Long time no see, hey?
We're extremely sorry to keep you all waiting for the grand reopening of Envious Magic, and we're extremely grateful if you've managed to stick around! You'll be glad to see that our absence hasn't been completely pointless, though, as we've made various updates throughout the site which we hope will help increase activity as well as make it a more enjoyable place to roleplay  - Canon List.
- here. We've created a new and much improved list which provides lots of new opportunities across all of the organisations here at EM, so go check it out! If you played a canon character before the closure of EM only to find that they are now available, but you would like to continue roleplaying them, please PM a member of staff and we'll try and fix the situation.
- 'Positions Within Organisations' thread.

It came to our attention that the roles within each of the organsiations weren't always clear, and so we have created this handy list for members to read through and give an overview of the organisations - their aims and enemies, their members and what they do - so that if you do decide to take up a canon character who is involved with a group, you have background information on their role. It's really reccomended that you read, be you a new member or old 
- Plot Developments and Changes.
- You may or may not have noticed that the date at [EM] has moved back, and we are currently in January, 1998. Currently, the students of Hogwarts are on their Christmas holidays, therefore areas outside of Hogwarts are open for a limited time, including Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. In addition to these forums, we are re-introducing 'House' forums which you can apply for. For more information on these, please look here. Towards the end of [EM] January, we will open the Hogwarts Express for roleplaying.
- Forum Clean Up.
- Various areas of the forum have been cleared, including plots and the plotting panatheon. If you wish to retrieve either, please PM a member of staff who will be able to retrieve it for you.
- Staff.
- Just as a small notice to let you know that if any staff members are currently away, their name will be put in italics on the sideboard. Currently Jess and Megan are around when they can be, but are extremely busy right now with other commitments, so if you have an urgent problem please PM any of the mods or the Administrator account (:
Things to look forward to in the coming months:
- Further, more in-depth plot developments.
- Increased activity and updates from staff.
- Hogwarts Re-opening.
- Opportunities for you to become fully involved with the organisations and their activities.

So it's about time things were updated around here. I'm open to suggestions, etc. so please do reply if there's anything that needs changing which hasn't been.
Lessons
I have marked all lessons where the professor is now inactive, and moved the lessons to the Recycling Bin. Please check the pinned topics for your grades.

As many of you may have realised, [EM] has been going through a phase of inactivity lately. However, over the past couple of months the Moderators - with occasional input and approval from the Admins when they find the time to get on - have been busy with getting the plot rolling, which has otherwise been on hold for quite a while now.
We have decided that a cut down on members (such as those with inactive Plot or Canon characters) seems appropriate. All those who have been inactive for three months or more, without a valid excuse, will be put back up for application. Those who have not be active on their Canon or Plot accounts, but have been active within that three month period on their other accounts will be PMed and asked if they wish to keep their account.
Any new sortings, Ministry files and applications will be checked and dealt with on a more regular basis, and Ministry degrees will also be posted more frequently.
We have also decided to push the timeline back to January, as it seems alot of the key plot points were not covered quite so well as we had originally planned. We hope that by making that move we can go back over all those significant plot points and build up the organisations again. From there, we will continue to progress through the school year as normal.
Also, I would like to bring everyone's attention to the topic in the Board Maintenance forum; if everyone could post any suggestions they may have there, it would be greatly appreciated.
We hope that we can get the ball rolling again. A Mass Email may also be sent shortly after everything is back in motion. If any of you have any questions you wish to ask, don't hesitate to PM me.

