probably won't like what I say."

A pause. She grimaced.

"You see, you're not here to just research legendary Pokemon. You're here to... become one. You can still look up information on them, I guess, but, the point is... you'll become pokemorphs of the Pokemon you chose. You'll all be infused with their DNA."

Lance didn't react to Ice's comment about his presence, after all he wasn't really there for the scientist, but rather for the subjects. To see how the new arrivals took the news and if needed, help them to get used to the idea of becoming something inhuman. Lance had never been fond of the other organizations, Team Rocket was the oldest and the best, and he had always thought if things came down to it - Team Rocket would prevail, over the others.

Lance gave Reianna's 'reply', a simple faint smile, wondering how the girl could possibly have not noticed Ice's Team Aqua uniform or the infamous 'R' on his suit. The next two, however, obviously took notice of Lance's and Ice's clothing and probably realized they weren't here just for a relaxing research opportunity, on a tropical island. "Here we go." Lance thought, when Ice began to tell the four newcomers about what was really going on.

The Rocket executive, adjusted his sunglasses as Ice finished and observed the reactions of the four. He grinned slightly, "But come on, look at the bright side! Here you have a beautiful tropical island to accommodate you, with a beach, sunlight almost twenty-four-seven and a staff full of experts, to make sure all is well for you, during your stay here. The food court is full of all kinds of treats, from around the world and there's even a pool. So really, this is like a luxury resort for rich people and you don't have to pay a dime! Just let us throw some legendary Pokémon DNA into you, and you know- see what happens." Lance's grin widened. "And hey, in the absolute worst case scenario, you develop some superpowers. How is this a bad deal, eh?"

Annie had heard a new wave was coming today, and so, she had strolled down the beach today. Unfortunately, as she approached, the new subjects had already gotten off the plane and were talking. As she approached, she caught the tail end of Ice's explanation, and heard the voice of a man, taller than her, with white hair and a team Rocket suit. She figured he must be the new staff member.

She stopped when she reached the group, and smiled at Lance's explanation, then scanned over the new subjects. Most seemed to have taken note of the team uniforms, and appeared uncomfortable with it. But hey, what the heck. Why wouldn't they be, after all they'd likely heard of the teams?

"Hiya, Ice." A smile crossed her face, and she looked to the others. "Welcome to the island."

shariah

The bag he had with him probably didn't look like it could hold much - certainly not enough to keep a grown man going. However, Shariah was an expert at folding and could hide away almost any kind of fabric in the smallest of spaces. Besides, without much muscle on him, there wasn't a great deal Shariah could carry around easily, and he was not lugging around some gigantic suitcase and making a fool of himself. No sir.

Right now, of course, he was more preoccupied with not vomiting. Still staring at the floor in an effort to regain some kind of stability, the boy could just about pay attention to the words being spoken around him. Admittedly, he hadn't paid much heed to who he had been sharing the aeroplane with - three girls, by the sound of things. And they were all just as clueless as he was, albeit with different approaches to the situation. One in particular sounded far too happy. Groaning, the drama king flopped onto his back, only finding the strength to twist awkwardly in order to spy the... locals? Pssh, Shariah had no idea who they were.

Although what the blue-clad woman spoke of sent a cold shiver run down his spine. Which didn't help his stomach feel any better, either.

Whirling back to his knees - and making himself feel thoroughly dizzy in the process - Shariah barked at the pair of official-looking locals.

"We're going to... become... what?!" Snapped the boy, before having to rest his head on an arm. Whoa, he did not feel well. Maybe it was the heat, maybe the journey over here, but Shariah felt like he was going to pass out... or hurl, either way.

“You’re here to… become one. You can still look up information on them, I guess, but. The point is… you’ll become Pokémorphs of the Pokémon you chose. You’ll all be infused with their DNA.”

“And, there’s the catch.” Devereau said it flatly, and with only the slightest trace of near contempt. She knew something was sketchy about this entire setup. Secluded island, the bare minimum of information, multiple crime organizations working together. That was actually a surprise. She wondered if there had been anyone before them who had figured it out before the news was dropped.

She glanced at the girl who had come out last, the only one of them who hadn’t said a word since they’d come off the plane. What was her opinion on it?
From the look on the Team Aqua member’s face, she seemed to like the project less and less…

Devereau’s eyes narrowed on the unfamiliar girl as she strode up to stand near the bearers of bad news. Welcome? Oh yes, she felt truly welcomed.

