The Kingdom of Arretia is the remnant of the old Empire of Arretia. Now it rules only the Xsar Uplands, its only major city the ancient capital of Arretium.

Knightdom of Cariath
The Knightdom is a peaceful country on the banks of the Emerald River. Many small villages are scattered throughout the tilled valleys, all owing fealty to the Lord Knight in Cariath. In theory, the Lord Knight owes fealty to a regional lord who in turn owes fealty to the King in Arretium -- but the regional lord faded from history long ago, and the knightdom drifted into independence.

Duchy of Clavis
In theory, the Duchy comprises the Isle of Reclude and the surrounding waters. In practice, it is equivalent to the town of Clavis. The Duke declared independence in the wake of the Esper War, and Arretia was in no position to contest the issue.

Marquisate of Krystal
The March of Krystal encompasses the Krystalvault Forest and the slopes of Mt. Krystalheim, though the only areas of civilization are city of Krystal itself and the Ice Temple on the neighbouring peak of Mt. Isa. The majority of the population are Espers, as is the Marquis, gigiving the nation a distinctly different feel from the rest of Arretia.

City-State of Merryhaven
Merryhaven received a royal charter making it autonomous in its affairs even before the Empire collapsed. Its main interests are mercantile, so it does not control mcuh land beyond the estuary of the Princess River where it is built.

Barony of Thorel
The Barony claims the eastern Dondasch Hills and the Greatwood north of the river Aria. Very little of this land is actually controlled, however, Thorel village being as much as the Baron's limited resources can guard.