Raich has been at EM for a while now, and has been a wonderful and active RPer here. You may have notice that she's been particularly active lately, and we know you're probably thinking it's about time she got this award! We're very glad to have her here, and hope you will join us in making her aware of this. As a reward we have given 20 house points to Gryffindor, and added 50 money to her account. Congratulations to our new Character of the Moment, Raven Dreams (aka Colby)!
Colby has been a member for...well...forever! Lately it seems as if she's come back with a vengeance. One can't go anywhere around the board without seeing a post from her, and she has been a huge help to the staff as well. This award doesn't seem like enough to thank her for all she's done. I know I speak for all of us when I say that we're glad to have you around again Colby! As a reward we have given 20 house points to Slytherin, and added 50 money to her account. Spells by Year There are different spells that we have decided you may use, regardless of whether or not you have yet learnt them in lessons. Find your student's designated year on the list, and then you may use any spells offered for that year—and any of those from the years below. So third years, for instance, can also use the spells given to first and second years.
However, although you are welcome to use these spells in Role-Play, they do not count towards your graduation and therefore should not be added to your spell vault—unless placed under a section which clearly states what they are. A breach of this rule may result in a warning raise, or we may take the privilege of having these extra spells away.
| QUOTE | 1st Year and Above:
Alohamora, Lumos, Nox, Wingardium Leviosa
Alohamora
Charm that causes a locked door to open.
Lumos
Causes a small beam of light to shine from the end of the caster's wand.
Nox
Turns off the light from a "Lumos" spell.
Wingardium Leviosa
Causes an object to levitate.
2nd Year and Above:
Expelliarmus, Aparecium, Garulitas Garris
Expelliarmus
Causes opponent's weapon to fly out of his or her hand.
Aparecium
Makes invisible ink visible.
Garulitas Garris
Babbling Curse; causes victim to babble.
3rd Year and Above:
Rictusempra, Locomotor Mortis, Impervius, Beauty Charms
Rictusempra
Causes a person to laugh uncontrollably.
Locomotor Mortis
Locks together the legs of the victim, making him unable to walk.
Impervius
Causes an object to become water repellent.
Beauty and Hair Charms
Third years and above would also be able to use various hair and beauty charms, if this was the sort of thing the character was interested in. They could be made up, or RPed without the incantation being mentioned.
4th Year and Above:
Protego, Densaugeo, Furnunculus, Locomotor..., Vespertilio Verberato, Tibituba, Tarantallegra, Tergeo
Protego
This spell creates a magical barrier that will deflect hexes thrown at the caster.
Densaugeo
Curse which causes the victim's teeth to enlarge grotesquely.
Furnunculus
Curse that causes boils to break out all over the victim.
Locomotor...
Moves an object. Typically, the spell word "Locomotor" is followed by a target word (Latin version only), which is the object to be moved.
Vespertilio Verberato
Bat-Bogey Hex; enlarges victim’s bogies, gives them wings and sets them to attack his or her face.
Tibituba
Jelly-Legs Jinx; causes target’s legs to wobble uncontrollably.
Tarantallegra
Forces victim’s legs to do a crazy dance.
Tergeo
Cleans up the target object or person.
5th Year and Above:
Accio, Relego, Reparo, Impedimenta, Aurabulam, Incendio
Accio
Summoning Charm; summons target object.
Relego
Banishing Charm; opposite of summoning charm.
Reparo
Undoes damage to an object.
Impedimenta
Stops an object or slows it down.
Aurabulam
Bubble-Head Charm; encloses head of the caster with a bubble of breathable air.
Incendio
Starts a fire. This is a good one for common room fires.
6th Year and Above:
Silencio, Evanesco, Reducto, Aguamenti, Confundus, Petrificus Totalus
Silencio
Silencing charm.
Evanesco
Vanishing spell.
Reducto
Blasts solid objects out of the caster's path.
Aguamenti
A charm that conjures a fountain or jet of clear water from the caster's wand.
Confudus
Causes confusion. A person who is affected by this Charm is said to be Confunded.
Petrificus Totalus
Turns victim’s entire body rigid.
7th Year (and Above):
Sonorus, Stupefy, Ennervate, Orchideous
Sonorus
Makes your voice really... LOUD. (Quietus would reverse the effects.)
Stupefy
Stunning spell.
Ennervate
Spell used to revive a person who has been hit by a Stunner.
Orchideous
Conjures a bouquet of flowers out of the end of a wand. |

Congratulations to our new Character of the Moment, Owen Cauldwell (aka Paige)!
As you may have noticed (for I most certainly have), Paige has been very active around EM recently. She may be relatively new, but her posts are both imaginative and of an incredible quality. We are very happy to have her around. I'm sure you'll agree that she more than deserves this award. As a reward we have given 20 house points to Hufflepuff, and added 50 money to her account. Here’s a quick and simple guide listing everything a new member needs to do upon joining. It’s quite simple: make your way through the steps and soon you’ll be well on your way to joining the many enthusiastic Role-Players of Envious Magic!
For new student characters (Original Characters)
1. Read through the Rules, Plot, and take quick glance through the FAQ’s.
2. Join with a first and last name. If you have joined already and need your name changing, click here to let us know.
3. Read or scan through this topic to make sure you get the general idea of things, and then write up and post your characters sorting in this forum.
4. Once an administrator has sorted you, you need to fill out a Ministry File, which is to be posted here.
5. You can now start Role-Playing! You do not need to wait for your ministry file to be accepted to begin role-playing around the forums, but must have been sorted into a house.
For new student characters (Canon Characters)
1. Read through the Rules, Plot, and take quick glance through the FAQ’s.
2. Join with a first and last name. If you have joined already and need your name changing, click here to let us know.
3. Read through and fill out the application form in this topic and wait for an administrator to either accept or decline your application: this may take a few days.
4. Once your application has been accepted you will need to write up a sorting for your character; this topic may be of some use with this but is not essential. Your sorting is to be posted here.
5. You can now start Role-Playing! Once you have been placed into your group you do not need to wait for your sorting to be accepted to begin role-playing around the forums.
For adults (Excluding Hogwarts Staff):
1. Read through the Rules, Plot, and take quick glance through the FAQ’s.
2. Join with a first and last name. If you have joined already and need your name changing, click here to let us know.
3. Fill out an Adult Ministry File, which is to be posted here. If you are interested in being a plot character fill out the relevant sections.
4. Wait until an administrator accepts your Ministry File and places you in the correct group, and then you can begin Role-Playing!
For adults (Hogwarts Staff):
1. Read through the Rules, Plot, and take quick glance through the FAQ’s.
2. Join with a first and last name. If you have joined already and need your name changing, click here to let us know.
3. The application form for Hogwarts Staff is here and should be posted here. The staff may take a few days to decide on an application.
4. An administrator will then place you in the correct group and ensure you have all the right permissions, and then you can begin Role-Playing!
