A desolate swampland, the Tramdine Fens is almost always shrouded in darkness. It seems to have an effect over those who enter, a sort of gloomy feel that seeps to your very bones. The spirits of the dead are said to walk/float here.

The Fens lie just southeast of Flourgis.

The village that Golbez visited first to meet the small child had quite an empty feeling to it; the people were still in the village they just seemed empty, that is except for the little girl that posted the bill.

When he first met her she pointed out that he looked "able" and began to describe her puppy in great detail and then went on to explain what had happened. Once all that information had been forced upon him he bid the child farewell and parted for the Tramdine Fens

Golbez appeared at the swamps entrance and scanned over the surroundings; a thin, wicked mist hung in the air around the swamp. Death encircles everything here. Poor souls. Golbez flipped his cape and slightly raised himself off the ground, he glided over the swamp waters and began his search for the puppy.

Golbez stopped when he heard the faint barking sound, however he couldn't pinpoint it exactly; the sound seemed to be coming from all over. He tried to focus on the source but was interrupted by the sounds of moans. "Hmm?" Golbez looked around and then caught the slight movement in the mist as two skeletons with swords drug themselves from the dirt.

The skeletons raised their blades and ran at Golbez. "GET...oUt!!!" Golbez dodged the blades and then began to charge a Firaga spell in each hand. "Lost souls, rest now." Golbez unleashed both spells on the skeletons; the flames ripped apart the bones and melted the blades so that nothing was left to reform.

With the monsters dispatched Golbez turned his attention back to his prior task, however now the barking was gone and this left him with no choose but continue in and hope he chose the right path.

As Golbez followed his path in further a barking sound could be heard. From the mist a small dog trotted out. For being in the swamp this long it had a surprisingly clean look to it. Noticing Golbez it barked at him and playfully ran in a circle before going back into the mist.

Bouncing along happily, its collar jingled with a tag. Embossed upon it was the name "Areia".

The barking caught Golbez's attention immediately since there wasn't many other to distract him, Golbez then stopped and landed on the ground, he then reached his hand at to the dog hoping it would come to him. "Come now, she is waiting for you." The dog simply barked at him and ran back into the mist.

"Wait!" Golbez was to late the pup was gone in the mist and now he had to follow it once again. "What a bother." Golbez sighed and began his decent deeper into the maze.

Further in, Areia stood by a tree, pawing at the ground, digging something up. As Golbez moved closer, she barked happily at him, seeming to call him over before beginning her dig again.

Through the mist Golbez noticed a massive tree in the middle of the landscape and then the dog stood barking and then digging at the base of the tree, this time was different Golbez was able to approach the dog completely without it running off.

"Come now. Your master is worried sick about you." Golbez reached out to pick up the dog but it dodged him playfully and began to dig in the dirt again. "Perhaps something important is buried there? Fine, you win I'll watch you until your done." Golbez crossed his arms as the dog looked back at him and gave him a reassured bark before returning to its hole.

Golbez looked around gloomy swamp and then shook himself slightly. An ominous air is blowing.

Several meters behind Golbez, the earth began to shift, soft murk giving way to a pale arm that clawed its way out. Devoid of flesh in many places, the hand scrabbled at the other dirt on the rest of its body, revealing a guant corpselike figure clad in a dirty brown tunic and pants.

Nearby a second Zombie rose from the earth. They began to shamble towards Golbez. Areia looked up from her digging and barked at them several times.

A ominous chuckle could be heard on the wind as a Deathscythe appeared above the zombie. It flexed its claws in anticipation as its Zombie counterparts made their way to Golbez.

The sudden barking broke Golbez from his trance like thoughts and his focused now set on the Zombies heading for him and then the deathly laughter filled the air and then took a hideous form, one that Golbez has never seen, Golbez lifted slightly off the ground as he readied for battle against these twisted creatures.

"The dead should stay that way." Golbez lifted his hand as the Firaga spell ignited and was slammed into the first Zombie; igniting the brittle clothing and engulfing the monster. "You had your time here and fell. Stop interfering with those that still live!" Golbez teleported in front of the second one, a couple inches from it, and threw his hand up; the plume of dark fire rose from under the Zombie and ripped apart the figure.

