Darbyville Academy
is a school unlike any other. You won't only find lessons in Math or Chemistry here; you'll also find a small community of outcasts, people born or raised with special powers or abilities, that set them apart from the rest of society. People who might be persecuted or humiliated because of their powers.

But in Darbyville Academy they can find a place of solace and learning, where they are taught to control their abilities and intergrate into society.

Of course, the school can't remain a total secret and some 'normal' people don't like the fact that thes students could be part of a 'super army' that could easily knock out any military force currently in operation. There have been attacks on the school, both physically and socially.

However, by and by, the students live happy and normal lives - as normal as they can. At Darbyville Academy it's not unlikely to encounter werewolves, wizards, angels and demons; hence the students nickname: Demon High.

It seemed Lili seemed to have the same attitude as Jin to sleep, it happened wherever she was. Mind you Jin did have the advantage of being a shape-shifter meaning she could literally pretty much sleep anywhere and in the past she had. Mind you not many would come near a three and a half foot wolf, sleeping or not and considering that was Jin's most common form it was often the form she decided to sleep in as she found it was the one the least came near her.

It seemed though that Lili at least had the intentions of getting a house and if that was what she wished for if Jin could help with her abilities or however else in some way she would be glad to. Although this was the first real time her and Lili had talked properly she liked the teacher and that was a rare thing for Jin. Normally she kept to herself and although was polite it was rare she ever really progressed relationships beyond professional ones.

It was just easier that way, she could more clearly define her role and it meant things didn't get personal. Which in truth was ideal for Jin it meant she got to keep a professional front without anyone finding out about her screwed up past. The main reason though she didn't want to be pitied. She had spent a long time building up an unquestionable reputation in her field and she wanted to be known for her accomplishments not her past. It didn't mean she was ashamed of her past just that she didn't want to be pitied for it.

“If you ever need me you know where my classroom is, its usually the best place to find me after all I'm never really away from it for long.” Jin said with a small smile. Her classroom kind of served as her 'home-base' when she was in the country she tried to visit everyday, after all if she was needed for any important business within the school she needed to know quickly. Plus truthfully she had her other ways of knowing when someone went by her room, another precautionary measure she had set up just in case.

As Lili pulled herself to her feel so did Jin, truthfully though she was happy to help Lili, however as the other teacher hugged her Jin felt herself stiffen slightly. It was no fault of the teacher Jin just wasn't use to close contact with...well anyone really any more. “Anyway you should probably get some sleep you've hand a long day and don't forget if you need anything or just want to talk you know where my room is.” She said to Lili with a smile.

Lili hadn't really thought about asking for help, she was an indecisive person at the heart of things. Which was why she tended to mosey about with the few belongings she had. And the rest were still in storage back in Seattle, Washington. She polished off the bottle and sat there, ruminating in the numbed senses, like having a dimmer switch on some things. However, she thought about the offering of help, and laughed somewhat bemused. “I'd take you up on that offer, if I could decide what sort of design I wanted for the house. As a result, I've been sleeping in odd places. Wherever my head happens to lay when I am most tired. That and I tend to sleep where I work for some reason, meaning the house has to have a studio or workshop in it.”

She couldn't help but be smiley. It was unusual for her to meet a friend. She mostly met students when she was about at night, and this was a rare occasion when she might have met someone who was appropriately aged and friendly to be more than just a colleague. This didn't mean she wouldn't maintain professional distance if she needed to, but it was nice to know someone who was more than just a book throwing regulations monkey.

“Strange that I would be one of the few teachers with an actual degree, but considering the unusual nature of the school, a lot of what they teach isn't exactly able to be tested using any old SAT or ACT scores either,” said said, in a somewhat quietly jovial tone of voice.

