Cheers Sons. I'll post some pics up soon. After a few games the champ is now a veteran with power sword and storm shield with a new company champ all built up.

I used to run the above model as a Champ as well as a veteran with a power fist in a squad with Furious Charge, but by the time I1 attacks happened, there was either nothing left or the fist was already dead. So two power weapons and a IC with Claw and Storm Shield was the best way to go in 5th. Will it be the same in 6th??????? laugh.gif

Well, Hello mate. Haven't seen you around for a fair bit. How's life been treating you since we spoke last?

Still the same old paints. I have bought some of the new ones, but only one or two so far. Tried highlighting with chain mail instead of grey. Looks more battle weathered, and I've started doing text on the armour as well.

Helbrecht is complete. To be honest, I'm not really happy with the miniature. The sword had broken off on the previous owner and a plastic one had been fitted and doesn't look right. And I'm not really happy with how I have painted the hilt of the sword. The lightning is pretty cool however. Probably looks better a bit further away, but you get the idea. I think I will buy the finecast version and redo him on a bigger base. Easier to paint and handle I think.

Anywho, just waiting for my Emperors Champion to arrive in the post and I will paint him up next.

yeah I can see what you mean about the sword's hilt; I'm no painting expert but it looks like too much contrast between the base and the highlight if you ask me. Did you highlight the eyes? It might just be the picture but it looks like you missed them. Besides that it looks like you've done a great job.

Oh, good spotting. I have just done the first layer of green. Totally forgot to do the next stage. Thanks for pointing that out. happy.gif

Not sure what colour to paint the hilt, that would tie it into the blade. wacko.gif

That's a tough one, I think that painting the hilt in an ivory style to match the cloth would look good but it's all down to personal preference.

I think I will let the hilt sit for now. It will give me time to mull over some ideas.

This Week:

This week has seen the completion of my second Emperors Champion. Brother Anspach of the Crusade of Wrath.

The Emperor's Champion looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see what you do with the Calgar model. I assume you're arming him with the 6th Ed "Specialist Weapon" rules in mind (seeing the Chainfist + Lightning Claw)? If that's the case, you might want to magnetise/pin them just in case it gets FAQ'd away.

Your Helbrecht is stunning - I much prefer him with a helmet. How'd you fit it on by the way - did you drill out the collar or just take off the head & the "nub" on the base of the helmet and glue it on flush?

I've been trying to convert Helbrecht into a Salamanders Captain for a while now, until I gave up and bought the Finecast version - it really is superior to the metal figure in terms of detail and so forth, and will naturally be a lot lighter (though you do need to check it's a good cast, GW appear to still be having some issues there).

Is there any chance of getting a group-shot of your Command Squad? I love looking at peoples' configurations and conversions for that unit.

Thanks for the kind words Tread.

I'll probably just break one of the arms off if it gets FAQ'd. I have the other lightning claw, so I'll just swap that in. One thing I am not sure on is whether I do the trim around Calgars head gold or silver. Probably gold. I might do a google image search and see if I can pick up any other ideas.

The Helbrecht model conversion, I just made a small hole with a hobby drill at the top of the head, then went out and got me cordless drill from the garage and drilled down deep enough, fitting the helmet in as I went.
Looking forward to seeing what you can make from the Helbrecht model. Being made of resin will allow you to get rid of those BT icons easily enough.

The EC was my second finecast model I purchased. The first was the 25 year anniversary model. Both models were almost perfect, the EC needing a couple of bubbles filled. The latest one however, the jump pack chaplain is a nightmare of misformed bits and bubbles. So they are still very much hit and miss.

I'll post up a group shot in a day or so.