The wind blew, flickering Golbez's cape as he stared down Deathscythe. "A creature that feeds on death and manipulates the souls of the lost shall find defeat this day." Golbez flipped his cape, between his hands an orb of energy began to charge, once it was at full power Golbez threw it with all his might as the Deathscythe. "Fall before my might!" The orb flew like a bullet at the monster.

The deathscythe replied by way of another chuckle as it shimmered and disappeared, the orb of shadow energy missing it. Reappearing behind Golbez, it cast a Darkra spell at the thaumaturge.

The firaga spell burned away the ragged clotheing of its target and seared the decaying flesh. Slabs of burnt flesh dropped to the ground as it continued its death march towards Golbez, outstretched arms reaching for him. Its mouth moved yet no words emanated from it. Below Golbez the earth began to bubble in a poisonous miasma.

The one assailed by Golbez's shadow plume was thrust backward though only its top half was. It's legs remained where they were for a second before falling to the ground. The torso began to pull itself to Golbez, bony fingers scrabbling in the dirt to get a grip on his body.

Once the Deathscythe vanished Golbez scanned the area trying to spot it before it could sneak attack him, however his attention was drawn away by the zombie still on its feet. Golbez moved to blow it away with another spell but then the Deathscythe appeared again and slammed a dark attack into him. The spell was unlike anything in his world but he was still able to stand strong. "Annoyances are everywhere today! So be it!"

Golbez was now positioned in the middle of his three assailants, with his magic making him float above the ground he could ignore the miasma...for the moment at least. A dark energy began to swirl around Golbez; the zombie that kept reaching for him found that the shadowy cloak wasn't meant to be touched, the shadows burned the flesh and pushed it back with force.

The shadows swirled faster before Golbez pushed the power down and then glyphs appeared under each target and exploded darkness skyward.

The Nightglow obliterated the zombie that crawled like a worm on the ground, body blown away by shadow power. The one that had cast miasma was also ripped apart by the spell but not before the spell completed and the poisonous earth below Golbez burbled up like living tar, trying to drag him into its muck.

The deathscythe was stricken back, a pained face now gracing its features. It struck down with scythe-like claws at Golbez, aimed to rip him to shreads.

Golbez took notice to the miasma bubbling below him; as it tried to pull him down Golbez did a short teleport away from the muck. Once he reappeared he scanned all over trying to find the Deathscythe again.

The beast hadn't moved far after the Nightglow but then dashed at him ready to tear him apart. "Foul beast. Leave this world to those that remain." Golbez flew at the monster to meet it head on, Golbez allowed the claw to hit his massive pauldron and threw the claw off.

He then grabbed hold of the beasts arm and pulled it into the Flare spell that he had been charging. "Know sleep once again." Golbez unleashed the Flare into the monsters face.

As its claws struck down on Golbez's pauldron, the Deathscythe's ominous chuckle began anew. Before it realized what had happened, Golbez had grabbed it and a Flare spell began to charge in his other hand.

"Know sleep once again."

The chuckle stopped and what could only be described as a look of horror crossed the face of the Deathscythe before it was obilterated by the Flare spell. Its ashes fell to the ground before Golbez.

As soon as the fight was over, Areia trotted over, a white T-bone in her mouth.

Golbez let out a sigh of relief as the ashes of the Deathscythe scattered in the wind and a bonus was that the dog found what it was looking for.

Golbez looked down to Areia. "Can we go now?" The pup let out a cheerful bark and allowed Golbez to pick her up, with that Golbez cast teleport and within seconds was back in the village.

Once he arrived the little girl came running over with a giant smile on her face and collected her puppy, she then handed him his rewards and thanked him over and over again for saving her. He then waved to her as she ran off with her dog.

Hopefully, they'll stay away from the swamps now. Golbez felt a weird warmth inside that he hadn't felt for so long. He liked it; Golbez then cast teleport again and then was once again gone.