She moved the hair from in front of her face, and she sat there, pondering the fact that her mind was clear. “You meet me on the plot when I've decided on one, we'll make it happen. I have been wanting to build the house for a while, and I've been saving up my dollars from when I worked in show business to do it. I'll definitely be making sure it has a large work space, I love making large artwork. I did something in college that was nineteen by twenty feet.”

She remembered that piece of work. Someone said part of it looked a bit private, like someone had invaded someone's mind and dragged it's contents out. In a way they were right, in a way they were wrong. Interpretation was a huge part of art.

She unsettlingly and barely wobbly stood up, and walked towards the art room, where she knew she had a contingency of blankets and a pillow or two. You could read sleep in her expression, which before it looked like a maddeningly absent or sleep deprived face. Now it was pleasingly on the edge of going to sleep.

Lili finally yawned, and stretched her arms, “Thanks for helping me through that, we should do it again sometime. Maybe when I'm not so downtrodden.”

Without asking, Lili hugged Gin. Not sure if it would have consequences, but also not really in the mood to care either. The woman had helped her relax and numb her senses just enough to get to sleep. Which would probably happen easily once she found her way through the door to the art room.

Jin really didn't mind people making assumptions about her, it was a very common occurrence. After all she had been in the school a long time so her name was known well even if she herself wasn't and throughout all her years here she had managed to keep much about herself hidden. In truth 95% of what people thought about her was not at all true and some of the rumours she had heard about herself were just plain absurd however she supposed people had to put a person to the name.

Jin vaguely remembered a band coming to perform, she had been away when the band had actually came though. Not unusual at that time, she had spent almost a year away form the school. It was a miracle she had still had a job to come back too. In a way it was kind of sad that so many had come to the school under such negative circumstances, teachers and students alike.

Jin herself had come too the school as a run away, she had been fleeing from multiple people when she had come to the school so many years ago and she had took up the teaching position when she had come of age and realised she had no where else to go. Her home had been destroyed when she was a child, she had no family, lost touch with most of her friends and had no human qualifications, so when the magic teacher position had opened up she had applied, after all the school and life in her wolf form was all Jin had ever known.

Jin took a large gulp of her beer, thinking on her past didn't bother her as much as it use to. “I must have been away when you came here but I have a feeling the school would have found you a place degree or not. Thinking about it you're probably one of the few here with an actual qualification.” Jin said with a small laugh. Though she supposed qualifications in magic were harder to get these days. Even teaching in magic was hard to find these days.

“Don't think I'll be able to find any universities offering qualifications in magic these days thought.” Jin said trying to lighten the mood a little taking another gulp of her beer.

“If you need any help building your house I'm sure I can help. Mind you I still live in my dorm half the time and my magic room the other half.” she said with a small smile, the idea of a house had never really suited her. He current situation was piratical enough. Her old dorm was useful for keeping her clothing and such, her room was secure enough for her more pricey artefacts and when she did not feel like being cooped up inside she wasn't far from the forest. “Darbyville is better a place then most I've been too, guess that’s why I've stayed so long.” Before Darbyville Jin had never really been one to stay in one place.

Lili smiled amusedly at how she had instantly assumed she was older due to the age of many of he faculty at the school. She closed her eyes as she turned a slight blush of red at having been so far off. “Too many movies I suppose. Fantasy movies make you think that wizards and sorceresses are old farts.”

Lili thought about the situation at hand, and thought about how much fame she had left behind by leaving the scene so abruptly. She still stayed in contact with a few friends wanting to come to Darbyville and do a collaborative song or album. She wouldn't accept any offers until she finalized her plans for a house in the region.

“I was in a band that had decided to perform at the school a year or two back. At that time, it was later found that our lead singer was hypnotizing and murdering students. Afterward, I just needed somewhere far from the cameras and news media to recover from the realization that the man I had loved for his gifts had really been doing such horrible things. I also felt it was my responsibility to comfort the souls that lost their lives here at his hands,” she said. She gulped down more of the wine and tried not to drift back into slum of a mental place that she had been for a few weeks before coming to the school as a faculty member. “I think it would have been a harder sell if I hadn't have already had a degree in the arts. I'm working on a masters degree by correspondence currently.”

