I have an almost deranged, borderline heroin level of addiction with videogames. Since I first received a Gameboy with Pokemon Blue and Super Mario back when the roots of the now mighty gaming empires were still focusing on their second wave of console, which dates to around 10-11 years ago, I have been the proud owner of unbridled passion for all that provides digital entertainment at bargain prices.

Knowing this, I want to make a game. I'm no programmer, but I believe I have the concept and mechanical designing aspects of games down pretty well. So first off, I think I'll be writing about the mechanics for console style RPG's, because they're my favorite (it was either that or tactics games, so really just RPG's in general).

I also know that I am a pretentious bastard, so feel free to comment whenever you like. Although, with the state of this board, I sincerely doubt anybody's gonna read this in the first place.

For now, I'm gonna need some time to think.

That's a pretty cool idea. Maybe come up with characters before you come up with a plot? That way you can flesh out their stories and their settings so that something unexpected pops up for you when you're working on it.

Forgot to mention that I'm also the King of Procrastinators. When was my last post, like three months ago? Gah...

Anyways... since it's Summer and I'll be out of a job soon, I think I'll be puttin more effort into this.

Right now, I just wanna talk about stuff for the mechanics of role playing games in general, not like story or character kind of stuff (at least, not yet).

If you'll give me till tommorrow to gather my sh*t, I shall begin.

For the first part, I'll focus on how your characters would be formed at the beginning of the game. Just a little contents section below.

CHARACTER BUILDS
-- Are they given?
- archetypes like hero, warrior, tank, mage, healer, etc.

-- Based on player preference?
- how are they chosen?
- is balance possible with a player chosen party?

-- Are character builds elementally based?
- which elements?
- can there be multi-elementals?

-- How is the party structured?

(Part 1 of 4, got a BIGASS weapon and item section to go through after this)
