To view some old fan fiction, take a look at the Sonic section of the new DWCV website. Just download the .pdf's

http://www.dwcv.org.au/sonics

Mostly there are just the Andrew Saunder's Sonics at the moment, but Michael's and mine will be up soon. The latest issues of Sonic Screwdriver 169 and 170 have a couple of my own stories in them. They are called Mascinations and Blank Page, so please read and enjoy.

That's a nice new website. I had not realised it had been launched!

The early to mid 90's was the golden age for fan fiction in Sonic IMHO (and the fanzine in general) esp with the rise of the New Adventures and no new Who on the TV at all ..

There was some incredibly decent and talented writers who contributed to the fanzine back them.

I would like to have some of them back. Most the content comes from ourselves or people outside the club we sourced. I practically resort to blackmail to get submissions, even then they need a huge amount of work and formatting before they are publishable. This issue I have an audio submission (which I actually requested as this was the only way to get the material), material that I need to format into tables, and a confusing scrap of paper with pictures to scan. I am grateful to have received all this, but really its a huge amount of work for three pages.

Today I wrote Archive 6, which is about the video releases. It took four hours to write, it does not look it. If I am honest, it will be a dull read to, which is a pity. Next weekend I will write two stories (unless some submissions come), before I start the search for images to accompany articles.

If anyone wishes to help, its more than welcome. It truly is rewarding work, but its tiring. I could not do it, I am sure, if it were not for my co-editor. He does most of the tinkering and nit-picking bits. Hopefully he will help my on my Cyberman story, he has some good ideas where to take it.

I have not seen the Sonic's from the mid-90's, though I did buy some old issues a while ago - I really should look through them. I like good fan fiction, indeed, I like writing it. Sadly though, the quality of mine does lack solely due to my other club commitments. Basically, I just churn it out to fit. I think my work is good, but I am sure it could be amazing if I had the time to plot out where my stories were going. One day.

If you have any comments regarding my stories, listed above, I would love to hear unbiased thoughts, especially constructive ones. cool.gif

What exactly does Sonic look for in Fan Fiction? I write primarily for Torchwood, but have been known to dabble with Two stories.

I will accept anything that is suitable for family readership. That means no swearing or anything obviously sexual or overly violent. That said, anything implied is acceptable. Boys are allowed to like boys, but due to obvious reasons I try to keep it toned down. I slipped in a few references in a Torchwood segment during one of my stories and received no complaints.

My guidelines? None really, other than basically the above. I will accept Torchwood stories and they can be as long as you like. Usually I keep stories limited to two pages (about three in word) each issue, but they can carry on to the next one. If you had your stories published in the Torchwood

If you wanted to write more adult stories, we have talked to printing a separate fan fiction magazine. This would include some of the stories from old Sonics, and as will will be selling it separately we can publish adult material. Until I see the work, I cannot judge, but anything submitted will be published in one form or another.

I am happy to include the link to your Torchwood site in Sonic, so you can get a little promotion that way. cool.gif