Unprompted, the stressed artist and musician began to hum one of her old tunes. One that she had been the lead singer on, where her own voice had shone it's potential. It had been a radio hit for about two weeks only to be eclipsed by the rapid expansion of club music on the radio. It then slid back down the charts as the Black Eyed Peas and other similar artists took dominance. She sighed, “Guess life is fleeting, but the good news is, I get a lot of mail and email asking me to collab with a lot of big names.”

She gulped down more of the alcohol as it started to ease up her demeanor, “I won't say yes to any of them until I can decide what floor plan to build my house using. I would prefer it to be here in Darbyville. It's quiet and conducive to creativity.”

It wasn't so much that Jin's partners were violent or anything like that, well not too her, they were just extraordinarily absent. Now Jin wasn't needy but her ex-fiancée had disappeared for a year once without so much as a note saying bye. Truthfully she had kind of given up on relationships for now. She would rather focus on her work and abilities. She was good at that. Not only good, she was basically a prodigy in the magic world because of her age and skill. Mind you her dedication had was a large part of that and the fact she had no other distractions from her work. It was a strange existence but it worked for her, after all without a drink or two in her she still found socialising awkward, something she had never quite grown out of. Probably part of the reason her relationships had never really worked.

She supposed that the killing people should have shocked her more but she was strangely distant from it, though Jin herself did have blood on her hands but her world was different from humans. “I've never met your male side.” Jin said slightly curious as to what it would be like, she had of course heard the teacher had both a male and female side but the female certainly seemed the more prominent of the two. She took a few gulps of her drink emptying the bottle and picking up another, clipping the lid off. “Though I don't imagine it would be anything too bad, though you might not want too remember all of it.” She knew what males could be like.

Jin could not yet feel much effect from the alcohol, a little sure but not nearly as much as she would have liked. Her mind was still trying to focus on too much as once. She wanted to only think on one thing at once.

As Lili asked if she was some astronomical age Jin gave a small laugh and grin, “No not yet. I'm only 25...I think, never really was too sure about my age.” She said taking another large gulp of drink. “But I should live till about 300...Well I think that’s what age my kind live to...” Another thing she wasn't really sure about.

“If you don't mind me asking how did you end up teaching here?” Jin finished off the rest of her drink and grabbed another bottle. Jin knew Lili used to be a big rock star, she had seen the magazines but never really knew how she had become a teacher here.

“My last boyfriend was a doosey,” She said as she began to loosen up a bit. She drank from the bottle a few large gulps and let them burn their way down. The asian woman's face seemed to show relief from some of the stress as the alcohol hit her body. “He tried to kill people, you know. Which is why I always wonder what my male Chi does when he's in control, because I know I have used my male Chi before in performance. The thought is kind of creepy when I ponder it in conjunction with the blurriness of the memories I have when my female chi is brought back into this realm.”

Lili drank another gulp, and allowed her body to bend as she sunk deeper on the wall, more of her body against the floor in a pleasant stupor. It befell her as it began to find its way into her stomach. It wouldn't really take that much effect for a little while longer, it had to get into her blood, but for now it pleasantly sat in her stomach which hadn't seen much in it for a while due to nausea.

The smile graced the delicate woman's features, and her lips seemed to cause her eyelids to close partly as well, which made her look far less beaten by what she had been dealing with the last few days. Her brain was starting to swim, and she smiled wider at the other teacher. “Is it right to assume you have some sort of astronomically impossible age? I had heard of sorcerers from my Thai Chi master, and he was about one-hundred and ten when he died.”

