In every era of great peace, there are seeds for a global confilct. This era of peace is about to burst into the flames of war. The five countries of the world are all falling into the strife.
Epirus is the largest of all the countries, and the most powerful. Its great size leads it to have most of the necessities of civilazation without much trade. Its terrain is the most varied of all the world. It has rivers, valleys, plateaus, mountians, oceans, swamps, and forests. It has expanded greatly beyond its original boundries. Both peacefully, and through conquest. A traditional form of government would not work in such a diverse country, so they created something new. They have the king in control of the lands, and the laws governing the land, and they have the senate. The leaders of war, they are the ones who set the punishments for criminal offenses, control the army, and collect the taxes. Their power has been growing since its founding, and they have grown corrupt. The King is new to power, and they sense the newfound weakness in his office, a weakness that is quickly dissappearing. The new King favors the poor, and the needy. He is a hero to the people, as he seeks to give them more power in the government, and to set them at equal places with the nobles. The senate, primarily composed of nobles, is furious at him. They know, if they are going to act, they must act quickly.
Lucilli is now a desert country. In ages past, a disagreement with Epirus caused the shut down all of the rivers to the country. As the rivers dried up, and the water diverted, the countryside started to die. Slowly, the land died, leaving very few people willing to watch their beloved country dry up to dust. The majority of the people moved east, to the portion of their country all the water was going to. A few generations later, very few people lived in Lucilli, and the portion with the water broke away, and formed a new country Cistra. The Noble line died generations ago, and it lead to a series of Regants on the throne of the dying country. But recently a charismatic person rose to the top of the ladder of power, and became a dictator. Under his rule the country has started to flourish after centuries of famine. He has started up ore mines all over the country, Where they get iron, stone, and all the natural resources they need. He has caused the rebuilding of major cities around natural oasises. They resent Epirus for all it has done to them, but they are hopefull in their new leader.
Cistra is a giant archipelago. The water that was diverted from Lucilli has completely flooded the country, filling up all the lowlands, and leaving hundreds of islands everywhere. Fish is abundant here, and what land isn't covered by water is very fertile. But in all of its abundance, there is great poverty there as well. The massive influx of people from Lucilli has caused all of its cities to be huge. Its smallest city covers twice the area of any non-capital city in the world, and in that massive sprawl, there are thousands of people. The poor live in tiny rooms in a massive multifloored building. There can be up to 20 families in each of the 3 floored buildings. When disease hits, the poor die by the hundreds, while the rich just close themselves in their paradise in the center of town. They have all the luxuries of life. Servants, giant gardens, massive estates. There may be a government in Cistra, but the rich rule the country. They can do anything they want to do, whenever they want to do it.
Ionia is a small, forest covered land. They are known for their powerful fighters. They import most of the needed resources. The citizens claim that god looks down upon their country, and has given them their great wealth. They might just be right. Almost all of the gold and silver in the world comes from Ionia. Their land is rich in gems and precious metals. They have a very effective government, the people are all healthy, poverty barely exists, and the millitary is well trained. Even though the effectiveness of the government is known throughout the world, nobody knows exactly who leads them, or how it is organized.
Taurani is the smallest country. The moutainous terrain doesn't allow them to do much farming, so they must import food and some other resources from other countries. They manage to pay for it with their impressive skills in the feild of metallurgy. The best weapons and tools in the world come from them. They keep neutral in the affairs of other countries, and don't favor one or the other, so strife between two countries causes a massive influx of money to flow into their coffers. The country was formed when a part of Epirus broke off and formed into a new country. Their people are mostly pacifists, but their millitary is well armed and well trained. Its great defensive position and squads of Wyvern Knights help keep the county safe from other countries seeking to expand land, and from any criminals that decide to attack the people.
