In the Langoliers...

The sleeping passengers (and backup pilot) of the plane were "left behind" when they went through an aurora. They ended up in "dead space", where all matter from the past resides (other seats contained stuff such as braces, pace makers, dentures...) which was only like 5 minutes behind normal time.

But... the langoliers eat dead space... and were tearing up the planet. (They look like big purple balls with rotating sharp teeth). So... somehow the people escape on the plane and back through the aurora... about 5 minutes ahead in time.

They thought they were still... doomed BUT... everything tasted / sounded "fresh". --- One of the guys had them all back up against the wall as a safety measure. They saw bright colors and blurs as people started filling the airport!

A little kid saw the people just "phase in" and shouted to his parents, "Look at the new people!"