She drank some more and then closed her eyes as the liquids drowned her mind of the over-sensitive input she had been seeing for a while. Her eyes seemed to feel like they were filled with water, and they were rolling around in their sockets like greased bearings. It was a welcome experience considering she hardly could tell where she was with all that information dancing through her head at once. At some point she would have to get used to it, especially if it was her new normal, but she would also have to find a way to get to sleep without alcohol ever night either. That was not a solution.

Truthfully Jin gave little thought to the rather trashed room, so also paid little heed to the glass dropping. It could all be fixed and put back as new just as easily as it had been trashed. Jin couldn't count the amount of times she had fixed up rooms in the school after finding them destroyed. Luckily most of the rooms were abandoned but it was one of the reasons she was so cautious about making sure that no one could get into her room without her permission. Many of the items in there could not be replaced as easily as table and chair or even at all.

It seemed though Lili had calmed down a bit, even if she was still visibly exhausted she seemed somewhat less stressed out then when Jin had found her. Okay so maybe alcohol wasn't the best solution but at least it was one. Sometimes people just needed to escape from their own minds, Jin knew that feeling all too well but often she didn't have the luxury of talking to another person but even she had to admit it was good to talk to someone and Lili was easy to talk to a rare trait for her to find in people.

“One of my many useful tricks. Which is good considering I never really did get the hang of money.” Jin said a slight smile tugging at her own lips. The whole money thing was true though after all before the job she had never had any and after she had gotten this job and a wage she had no use for the stuff.

Jin took a good swig of the bottle in her own hand, it was not expensive stuff, hence the already mentioned screw top, but Jin did not have expensive tastes. Even now that she could afford it she simple didn't appreciate it so didn't see much point in attaining it.

“Remind me to make sure your drinks have screw lids then...Or that I might need a spare change of clothing.” Jin said her voice losing some of its normal formality as she teased Lili. “I wouldn't know about the collage though, I've never been. For that matter I don't think I've ever had a dorm mate either.” Jin said taking another glug of her beer. “I've had a few bad boyfriends though.” She said rolling her eyes, she never really had much luck men, though relationships was something that she had never really talked about to anyone.

In exhaustion Lili laughed at the comment about powers having irresponsible uses. The laughter caused her ability, which had been running on autopilot to lose traction of the beaker that had broken. It fell to the ground in pieces, since it had already shattered. Since her eyes had been closed while laughing, the beaker had literally disappeared from her ability's senses until her eyes opened to see the beaker had in fact fallen.

She was abnormally animated as she smiled at the other teacher. She got an odd feeling that they would enjoy one another. As friends, if not that then colleagues. Lili had somehow managed to avoid dealing with many of the faculty except for the nurse. And that night she had fixed her sword; she had not seen the metal-shop teacher since.

Normally she would carry the sword to honor her male Chi, but during the last shift, they had been so incoherent that even he insisted that they not carry it in fear of causing harm to people unnecessarily. It was rare that the honor driven party animal would insist on such a thing, but it happened. So, as a result, she was not wearing the ornate blade of nearly perfect balance and weight. That sword had been crafted a long while ago, with great care, and while both sides of her Chi had been far more stable then now.

Lili grabbed one of the bottles, not really being too careful which to take. The one selected turned out being a rice wine. She hadn't really had anything but 151 since being in the band. The lead singer had always wanted to sack her, and having high rated liquor around all the time, made it more likely. The liquor in the art room was probably just a bottle of cheap rum.

“Perhaps I should figure out how to make my abilities that useful. I have to buy my liquor, because I can't make anything appear out of nowhere,” she said with a smirk.

She paused a moment before deciding to uncork the bottle. Lili, was relieved to see that it was a variety with a screw top. “That could have been awkward if I had strewn rice wine all over the place, and probably on us.”

She placed the lid onto the floor, and laughed, “And probably sticky. This is like hanging out with college room mates, only I'm not trying to remember a bad boyfriend or a bad night with the band.”

Jin had some potions that might help relieve some of the pain, she also knew some spells that might help as well but she was also a little concerned about the side effects given the cause of Lili's current pain. Jin had never really given pain relief before on this kind of situation.

