Do the presenters of the show not have any topics to throw into the pot for discussion. After all it's quite a good show

Anything and everything really. A lot like some of the other morning shows.
But it has a nice fresh sound to it and some of the guests are quite interesting. You get weary of Pat Kenny (sounds very patronising at times) Gerry Ryan (who likes the sound of his own voice too much) or Ray Darcy (enough said there) |

I'm rarely on the road after 10am, but maybe the next time I am, I'll check it out.

Yeah, Sarah mentioned about affordable housing the other morning so I left it on instead of flicking aroung as you do... and it is a very good morning show to be fair.

Hi there
Is there anything that people would like to hear on Good Morning Dublin? I am part of the Friday show team (I'm Valerie and I do the show with Niamh). Different people do the shows every day from 10-11am from Monday to Friday. Please say what you think! All criticism/comments/suggestions welcome. Do you have a story you want to tell Dublin yourself or know someone who does? Do you like/hate/love the music/guests/news/format/etc? Would it be handy to see each day's show content posted here? We'd be very grateful for any more thoughts (and I love hearing eternaljourneyman's comments on Livedrive of a morning). Livedrive is great and so interactive! All very best and thanks Valerie we also have an email address that all shows access: goodmorningdublin[at]gmail.com (the [at] in brackets is to fool spam filters, replace with @ please) |

Hi,
I'd like to here more local politics on Good Morning Dublin especially with the general elections coming - what our local councillors, TDs and MEPs are up to? What are they promising for Dublin? Enjoy the shows - Keep the good work! Ta, PhibsboroughFan |

Yes, any chance of a text number? Sometimes I don't feel like ringing in (like, always) but I still have a valid point to make.
But overall, a good show and a really enjoyable listen, kudos to all involved. |

Put that in your pipe and smoke it everyone I think it would be a great idea to post up some of the topics discussed on the show, it could lead to some great debates on here. |

Terrific ideas! THANKS
So to try and tackle your suggestions... On this Friday's GMD, one of our guests will be Cllr Andrew Montague who is going to defend his proposal for supplying bikes for the citizen's of Dublin and get them paid for via 120 advertising hoardings from JC Decaux. There is already strong feeling around town on the topic. Each hoarding has its own planning notice. The hoardings are big. Most of them will be on the Northside. And will all the bikes end up in the canals? What do you think? Any questions for Cllr Montague? He will be on at about 10.20am this Friday 9 February. (We also have a special interview with a real live cajun from Louisiana's Tourist office who tells us why we should go visit New Orleans... ) And yes, I confess, I am a big eternaljourneyman fan! Please Valerie, call me EJ
I heard about those signs on the radio today, it looks as though the Northside will outnumber the Southside by about 4-1 for signs. And also it seems that they did not take the visually impaired into consideration when designing them either. Plus the fact that it will encourage people to cycle on the paths. They also mentioned that if they had 500 bikes, they could potentially reduce Dublin's traffic by 10% (mind you 500 nuclear warheads couldn't do that in this city But they based their findings on a similar project in Lyons, France, where they used 2000 bikes. What next....dig up the roads |

OK... EJ it is then – I feel privileged.
Thanks alot for that and I will put those very points to Cllr Montague tomorrow morning. It will be interesting to hear his responses. He didn't get much time to talk on RTE's Liveline yesterday so this should be interesting... V |

Thanks for asking EJ, hopefully we will be able to master podcasting soon and follow in Alex Gibson's clever footsteps...
Cllr Montague answered criticisms put against the JC Decaux + bike plan: He said that he was happy there was a strong debate about the issue. He also felt that the ad hoardings were a way of making money to fund the bike scheme and other initiatives like public toilets for the city centre. I put your points to him too. When asked, what about the bikes being fecked in the canal(?) and that Dublin doesn't have a good history of public amenities being respected, he said we have to start somewhere and he felt that wasn't a reason not to try it. (I am paraphrasing). He said that the council are removing 18 large advertising hoardings and this new scheme was meant to be less obtrusive. When quizzed about people with disabilities having trouble navigating around the proposed signs, he said that the locations picked for the signs would have generous access around them so they would not interfere with pedestrians (but to object to the planning notice costs 20 euros for EACH location). He pointed out that they are following in the successful schemes in Europe, and Paris are bringing in one themselves. It will be interesting to see what happens next and we will follow it. Cllr Montague says he cycles himself and feels strongly about removing traffic from the city centre and encouraging cyclists. Also, Morgan Jones who is in 'The Stuff of Myth' in the Project was also on and talked about his 60" ahem... organ! He plays a satyr/music promotor among other characters in it and the play sounds good fun. And the cajun from the US state of Louisiana Dept of Tourism explained what cajun's are (from French-Canada) and what they eat (incl alligator) and their weird 200-year-old French dialect. Please feel free to make any suggestions for stories that you feel should be covered on the show! Ideas gratefully accepted. Any opinions on HGV restrictions in the city or is that boring? V |

I do have an opinion or two about the HGV restrictions, V. I drive a 5-axle monster and a lot of my deliveries are to builder providers within this "Green Zone" (to use the American Baghdad term
But my main concern is the enforcement of this new rule. Who gets the fine if the permit has not been obtained and will PC Plod be pulling us over left right and centre, or as the press release stated, will they be checking their database for information about permits (somehow I think the former will apply Anyhoo, there you go. Like I said it's just my oppinion, I can't speak for anyone else (yet Thanks btw for the update on last weeks show V, much appreciated. EJ |
