In role-playing, participants adopt characters, or parts, that have personalities, motivations, and backgrounds different from their own. Role-playing is like being in an improvisational drama or free-form theatre, in which the participants are the actors who are playing parts. A role-playing game (RPG) is a type of game where players role-play by assuming the role of a character in a fictional story. An Online Text Based Role Playing Game is a role playing activity in which online Role Players in groups of two or more engage in writing a cooperative story, each restricting themselves to the character they themselves introduced to the story. In other words, they create characters and Role Play as those characters through a story that can either be improvised or pre-outlined. Obviously, in this case, your character has been outlined by way of a ministry file and sorting. OTBRPGs cover a vast number of genres, from sci-fi dystopias to comedic affairs, and the locations, technologies, and so forth vary vastly from game to game. It is advised that players familiarise themselves as much as they are able before joining a game with the world and canon of the game world. In this case, Harry Potter is canon, so most of the members here have read the books, seen the movies, and have a basic grounding in FF. In Character (IC) is a role-playing term, referring to the world of the characters, rather than the world of the players. That is, a character talking to another character is an IC interaction, set within the IC world, while two players talking about a football game on the side is an OOC interaction. Most online role-playing communities make allowances for the intrusion of "RL" (real life) by introducing standards of communication, such as insisting that all "OOC" comments are placed inside brackets, or given some prefix, for example "[OOC: Blast, the phone's ringing again, I'll go and pull it out of the wall.]" Credit to Wikipedia where most of this information came from. I want to join Demon High, but I've never RPed before. What can I do? That's fine; Demon High is a flexible RP site and can deal with advanced role players and newbies to the style. If you'd like, take a look around the forums and see what people are doing, it should give you some sort of idea. Roleplaying is basically telling a story, but from your characters point of view. The story works out as posts are made, with each post containing what the character says, does, feels, thinks, sees etc. Sometimes people 'plot' out the story, and others they just let it unfold as they go along. The address bar says Darbyville Academy, but I've heard people referring to the site as Demon High. Darbyville Academy for the Gifted is the official name of the school, but due to the nature of the students, some pupils have nicknamed it 'Demon High'. How do I join the site? First, register with the name of your character, first and surnames please. Once you've done that, read the rules and then post a character application, or character 'bio'. This is a biography of your character, and tells other people everything from their appearance to their history. A sheet is provided to help you. Once the Admins approve it (or tell you what you need to improve) you can start roleplaying. If you want someone to roleplay with, find an open topic with less than six posts (RP etiquette) or post in the tread request; people are always looking for new roleplayers to post with. Someone insulted me! What should I do? Report it to an Administrator or Moderator! You can either report the specific post, by clicking the 'Report' button, or PM a staff member.