In regard to Lili's power, although Jin had read about similar powers once she had never actually encountered anyone with it. Though that did not surprise her all that much, there were many here that had unique powers, Jin her self was one of them, her powers worked differently from normal shape-shifters and although she looked human she was in fact an entirely unique race. The last of such. Uniqueness seemed common here though so Jin did not think on it too much but it was interesting to find out about others powers.

“Things do not often work as we understand.” Jin said in reply to Lili's comment on her powers currently going against everything she understood about them. She found that a common problem at this school but she supposed for Lili it must be even more confusing, after all she had been taught about her powers, something that very few here had.

The fact that them not knowing each other really had never particularly occurred to Jin, she did not really know anyone at this school. Of course she had students who she had taken under her wing but they were her students, they relied on her as a mentor not a friend and as for teachers Jin really kept to herself, the only person she had interacted with on a personal bases had been Maltiok but he had been away for a while now. Not that she had ever really felt 100% comfortable around him, truthfully though she had not felt completely comfortable around people since she had been a student.

“I don't think I've gotten to know many at this school, especially not on a personal bases. We are all very busy.” Jin said with a simple shrug.

Drinking however was one of the few things the teacher did indulge in, it was a way to unwind and left her thoughts drift from more professional matters. Well at least she wasn't the only one that hid alcohol in her class room. As Lili tried to stabilize her self failing to do so Jin knelt on the floor. Jin's eyes flashed silver as she muttered something under her breath, seemingly out of thin air several bottles appeared, red and white wine, plum wine, rice wine and four bottles of beer, along with some glasses to match the drinks. “Lets just say my powers have their more...irresponsible uses.” Jin said with a hint of a smile, it was a trick that her old guardian had taught her once.

“If there is nothing to your tastes I'm sure I will be able to make it.” Jin said grabbing one of the bottles of beer for herself clipping the lid off with her slightly sharpened canine, a permanent alteration of her shape-shifting side.
LiliRuiGuo Posted on May 22 2012, 09:45 PM
Lili looked to Jin, “It cuts through sedatives as well. I have never had it be like this before. It's like I can feel everything.”

Lili knew she sounded like a broken record by now with the declarations of pain, etcetera, but it was the only thing she knew how to explain. However, Jin had mentioned being unfamiliar with her particular ability, so perhaps Lili needed to introduce her to a bit of the situation.

“My power, or unique ability was trained to me by a since deceased Thai Chi master in old Hong Kong near the end of his life in the nine-teen-nineties. It was supposed to be in proportion to my own strength and control, but now I feel as though I am weak and the life force of Chi is the dominant factor. It is both a paradoxical existence for me, and a contradiction to my education on the matter.”

She breathed in, and lay down on the ground and looked towards Jin, still with a sheen of sweat and oil from her last few days of extreme discomfort. She rubbed her legs against each other, as she tried to stretch her back out. Lili arched it, and felt the weight on her chest shift as she took on a pose that helped to cause her back to crack both noisily and with an extremely deep breath.

The dark haired asian woman closed her eyes, and shuddered in pain as she let the tension in her back and shoulders go. Her eyes still remained somewhat high gloss from the crying, but the pools and streams on her face had dried. She let her body relax back to the floor, the tension having been released. She still didn't feel as though she could get to sleep, but she felt closer to it.

“I don't think we've gotten to know each other that much, Jin. I think the last time we saw each other was at the big battle, and perhaps before that an odd teachers meeting here and there. Not really anything personal. Do you enjoy drinking anything, perhaps we could enjoy something that might help me sleep? I don't drink much by way of alcohol, but it might be one of the few things that may give me the right edge to cut through to sleep. I think I hide some in the back of the chemical closet in the art room, if you want to partake.”

Lili tried to get up, but had to stabilize herself on one of the moved desks, “might be better if someone else got it.”
