I made a new duel map! The Goblin Mountains is a map for two players. It is preset for Man VS Shinuyama but can be played by any two nations.

The map is drawn first with the Battle for Wesnoth map editor and then Photoshop.

It is balanced I think, but not mirror perfect balanced. It has theme though, and some special provinces. Nothing too big though, just selected poptypes and two special sites provinces with tougher independents (the one in the far north east and the obelisk in the south east forest). Otherwise, the provinces should be what they look like.

The players start in the big city in the south and north of the mountains.

Ignoring size and what not - do you guys like the graphical style that the Wesnoth editor brings?

It's really easy to make maps in it, if you are a bit creative. I will make more when I feel like it, if there's demand/liking for it.

It looks good to me, and if you can easily produce maps go for it.

The graphic style is very neat, I'm not a huge fan of the borders though. Reason for that is twofold, one being color. Second is the border geometry. The straight lines and sudden cut-offs don't look very organic to me at all and kinda clash with the otherwise nice aesthetic. I have no idea how difficult this is to make though, so if it's a fuckload of work, disregard my criticism.

I do agree with you. I am a bit unhappy with the borders, logically as well as esthetically. I find it's sometimes tricky to get the balance between clear cut borders and eye pleasing borders right.. but will look at other colors and shapes for them.

Thanks for the input.

Best looking map - No
Worst looking map - Hell No

Also think the bordes are a bit off, plus I think you should think about finding something else to use as mountains, as then you can use the very mountainy looking graphics as a map terrain features, rather than provinces. (don't know the Wesnoth graphic range to offer suggestions), Or maybe use the white mountains as impassable map features (to create choke points, natural borders, impassable mountain ranges etc) and the green/brown mountains as mountain provinces. Since there can be some bad aspects to maps that are 100% provinces, and devoid of visual breaks or choke points. (Check the Damn of Dominion map for a good example of not having a 100% province map. As even ignoring the high-than-usual graphic quality of the map, I still think the layout is good with having areas that are /just/ background map.)

Yeah I've got a request. 4 and 5 player blitz maps. I love pareto but we use it too much. The other options have bad balance. I really like horizontal or vertical wrap for blitz. All way wrap is maybe too much.

And another sixlands that isn't ugly and doesn't have the stupid colour coding which totally messes some folks up when they decide they "own" their colour.

In general, good 4, 6 and 8 player maps. Those are the most popular in my mind.

Oh and better maps in those sizes for water. Maps for water nations should have 8-10 province lakes or seas not spread out. Spread out water is suicide for water nations and with the new UWGIM in CBM water nations should get some more love. But maps are a huge challenge for water.

Cool. I will make:

-something similar in Size to Pareto, but with a lake instead of an ocean, made for 4(+1) players.

-a 6 player map with east/west wrap, somewhat similar to sixlands, but I will put some kind of lake(s) so that water nations can join, but does not need to.
