Umm here is just a compilation of sketches i did a couple days ago, spent about an huor or two sketching. Tried tro emulate the versions of lan and mayl which have been relased as offical art for the game in development here. Couldn't quite get lan's hair or Mayl. >.<

What do you guys think, any pointers to help get a closer version of Lan and Mayl?

Mayl's eye seems a bit too long for the clsoe up and the second sword arm looks like it's bending upwards through the elbow (something everyone knows isn't possible without breaking the arm). Apart from some of the lines being faint, it's good...

<__< If I had to be honest, that development artwork's going to hit the gutter the instant we get somebody who can do standard EXE style, or at least better than the art we have. My HCM's firing off more often than when I looked at Piano's early artwork and go over my own.

In short, do what you're comfortable with.

@Untaken
yeah i had real trouble drawing mayl's eyes, had to redo many times and it still didn't look right, thanks for identifying what was wrong smile.gif.

@He Who Adds Order.
Awh, but i really like Lan's design =(.
Btw, what is the standard EXE style. Is it the more rounded heads, and the simpler sideview of the head? or is there a certain anatomy ratio that is used?.

Also, wats HCM stand for? o.o

Hyper Critique Mode. Basically, I've stared at artwork and proportions while doing character and story analysis for so damned long that I can instantly detect almost anything and everything that's off. Throw in a mind that's so ****ed up that it's learning all the more depressing aspects of philosophy on its own, and you literally have the makings for the ultimate asshole critic at your fingertips.

And let me just say, that the art we have is not even close to the artist's best works. If my HCM's going off in my head, it usually means that the artwork is QUALITY.

@He who Adds Order

Woah HCM sounds like an awsome skill to haveeee @_@ I wish i had the experience to accurately pinpoint where the anatomy is wrong, rather than just the general feeling that something is just off =/
But i guess that comes with practice and compairing it to references.

Meh, I'm rusty. I don't find issues until I actually start looking into it, anyways. To be quite frank, it's just the feeling that something is off as you said, just honed to a slightly more potent level. It doesn't mean much. That combined with an asshole attitude and the ability to go off like crazy is what forms HCM. Note that if you ever reach this level, you're either a master of your craft or outright insane. For me, it's the latter.

If you're going for anatomy for starters...There are a few artists whose works are more than enough to look at. Only, they're NSFW. If you're interested I can show you a few and even provide you with a few artbooks.

Who'd expect something like this from a 16-year-old(me), no?

And yet, HCW is all kinds of nasty to be one the receiving end of. Useful but nasty. Still, would it be fine to give BlueTuesdays a copy of the tut Ngaurhoth found on EXE style?

I've encountered some people like you who note the smallest of inaccuracies in anatomy and talk to them on a regular basis =P They usually hang around to this chat room on Deviantart that i normally Frequent. :3

Umm those links would be awsome, same goes for the artbooks. Names would suffice, cause it shoul;dn't be too hard to like find them on the net to dl. I'm hoping to start really improving on my drawings, I've just finished highschool and haven't done any art at school for many years =D. Going to have alotta spare time to draw once my exams are over =P.

Which part shouldn't i expect? The part about the NSFW refrences? or that you are so atuned to the proprtions of a person? The first is probably not so surprising =P , the second is unexpected

It's like this. I can understand really bleak, depressing philosophy. I can analyze everything from classics to manga on a philosophical scale. I've read REALLY REALLY disturbing h-manga and I can say "meh" in the face of a completely difigured corpse. As for NSFW, they're borderline. I could give you REALLY disturbing stuff, but then I'd be banned.

All that is what you shouldn't expect. 10 years in the US then suddenly moving to a technologically advanced social hellhole like South Korea combined with depression, endless thought cycles, an English Literature professor who happens to be a philosophy geek, a bleak-looking future, a sense of hopelessness, and a particularly emotional(and somewhat gender-neutral) mind will do that to you. Going through h-manga and pornography in an attempt to see just how sick and twisted humanity can be hasn't helped me either.

Of course, this is really quite nothing when you consider how much some people know.

Yes, I know that I'm likely to be a hopeless kid, a hobo, or a miserable intellectual for the rest of my life. So? It's fun to give and receive pain. SADOMASOCHISM FTW. Note: The last two sentences are obviously not serious.

Not as bad as you think. Losing yourself is bad. Being aware of everything you do to yourself and just barely hanging onto life through whatever means possible? Not even close to bad. And who's to say I don't fap? Maybe I do, maybe I don't. Even though I'm willing to talk my mind on the net and in real life, there are things that I'll never speak. But what's really agonizing, cruel, and bad, is that there are things I quite literally can't speak due to a lack of the ability to describe them.

It's a burden, but it's what really gives me the ability to do what makes me happy.

Yeah, everyone has something that they don't and probably can't share with the world