“We’re going to… become… what?! Her sharp scrutiny of the three people facing her was disrupted by the boy’s outburst, and she swung her glare to him. Melodrama wasn’t going to help them. She watched as he dropped to his knees and then spun around. It was really ridiculous.

“But come on, look at the bright side!” And a boatload of other nonsense that the white-haired man should have known would not make them feel any better – especially Mr. Drama Queen. Dev’s eyebrow arched upward at the Rocket member’s face-splitting grin. “Are you serious?” she repeated, sounding almost incredulous. “A bad deal?” Legendaries were dangerous, no matter how enthralling and mesmerizing they appeared. To be Giratina, her Legendary of choice. Arceus forbid this has been allowed to go on.

From the Aqua’s expression – Ice – it had been. “We’re not the first to be told this.” It was a statement rather than a question, as Devereau actually looked at the brunette, who was neither Team Aqua nor Team Rocket.

Reianna let the others speak as the drama seemed to commence before her. Really, this was the first time that the recluse had gone out into a semi-public area with the intention to speak to others in a very long time.

The fact of that seclusion only truly hit the ex-star right there. Realization hit when she had spoken her mind without much of a thought, most people seemed to look at her oddly - even those members of staff who had come to greet her. That realization wasn't even that Ice and Lance were part of two infamous teams, it was that Reianna really didn't know much about the world anymore. There was something big that totally flew right over her head and out of sight. Something was making her feel terribly embarrassed, like she had said something that would mark her as a naive idiot for a long time to come. So, the brightly red haired girl just stayed quiet while everyone got the news... boy was it news.

Reianna just stayed right where she was and didn't make a sound. DNA modification into a Pokemon? That was new - just how much was she ignorant to? The girl couldn't even think straight - she couldn't believe something so ridiculous. The reactions of the others did not register to cyberblue as she stood there. Was DNA infusion even possible on a scale like that? Sure, it sounded a lot more probable with other Pokemon, but people barely know how a legendary Pokemon works, let alone the code of its genetic databank! What are they doing, shoving the crap into their bodies, crossing their fingers and hoping for the best? If they managed to splice the DNA into their own cells, who the hell knows what would happen? They would all die! At least, those were all of the thoughts that the woman had while she got the news.

Then, there was still the fact of the deception to get over. That... that wasn't something Reianna's mind wanted to get started on just yet. The girl already felt light-headed trying to make sense of why people looked at her so oddly while trying to take the doom sayers seriously, taking on any more big turnarounds would just push the poor thing over the edge.

"I said pokemorphs," Ice said, in case the red-headed boy didn't hear, which she was guessing had happened.

"If you don't believe me, you can go look for people on the island who have already had it done."

The Aqua glanced toward Annie. If the girl was willing to demonstrate, then Ice wasn't going to complain.

Annie looked to Devereau as she spoke, and nodded to confirm what the girl had said. "There have been several groups that already came." She kept an eye on the others now, scanning through Reianna and Shariah, who both looked as though they didn't feel well.

"If you don't believe me, you can go look for other people on the island who have already had it done." When Ice looked to her, Annie smiled slightly.

"You mean me, Ice?" She turned back to address the others. "I chose Manaphy to study." She paused her sentence for a moment to walk through to the opposite side of the group, closer to the water. She made a tugging motion with her hand at the sea, and a stream of water came up, and floated in midair, near her hand. She quickly formed it into a sphere, and let it rest in the air a few inches above one hand. "A water pokemon."

The grin that appeared across Ice's face was hesitant and small, but a grin nonetheless.

"Thank you, Annie," she said, giving a nod of her head. She looked over the expressions of the four arrivals again, half expected the boy to fall out again or the tall black-haired girl to make some kind of remark. At least no one was reaching for her throat, as so many others had seemed to do. There's one in every crowd...

"So," Ice went on, "there is your proof, for those of you who most likely wanted it. If you didn't... well..." She cocked her head briefly towards Lance. "He's here if you want to have an emotional breakdown." This next grin that spread her mouth was somewhat more genuine, as she assumed she had just given the OK for the subjects to overwhelm the Rocket with any complaints or problems they would have.

"Any questions?"
