I've noticed that quite a lot of military helicopters are using the "old" M60 machine gun
still, particularly the Chinook- generally mounted on the rear ramp. I was wondering if there was any reason for this as most armies are now using the M240 machine gun
or FN MAG machine gun
as their main general machine gun.
The M60 is still useful, and the M240 link says they're replacing other guns as they wear out. Probably keeping the M60s on things less likely to see active combat until they start wearing out. By that time they'll probably have an even newer version available, so will swap the M60s for M240s, and swap more active units' M240s for the newest stuff...
Oddly enough I've seen the M60 on British Chinook's. I just find it odd because their army was never equipped with them.
