space ILOVE it

I finally finished moving the furniture today. And cleaning. There's enough dust in this place to fill the bottom of the Yazoo. I put everything in its place and found some flowers in the back that look beautiful in the bedroom and the living room. I wish I could find some sugar cane. My mama says sugar keeps plucked flowers from dying in the house.

I've been here for two years now and only this morning did I wake up to see the sunrise. I think the sun is much more beautiful here. Looks almost the same as in Mississippi. I sat on the back porch swing, humming an old song my daddy taught me when I was little. The same song I sung when I first met Victor.

He and his friends had stumbled into Johnnie's club, looking for a good time. I wasn't in Harlem that night; Johnnie decided he was going to do something new. Of course, allowing a black woman to perform for the returning soldiers was something new and very risky. But that was Johnnie.

It was Victor's eyes that caught me. I was a weak one for soldiers already, but he was just so beautiful and charming. After I sang, I found myself at the bar, right next to him. We talked and danced all night and after those few moments with him, I could not bring myself to forget about him. And now every time I think about him or see him, it just makes me realize how empty this house is with just me living in it.

But I still can't bring myself to tell anyone outside of his family. What would my family think if I were to bring him down to Mississippi? I can already hear the church gossip. But sometimes I get to the point where I don't even care. I just want to be with him. And surely my parents are constantly writing about grandchildren.
