@Maerlande: Giving them a Midget Masher does make a lot of sense, and could give them a broader use. Or make them tramplers, perhaps ?

That would be really wierd, they'd end up only using the midget masher on size 6 things that they can't trample.

I knew we'd be back onto Boulders at some point

Speaking of which, @ llama, have you edited the unit description to include info about the Boulder change? or something else? and if so, have you remembered to do it for Nief/Jot/Urgard Boulder units.

Speaking of construct summons, does anyone ever use lumber constructs? I guess they're a big hp wall but if you've got nature gems to spare you're probably gonna go for something else.

I use them as evocation decoys/lightning rods when I, for whatever reason, can't use sea trolls instead. Being large and beefy means they get shot full of lightning/fireballs/banefire/whatever instead of the parts of my army that are actually going to win the battle. If you put one or more of these up front but away from your main force and then drop a couple of precision debuffs (mist and storm stack, after all) then the enemy mages will waste an inordinate amount of time trying to hit your decoys instead of firing into a mass of troops where that evocation would hit something regardless of accuracy.

Here's a random thought: wouldn't it make sense for Abysia to have a national version of cross breeding? It seems odd that the warlocks whole thing is supposed to be making hybrid monsters but they can't cast the spell that actually does that.

That's an intriguing thought, but I'm not sure the existing crossbreeds would be thematic - they're mostly "mix animals and humans" whereas Abysia's shtick is "mix demons/abysians and humans". Is it possible to mod Crossbreeding to use different units, with random choices of tails, wings, fire breath, heat auras...? But then you'd need sprites for those units I suppose :/

---

I was looking at Machaka earlier, and thinking it was a real shame those Spider Warriors will never see the light of day. Cap-only and map move 1 is a killer, and stealth with a cap-only stealth leader also sucks balls.
Could a case be made to let both the unit and the commander be recruit anywhere ? Possibly bump the troops to mapmove 2 as well (spider armour's gotta be lighter than metal plate, right ?). They'd make workable stealth raiders that way.

I'm pretty sure crossbreeding is one of those unmoddable things. I think you could justify it though: the sucessful abysian hybrids show up as units in the army like misbreds or demonbreds but there's lots of other things that they don't mass produce that they might still use on the battlefield.

Lllamabeast et al.

What do you think of giving Agartha the Locus of the Seal as a national summon instead of in PD. I really like the idea of a somewhat fragile Autodarkness caster. It's really thematic and can be countered. Perhaps a battle summon? A bit easier to cast than darkness? say D3 and 3 gems?

I'm noticing Agartha is a bit challenged to cast darkness. Which seems a terrible shame since it's so thematic and fits. Agartha doesn't have to have darkness to play, but the current implementation is very fun. Just a bit too easy. It's one thing to be able to use darkness with good research. Another to get it for nothing turn 1.

How about a nation spell that casts darkness but uses 4 Earth instead of 4 Death? We could say that it envelopes the entire field in an earth dome in which no light can get in.

At 4 Earth, it might just be worth it to cast.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but the behavior of blood mages is super-annoying now that Sabbath Master/Slave have been modded to not cost slaves anymore. Since there really aren't any other options for them to cast if they don't have slaves with them*, they default to casting one of those spells, completely fatiguing them out. (As I noticed to my regret when I brought a ton of Mictlan priests along to try and fight C'tis undead hordes.)

I have to say I really prefer the old way by far. Yes, lugging around the blood slaves was a bit anal and also a pain in that same general region, but at least you could count on your guys behaving as you wanted.

* At least the single-path mages have nothing else to cast, though I've seen cross-path mages doing it too, though less frequently. Didn't really go through their spell books to see if there was litterely nothing else they could cast at that time or if they chose it over other stuff.
