I didn’t think I’d like this movie, because I hate violence and I could not care less about “computer games” now, never mind in the future.
When it started, it was soooo violent (never mind the pervo sex) that I wanted to puke. I was really distressed that Gerry would waste his time making this awful film.
However by the time you got to the second half you could see the very HUMAN man behind the “killing machine”! It began then to take on a point, and that point was that if we don’t watch ourselves, this could be the future. The kinds of people who could and would “take over” are already out there--and that is really scary! The ending was good.
On contemplation I think the whole point was that you DID feel sick from the violence and perverted sex--that that was the whole point the movie was trying to make. That we must never lose our humanity.
Anyway Gerry is a fabulous actor--and yes, I am glad I saw it. I’ll let the professional critics hash this out, as to it’s merits of film-ography. However I don’t plan to see it again, and I will not be buying the DVD. If someone gave it to me I don’t imagine I’d get it out of the house like I did that horrible SHOOTERS thing that so distressed me.
So there you go--that’s my review. It’s the best I can do. I’d rather have him make films like THE UGLY TRUTH and TIMELINE, but I guess he likes to diversify. Most actors do…….I’ll let you make your own decision as to weither you want to see it or not.
At least you can’t accuse me of being so besotted with Gerry that I take everything he makes and slobber over it. If it’s not my bag--I’ll tell you, basically this was not my bag---but I GOT it, I really did, it’s just not the kind of film I want to look at for entertainment purposes.
